Re: Our next podcast recording: The Last of Us
It depends on the context and if the fiction is striving for realism. I find all "zombie" fiction to be ridiculous, but that doesn't stop me enjoying Plants vs Zombies or Dead Rising. In the case of TLOU I have less issue with the 'infected' more with the horrific and dark places they took...

Our next podcast recording: The Last of Us
Here's my two cents... Early today I managed to finish The Last of Us for the first time, after two previous aborted attempts. In fact, this play thorough almost never happened after the prologue left me in floods of tears and seriously angry at the gratuitous violence and graphic nature of the clim...

Re: Our next podcast recording: Banjo-Kazooie (& Tooie)
1998 was a big year for me: -- I passed the 'quarter century' -- I had bought my first flat after moving to Wiltshire from Kent, -- Arsenal won a first domestic double under Monsieur Wenger, and -- the Bear and Bird entered my life. Banjo-Kazooie remains one of my favourite video games of all time. ...

Sadly missed the frolics due to an overrunning kids party earlier today. Will keep and eye out for the next one.

Re: Steam Box
That is the million dollar question. Like you I remain very sceptical of success outside of gaming enthusiast having a second box.delb2k wrote: So outside of the people that want a front room steam player is the market there?

Re: No more used game market
It's more about choice.
Even after all this time 70% of all albums are still bought on physical media. Physical media is still 75% of all entertainment media spending.

Re: Steam Box
Worth and cash are two very different things. Twitter is estimated to be worth $6bn but has had to make many investor cash calls and still makes small profits. Valve would have to hand over a lot of their business to raise the capital needed for hardware manufacturing in the volumes needed for a maj...

Sounds good to me Count. I think Phil Harrison's statements this week allude to the same model.
@Tony: Answer 2. Valve don't have anywhere near the capital to do anything else.

@delb2k I think that's why Microsoft have been trailing their $99 Xbox 360 on a 12 month contract in the US.

Re: Steam Box
Yes, and that brand has done all right. Plus, it's smaller. I want one, though I'd prefer it if it was modular (i.e. super-easily upgradable - eg. slide out the old gfx card, slide in a new one that just clips in). That's unlikely to happen. The PS Orbis dev kits and this Piston thing are all using...

Some huge fans of Bizarre Creations on the team and I'll continue to keep beating the drum for getting a racing game on the show. The final night of Xbox Xbox Live. Playing PGR2 one last time online. A very special night for me. MSR/PGR games were the most innovative driving games of the last 20 ye...

Re: So, the ending to Mass Effect then... (Massive spoilers)
I played ME3 over the launch weekend and completed it at 0300 on the Monday before the hullabaloo. Having invested over 100s hours, twice - on different characters, I reach the end and sat there in a dazed and tired state (it was 0300am). Unable to move for 20 minutes. Trying to comprehend the thoro...

I was a huge fan of the original - it was one of my games of that year. The sequel is much more challenging but offers the same excellent racing model. Sumo Digital know how to make an excellent arcade racer!

Re: Nintendo Wii U
Basically anything you can do on a DS or 3DS works on the Wii U. It is essentially the same use case.
In fact Wii U goes one step further in that it can consolidate down to one screen either on the GamePad or TV/GamePad with the Pro Controller.

I can answer that. Funky Barn is a 3DS port on the Wii U and the tablet acts like a touch pad to move stuff around on the TV.

Re: The state of Xbox live
I rather gratified to see folk expressing the same opinions on the XBL service that I've been complaining about for the past couple of years. What started out as a means to aid discovery within the XBL Marketplace became a "revenue opportunity" that was forced on consumers at the expense o...
