One game doesn't equal a great Direct.

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread
I'm completely fed up with Japan and Asia getting physical releases while we get only digital. There's no reason not to release physically in the West if a physical is already being done and the translation is finished. I swear pc gaming (Primarily steam) has done more damage to the industry than EA...

I'm honestly shocked there's still a place that rents games!

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
I'm in London (Ontario). PNP is... PNPgamesonline.com - they're based out of Winnipeg, and they've been consistently great to me. They carry a lot of really obscure stuff, and for fair prices. Their used inventory is pretty bomb too... Stock is volatile but prices are great. I didn't even know Shop...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
Was the store PNP, or VGP? Both are great, I have started going to those guys instead of Amazon, even if it means paying shipping. PNP also acts as a distributor for Limited Run, so they often have stock of stuff that's otherwise eBay-only. My local, Microplay, is also looking into an online storef...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
I know there's a lot of Chinese- and Korean-made RPGs that feature mainland China and other parts of East Asia... Koei's covered it extensively too. But those almost never get localized for the West. I bought a couple of those in Hong Kong. Sword and Fairy 6 seemed kind of low budget and rubbish bu...

Re: Games Completed 2021
I really want that Grandia collection, but the price is really high for what it is. Been waiting for a good sale, to no avail - and I'd love to have it physical, but a Limited Run release only drives the price up higher. Did any trendy Euro publishers pick that one up for physical? No, sadly, but I...

Re: Games Completed 2021
I remember adoring the battle system on Grandia II - is it still a highlight? Yes and no. The combat system is essentially the same, but how you level up is different. In Grandia 1 you level up through using the spells. In Grandia 2 you get coins in which you can spend on your spells and special mo...

6. Grandia 2.
Not as fun as the first, as it lacks the first's spirit of adventure. It's got a fairly interesting interesting story about man vs. religion and how to stand on your own. Soundtrack isn't nearly as good as the first game though.

4 & 5 - on the same day no less!
Untitled Goose Game - Fun, but overhyped.
The Liar Princess and the Blind Prince - Beautiful visuals, beautiful music, some super dodgy jumping.

Re: 481 - Xenoblade Chronicles
I was one of those that modded my Wii to break the region locking to play this game (and a few others from Europe). I also bought this day one when it came out in North America because I wanted to support JRPG releases in the West. While I generally prefer turn based RPGs, this game's battle system ...

3. Gris
Quite a stunning game visually, with a beautiful soundtrack.
The ending was a bit abrupt and I didn't see it coming, but it was definitely worth a playthrough, just to experience it.

Re: 476 - The Last of Us Part II
I hated the first game and found the ending so morally reprehensible that I had no intention of playing the second game when it was announced.
When everything leaked, I just read all the spoilers and laughed uproariously, knowing I had made the right decision.

Re: 463 - Final Fantasy VII Remake
I went in hopeful despite the warning signs (such as splitting it up into multiple games) but I gave it a chance. And boy, was I let down. I also wanted a turn based battle system, and the classic mode defaulting to easy mode implies that turn based is a dumbed down system that takes less skill - an...

Re: Games Completed 2021
Oh if you can install stuff (as in I mean if it's not a school laptop and you have access to install things) it'll definitely run it. The old Lucas stuff are usually DOS or Win95 games, so getting it from GoG or somewhere it'll run on pretty much anything. Yeah, you're probably right. I just tend n...

Re: Games Completed 2021
The telltale sam and Max games are pretty brilliant I think and channel the Lucasarts classic really well. Yeah, I would agree, and they're perfect on the Wii. Did you never play the old Lucasarts one? That was great too, played it a bit last year and it's held up just as well as the likes of Monke...

Re: Game suggestions for the podcast
I know the Shin Megami Tensei games are on the list, and you've got JRPGs on the list this year but I can't help being a bit bummed that you aren't covering SMT Nocturne for the remake this year.
