Re: Our next podcast recording (7.6.20) - 422: Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon/Ritual of the Night

Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon As someone who vastly prefers the Classic-Vanias to the later “Igavanias”, I’m happy that the Bloodstained project also yielded a throwback to this era. And for the most part, Curse of The Moon is an enjoyable riff on Draculas Curse, and does more to tweak the old fo...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I'm about two hours in to Bayonetta and really enjoying it, but is it just me or is the story utterly incomprehensible? I really have no clue what's going on, just enjoying the spectacle! You're not alone there. I have no problem with an absurd, overblown scenario of an amnesiac witch fighting ange...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Been playing that Golf Story on the Switch At first I was extremely intimidated by the mechanics, but feel like I've got a good handle on them now. My biggest limitation is the absence of the metric system. I'm finding that I have some trouble being motivated to play for any extended length of time,...

Re: Games Completed 2020

Mid May: Mega Man X4, switch Mega Man/ Zero playthroughs This is the first time I’ve played this in ages ever since playing it on PC, and I think it still holds up; The score is great, animations pop, and the levels are fine if a bit anemic in collectibles compared to its predecessor, but I guess t...

Re: Games Completed 2020

May 6th: Ori and the Blind Forest definitive edition, Switch This was a curious experience. I expected to get a pretty, nonlinear metroidvania with a minimalist story, but the game turned out to be something slightly else. I sadly can’t say I adore it as much as the general consensus, due to a slew...

Re: All things Mega Man

Which of the Gameboy MMs are worth a look? I've seen the love for IV here and might give that a go at some later point. If there's one thing which I've learned from this coronavirus mess, it's that currently short, replayable games are suiting me far better than the chunksters. IV and V are probabl...

Re: The videogame music thread (also Sound of Play submissions)

Wing Ding, from Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze, Composed by David Wise Having not cared that much for the original DKC trilogy, I also skipped the David Wise adoration that seems to color any discussion of video gaming music. But having fallen head over heels in love with Tropical Freeze, I can only ...

Re: Games Completed 2020

April 2020: Mega Man X3, PS1 and Switch After playing through my old PS1 port of the game (So much better music), I went through an "alternate" playthrough on the Legacy Collection for good measure, in order to see all the bosses. I'd forgotten how much the last stages change depending on your actio...

Re: Rolling Stone's Top 40 Sci-Fi Movies of the 21st Century

Its strange how different people will classify genre; to me, I'd never consider Reign of Fire Sci-fi, nor Guardians of the Galaxy or even Star Wars. I've seen 25 of these, but in terms of "Harder" sci-fi I'm surprised Annihilation isn't on here. I'd also personally have included Upgrade and DREDD, a...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

SotN is the PS1 classic version with different voice acting but RoB is the straight up PCE version just with an English title screen and different voice acting with english subtitles over the intro as well as english instead of the Japanese voices in the cut scenes. Does the intro still have a Germ...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

In the mean time, I've been playing Castlevania: Rondo of Blood. Now this is good. It's a great mix of classic adventure gameplay with branching paths, hidden boss's and really compelling level design and art. Despite the nasty new title screen and some odd music sounds, it's a pretty nice version ...

Re: Gaming firsts /most influential games

As mentioned above my first racing game was Formula 1 for the gameboy, but the first Racing game that I got into was WIPEOUT 2097 - courtesy of its presence on a certain PS1 Demo Disc (which has become a sort of touchstone for several of my gaming experiences). I played through that one Demo track c...

Re: Game suggestions for the podcast

Both versions are on the list. Gentle reminder that resubmitting a game doesn’t increase the chances of a podcast happening. If a game is on the list then it’s on the list, and gets considered the same as everything else (2250+ titles)! i.e. There’s no need to suggest games that have already been s...

Re: Game suggestions for the podcast

It got mentioned above, but I'd like to formally suggest Crash Team Racing -the shiny new remake is winding down now, and it could be an interesting counterpoint to your Mario Kart series.

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I've been playing Castlevania: Harmony of Dissidence on my trusty GBA-SP ...h it. Anyone else played this game ?? I have; I mostly remember it for the gimmick itself, and having a really lame true final battle. I don't remember it being much worse than other handheld Igavanias, but then a lot of th...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Plus, it pushes the classic series forward in a few ways - its the origin of the shop, theres honest to god cut scenes, and I looooooove what they did with the stage select screens. Tiny things, but they make the game stand out to me. I also have a good deal of Nostalgia for mega man II on the game...

Oof, this is a tough one. Going off the top 50 games list I made earlier, I guess mine would have to be... Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I started playing Mega Man 3 and 4. On Gameboy. Through 3DS virtual console. And you know what? I think I actually *prefer* them to the NES versions. Which sounds really weird on paper, but something about the monochrome colour scheme just works better for the graphics, IMHO. I am really not a fun ...

If they made a HD remaster of the original with a completely overhauled translation and skippable summon sequences I'd be more than happy.

Keep the LEGO men, they're great.

Re: Final Fantasy VII Remake

What about people coming to the game for the first time though? Like, I have a friend who never played the original, but held out for Remake in order to experience a classic story in a modernized form. He was really enjoying the game until the end, which he felt was frustrating, jarring and alienat...
