Re: First or memorable platinums / 100% achievements

I've never felt the compulsion to get platinums, occasionally I think I'll go for one just to give myself some more directed play time after the main bulk of the game is finished but always pretty much immediately peter out. Plus there is always just one stupid bullshit one that takes luck to get. I...

Re: Whatcha Been Listening To?

Death Metal names are hilarious, but that is a good EP. For whatever reason I've really clicked with death metal this year, Tomb Mold is so so good. But I've been doing a Galneryus discog run and very much enjoying the cheese.

Re: Our next podcast recording (17.7.21): 478 - Ghost of Tsushima

I'm about to get real critical about this so I should say straight up, I liked the game, but it is at best competently average. That reviewers came down so hard on Days Gone, and then turned around to praise this is frankly kind of baffling, as they suffer from the exact same problems. I think peopl...

Re: 478 - Ghost of Tsushima

I'm curious about this because I have yet to get around to playing it, does the "Kurosawa mode" actually change anything aside from becoming black and white? Because there is a lot more to Kurosawa films than "is japanese" and "in black and white".

Re: 489 - Death Stranding

This became one of my favourite games of all time. It's the one time I can confidently say that it's the perfect meld of narrative and gameplay, none of that ludonarrative dissonance here! As an aside that is a term I don't really like but does a good job at explaining how at odds those two elements...

Fairly confident that it's a knowing pastiche rather than any kind of crafty rip-off.
As am I, it wasn't supposed to be an accusation.

Re: The Sound of Play submission thread

With a silly title like "There Is No Game: Wrong Dimension," I was expecting some off the wall meta commentary and plenty of pop cultural references. What I was not expecting was the amount of cleverness, polish, and heart this game delivers. On its face, it's a light-hearted point and cl...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

Agree, so many Japanese games have really evocative titles. Like Octopath Traveler, it sounds so different and interesting compared to the rote naming conventions in much of mainstream western media. I mean what would a western company call it, The Sacred Flame? Kingdom of Darkness? Names like Fina...

Re: A Look Into The 3DS Screen Ideal

This has been a known thing for a long time. My counter point is, who cares (from a technical standpoint, it is fun to fathom why this happened)? Viewing angles are kind of pointless because you have to be looking at a 3DS straight on for the effect to work anyway, and as personal device will anyone...

Re: Videogame Deals

Not sure when this appeared, but Call of Duty: Black Ops III on PS4 is now a June PlayStation Plus freebie. It wasn’t there when I scooped up the rest at the start of the month, so maybe others missed it too. The perfect price for me to play a CoD game! It was actually announced at E3 as a surprise...

Re: Whatcha Been Watching?

We are stuck in a bit of a TV rut at the moment and can't find anything to watch. We must have watched the first two or three episodes of a dozen series over the last few weeks, but either I'm not on board, or my girlfriend isn't enjoying it, or we both don't like it. Loads of stuff, Westworld, Sne...

Re: Rise of the Far-Right Worldwide

He certainly doesn't know what the hell he's talking about with regards to the Australian gay marriage plebiscite. A big part of the problem was this was a "solution" put forward by a government who ran on a platform of financial responsibility, getting rid of crippling debt, reducing wast...

Re: Videogame Criticism

I'm echoing KSub for some elaboration and specific examples because I just don't see it otherwise. Just to clarify, you "don't see" the influence of The Last of Us in two films that you've never watched? Um, okay. Fair enough. Let me clarify a bit then. I was more referring to how TLoU's ...

Re: Videogame Criticism

Feels like you're giving credit to Last of Us for everything. That story has been told a thousand times before in zombie/zombie-related media, does The Girl With All the Gifts (I haven't actually seen this movie) actually owe anything to TLoU or just the general scope of zombie media since Dawn of t...

Re: Videogame Criticism

But as you said, emotions are running high and perhaps now is when publications like gamesTM feel that they need to take a stand on matters. It wasn't always so. For example, I don't seem to remember their review of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes commenting on that utterly reprehensible moment o...

Re: Games Collection: To sell or not to sell

Generally speaking, from my experience, people always think that their game collections are worth more than they actually are, or are offered. When they hear/see the figure they decide to keep them, for multiply reasons. This is the most important thing. Everybody overvalues what they've got. I use...

Re: Games Collection: To sell or not to sell

I'd say hold on to them, unless they're cluttering up the place and taking up a ton of space that you need, or you need a quick injection of emergency cash and you need to sell. You could even minimise the space issue by getting one of those big disc wallets (my brother and I in the days of the disc...
