Re: Game suggestions for the podcast

It would be interesting if there were to be such an episode if each member of the panel used their country as their starting position. Some are much harder to play than others.

Re: Game suggestions for the podcast

Although I can't imagine these would be too popular with the team I wonder if anyone has nominated any of the total war games? I both loved and hated Medieval Total War 2 - sunk what felt like weeks into it. Starting over more times than I care to admit. When I finally beat the preset conditions I u...

Re: Game suggestions for the podcast

Well I guess on average it’s 330+ a year, but that has certainly decreased over time as most of the ‘classics’ and cult curios have already been added. That said, there are interesting new games released almost on a daily basis, so that figure actually tracks. You're going to need a succession plan...

Re: Game suggestions for the podcast

There are 2000 games on the list. We do 50 games a year. Just wondering on average how many games get added to the list per year? If there's already 2000 on the list and as 50 will be struck from that list over the course of the year I wonder if the number will be any lower than 2000 by the Decembe...

Ok When I get a few minutes spare to compose my thoughts properly I will delve right in. :)

Re: Merchandise poll

No worries - thank you. I've really enjoyed it and just wish I'd known about it sooner so I could have contributed a little to the discussions referenced in episodes that covered games I knew well.

Re: Game suggestions for the podcast

I think I may have already nominated the Myth series (The Fallen Lords and Soulblighter more than the third game) of games via Twitter but if I didn't and only thought I did then I'll throw them in here instead. Not sure how enthused the team would be to play a fairly ancient RTS but I know I loved ...

Re: Merchandise poll

I'd buy a water bottle and cap for sure. I don't drink coffee so that options a no go for me and the last thing i need is more things that take up space in my pockets so no thanks to the Key rings. Really happy to help out and send a few extra $ (on top of the monthly commitment) over the vast dista...

Yeah that just about sums it up for me too.

My younger brother saw Solo today and said he enjoyed it but that wasn't too keen on some of the stuff towards the end.

Re: Star Wars

Anyone here seen Solo yet? Overall reception seems to be fairly lukewarm... I'm assuming there's an intended pun in the lukewarm? No I haven't seen it and I fear my days of being a Star Wars fan have gone the way of the Rancor. Couldn't stand EP 1, 2, 7 + 8. Didn't mind Rogue One but still could ha...

Re: Open World Games vs Strong Narrative threads

I also think that the ‘vs’ in the thread title shouldn’t be seen as a dividing line either. The whole thing is a spectrum. Absolutely. One of the many beauties of this incredible medium is that it can do so many things in so many different ways. I want to soak up all these experiences and am happy ...

Re: Open World Games vs Strong Narrative threads

My most radical opinion is that the primary strength of video games is not that of a medium for an author to deliver their story to an audience with, but for the audience to create their own stories through interaction. The end goal, then, would be open world, system based games, with very minimal ...

Re: Open World Games vs Strong Narrative threads

It's the Mass Effect thing isn't it, Shepherd needs to urgently save the world but will happily spend weeks cruising round the galaxy running errands for people first. It's an unsolvable problem I think, but not one that spoils games for me. I suppose a solution on the players part would be to comp...

Re: Open World Games vs Strong Narrative threads

I think that actually is the rationale for Geralt taking on jobs - that he is a witcher and he can decide who he helps etc. I don't know that it is expressly stated in the games but it was always my impression. I may be misremembering, but if you go overland to Novigrad isn't there a high toll on t...

Re: The "Introduce yourself" thread

Hi All, Should probably have made this my first post on the site but it's just too late for that. I'm a near 40 year old Australian just starting to get back into gaming after a fairly long break. Don't get to play every game and tend to pick and choose pretty carefully so this site and it's convers...

Re: Open World Games vs Strong Narrative threads

There is a sliding scale of Freedom and Structure. You can only have so much of one before the other starts to suffer. From what I remember, Red Dead Redemption is one that does it the best. And that's because the protagonist himself is often in the dark, unsure exactly where to go next and how to ...

Open World Games vs Strong Narrative threads

Sorry my first post is going to be a bit of a long one. Having listened to a number of the Podcasts recently I was delighted to hear some in depth discussion not just of the games in question but also some issues facing the studios when they set about to make any game that could be tagged as open wo...
