Re: The Sony news and discussion thread

More powerful hardware has really not lead to better games. If anything, judging by the bloat in AAA titles, like they're not really sure what to do with all that power. The Switch is the least powerful, yet there's games. The PS5, 6, 7, etc can have all the power it wants, but eh... games first. I...

Re: The Sony news and discussion thread

Considering how half-committed I am to the current generation of hardware, I think the next will be where I either bow out completely, or at least take a break from it. More powerful hardware has really not lead to better games. If anything, judging by the bloat in AAA titles, like they're not reall...

Also like Assange it is accused of sex crimes and leaves shit-smeared walls wherever it goes.
To be fair... that's optional DLC. You don't need to purchase that!

Re: Shmups

On balance, I'd say my favourite of the two is still Psyvariar Delta . When you hit a rhythm and you take advantage of the i-frames each time you LEVEL UPPPP and you fly straight into a burst of bullets to hit your next level and get the i-frames and LEVEL UPPPP and i-frames and LEVEL UPPPP and so ...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

Here's hoping the news of six more Sega Ages Switch releases is legitimate, you know, just incase there wasn't enough Switch games already available! Even though I got Wonderboy in Monster Land already, via the Japanese PSN, it would be good to have on the go. And judging by the screenshots (and not...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

Very interested to see what the SHMUP scene is like on there. O_O My antennae are at attention. What kind are they though? If they're your typical "space shooter" like Thunder Force, Raiden, Soldier Blade, R-Type, et al, I may partake. But if they're the bullet hell or "collect a billion tokens tha...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

I look at that pile of Switch games and think: they're all pretty great titles.

Then when you add the STG/Shmup/Shooter titles that are also available on top of that, there's no shortage of games.

My physical Switch title pile is much small, but my digital one has gotten pretty tall!

Re: Shmups

I love the smaller hitboxes! Sometimes I get far in a game because of skill, but I think the rest is just dumb luck! And yeah, I find myself dying quicker in Tatsujin than, say, DaiFukkatsu (aka Resurrection). There's definitely a difference in bullet speed/hitbox size. Modern shooters can make you ...

Re: Games Completed 2019

"Blitzball" is very much my main take away from FF-X, a game I started many years ago, got to the Blitzball bit, kinda tried to understand it, didn't understand it... somehow drifted away for FF-X, in the way you drift away from something and can't quite remember why.

Re: Shmups

Nah... definitely not bagging anyone out on here. Part of that was getting a bit caught up in the general difficulty discussion in recent articles (usually Sekiro related). Hard to get out of my head! But also its just encouraging others, and finding gateways to this genre. It can seem intimidating ...

Re: Shmups

The thing to keep in mind, in regards to difficulty, is most of these games will have varying difficulty settings. There's a very good reason the 360 ports of pretty much all the Cave releases have a Novice mode: it's almost like it was intentional , as if they wanted as many people as possible to e...

Re: Games Completed 2019

Finally finished another game! (While I dart between games, completion isn't the highest priority) I am going to bite my tongue about Anthem being a dumb/odd/vague name for a game, because I completed Muv Luv Extra (Vita)! All endings, all done. As a visual novel, it doesn't reinvent the wheel - it'...

Re: Anthem

Frankly, Jason Schreier's recent work, as well as similar stuff from other writers, has thoroughly put me off the idea of ever wanting to get in to the games industry. It sounds like absolute hell. Brilliant journalism though, of course. As a bit of a continuation on this story, Polygon did a piece...

Re: Anthem

The background story behind the game is fair more interesting than the game itself! I made assumptions, like maybe it was originally meant to be a single player experience (no true), and just because I hate EA, rightly so 99% of the time, it wasn't all their fault, as it was mostly mismanagement and...

Assuming anyone is still playing this game (I never even began), this Kotaku article at least sheds some light on what went wrong with Anthem.

Warning: long article, so maybe grab a cuppa before you start!

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Sorry to go off topic, but do you need to have watched the other Xmen films before Logan? I fancied watching it, but never saw any of the hundred million or so other ones. Not really. I mean, if Logan was the last movie you saw after consecutively watching the previous stand alone Wolverine entries...
