advice for a trip to Portugal / Spain / Czech Rep.

greetings, all I'm heading to Europe in a few months — Porto, Barcelona and Prague. I’m looking for any recommendations for cool places to drink, see good live music and meet cool people. local arcades may be cool to visit too. I’m not really interested in the typical Trip Advisor checklists. anyone...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I... don't like Metroid Prime.
to be fair, playing it on a smaller Switch Lite screen probably isn't doing it any favors, but after beating Dread twice (my first full Metroid game), I think I prefer this series in only two dimensions. :|

Re: 573: Death's Door

especially for a game I was so excited for pre-release, I'm sorry to say I never made it to the end of Death's Door. the tone and presentation were interesting and the writing was pretty good, but the overall pace was just too slow for my tastes. that includes traversal, combat and the frequency wit...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

fired up Sayonara Wild Hearts after having it on my radar since its release. I honestly don't remember the last time a game made me smile like this. the dodging can be a bit loosey-goosey for my tastes at times, but the core gameplay combined with the amazing audio/visual aesthetic create a package ...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

thanks to a post on another forum about light gun games/rail shooters, I was introduced to Assault ChaingunS KM . and I'm so glad I was, cuz I likely never would've heard of it otherwise. "homage" is too weak of a word; this basically IS the awesome Gunblade NY , albeit with lower producti...

Re: Sifu

You might throw a few jabs at the closest guy, then push that enemy into a couple of others, follow up with a sweep to put another on the ground, quickly kick a bucket at the fella who's coming at you from the side, then grab his pole as he falls... I read a few reviews that turned me off this game...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I've been playing a couple of hours of Ketsui pretty much every day for the last month and developed a ganglion cyst on my left wrist which GP said may be down to excessive arcade stick use. I wish I'd started playing these games when I was 20 instead of 38. hell yeah. I've stopped being lazy and h...

Re: 505: Hollow Knight

I purchased Hollow Knight right around the beginning of the lockdown period, rightly anticipating having plenty of time to explore its vast world. Though I was a relative newcomer to metroidvanias, I was excited to expand my horizons and give this one a try, especially after reading so many great th...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

after discovering that I don't actually hate metroidvanias, I've since started Record of Lodoss War: Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth . the Ikaruga-like interchangable fire/wind system really caught me by surprise and should be quite fun once I've got the technique down. while the 2D animation is fantast...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

at long last I'm playing The Pathless , which has been at the top of my most-anticipated games list for a while. just needed a nice, deep digital discount, which the Black Friday sale delivered. I'm having a good time with it. simply moving around the world as the Hunter is fun and will likely be ev...

Re: Shmups

it's now possible to buy individual titles from Capcom's Arcade Stadium for 1.99 USD each. which means I'll be playing Progear at long last in the very near future 8-) (I searched for "Capcom Arcade Stadium" directly on the Playstation Store and got nothing; I had to find it via a general ...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I jumped head first into Metroid Dread despite misgivings the backtrack-heavy gameplay wouldn't appeal to me. after a few hours in, I realized my recent playthrough of Strider of PS4 prepared me just fine for this. I'm having fun with it. although for a game focused on creating a tense, scary enviro...

Re: The arcade cabinet thread

I'll likely be going the simpler (and undoubtedly pricier) route of just buying a candy cabinet outright, but there's still useful info here.

of course... someone could save me a lot of time, money and space and put out an Neo Geo MVSX-type tabletop unit crammed with shoot-em-ups...

The arcade cabinet thread

I bought a couple of PCBs a few years back in anticipation of one day getting a Japanese 'candy cab' of my very own. I haven't yet, but it only recently occurred to me that when the day comes, I wouldn't know what to check for before making a purchase. other than screen burn-in, are there any red fl...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I started Hollow Knight again after giving up on it when I played it a couple of years ago with some additional tips from friends as to what to do. ... I just don't enjoy dying at the boss and then having to go to the last save point such as a bonfire in the Souls games or a bench with Hollow Knigh...

Re: What's Out This Week?

happy to hear WarioWare can be expected to focus on the single-player experience, as I also don't intend to get much play in a group setting (especially with a Switch Lite!). I haven't played a game in the series since the original on the GBA, so I'm really looking forward to diving back into the cr...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I recently revisited Enter the Gungeon after several years of it gathering dust and I've finally understood why I didn't/don't care for it: it's too slow. back then, I just figured rougelikes weren't for me, but after subsequently sinking 'nuff hours into Dead Cells and ScourgeBringer (which deserve...
