Re: Our next podcast recording (23.2.20) - 407: Super Mario RPG (: Legend of the Seven Stars)

Super Mario RPG, today, gets by on charm. The mechanics work fine and the graphics still look appealing, though a bit dated. But it's just so sunny and happy that it doesn't matter if it's not the deepest JRPG out there or the most exciting Mario game. It's a celebration of Mario and his, at the tim...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Finished Castlevania: Circle of the Moon on Game Boy Advance, which only took me almost 20 years! Did you play this on original hardware? It was the first game I bought with my GBA back on release and I loved it, but I was always huddled under a lamp because of the lighting. I didn't mind how dark ...

Re: Comic Book Chatter

I re-sub to Comixology every now and then, whenever I'm getting a bit burnt out on my Marvel Unlimited and need something different. I've been using this month's sub to read through Wildstorm and Authority, which I loved. Also the semi-recent Bloodshot series, which started out great and then went d...

Re: Whatcha Been Watching?

Sonic the Hedgehog was mostly fine. I felt like it was very much a kid's film with Jim Carrey playing it up for the adults, especially us that miss his 90s persona. And, I think, as a kid's film, it works. If I had seen this movie when I was a kid and Sonic was too cool for school, I would have love...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I'm playing Kingdom Hearts II right now and certainly isn't grabbing me. Honestly, I'm a bit confused by it's lack of pull, considering how much I loved the first game. But, I suppose, there's probably a difference between playing these games at sixteen verses playing them at thirty-three.

Re: Comic Book Chatter

I read the first two TPBs of Saga over the last couple of days. Really like it so far. Saga stays great all the way through, thought it's been on hiatus since volume nine. But, the plan is to go past a hundred issues, last time I checked. I think Vaughan was going back and forth between that and Pa...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Doom 2016 and Wolfenstein The New (the first 'new' one anyway!) Yeah just don't like the arcadey shoot shoot shoot keep moving keep moving shoot shoot shoot-ness of Doom. Prefer something a little slower paced with a story. I am a bit surprised you're having the same experience with both those game...

I can't settle on much lately. Started and abandoned Wolfenstein, Doom, Prey, Saints Row IV...

Managed to finish Horizon Zero Dawn and now playing Mafia III. I was a big fan of the first two games, and know this got mixed reviews, but I'm enjoying it so far.
Which Doom and Wolf?

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Finished Metal Gear Solid 3 put me in the mood to tackle more unfinished PS2 business. So, I've started Kingdom Hearts II. Past that awful tutorial prologue and now into the game proper. I'm not shy about how many memories this game is bring back.

Re: Games Completed 2020

I finished Metal Gear Solid 3 last night. I had the original PS2 copy back in 2007 but for some reason or another, I stopped at the halfway point, right after the fight with the End and the ladder climb. The time between attempts helped me not mind at all the replaying the first half of the game and...

I can't even finish a course these days, I've gotten so bad. Honestly, I have to not stream it to get anything close to my score.

Re: Whatcha Been Watching?

I watched The Two Popes soon after The Irishman. It was interesting comparing the two different approaches to 'de-aeging'. The former opts for the tried and tested method of having a younger actor play the part. Unsurprisingly, it worked. Like it's been working for the past 100 years. It seems to w...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Wolfenstein: The New Order Got it in a Steam sale with The Old Blood and I'm looking forward to spending more time with these games. I still need to play The Old Blood! It looks like a whole lot of fun. I just started Metal Gear Solid 3 last night. I originally played the game right before college ...

Re: Games Completed 2020

Beat Axiom Verge last night. Current impressions...it's fine. I don't know why I didn't get on with it, but the backtracking wasn't enjoyable. There were times I'd look at the map, realize I had to cross the whole thing and sigh. It's an impressive achievement of a game, but I was hoping to really g...

Re: Comic Book Chatter

Agreed on all the Death and Gaiman Sandman asides. Overture actually got me chocked up a bit when it first came out.
And I've never read Lucifer but it's been on my list for decades (frick, that's accurate).

Re: Comic Book Chatter

Still re-reading Sandman, and just finished The Kindly Ones for the first time in over 20 years. I never got on with that book the first time I read it, but I really liked it this time round. My wife got me the full trade set for our anniversary and it will be the first time I've reread the series ...
