Re: Our next console special podcast recording (TBC.5.23) - PlayStation Vita

I hope that the next gangbusters-selling handheld console throws me a bone and puts the control sticks where my thumbs can reach them easiest. Get the Hori Split-Pad Pro for the Switch. Don't even need the Split Pad Pro honestly, I find this doo hickey here helps A LOT. Especially if you mod the Jo...

I wasn't really a fan until Near Automata.

Re: Our next console special podcast recording (TBC.5.23) - PlayStation Vita

I have never owned a Vita, and I can't say I've ever even physically held one. So my commentary here will be that of a gaming enthusiast from the outside, looking in. I have a general rule when it comes to console purchases - if I can't find 5 games I want to own for a console, I skip it. And that w...

Re: Resident Evil 4 (2023)

The Wii controls do make it easier, but it made the game beatable for me. The reticule on the GC version (the only one I had played) always felt too slow, like I could not control the game fast enough to keep up with the threats on screen. I'm a big advocate for games having difficulty options, as I...

Re: Resident Evil 4 (2023)

Is it petty to dislike this game on the principle they skipped out on a Code Veronica remake? :P I like RE4 well enough, but I have ZERO enthusiasm for this game. The original still exists, and still holds up pretty well... And this remake doesn't seem to really be changing things up at all. It's no...

Re: What's Out This Week?

I'm really concerned about the rate Supermassive is releasing their horror games. The Dark Pictures series was steadily improving in quality before it took a nosedive with the 4th one (The Devil In Me). The Quarry, released only a few months earlier, was a far more polished and better developed game...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Started up Live-A-Live. Finished the Prehistory chapter and started the Distant Future chapter. Game's not really grabbing me so far, but I'll give it time to get to its point. Overall, it feels really well made, but also kinda slow.

Re: Games Completed 2023

#5 - Scars Above (2023, PS5) Oh my GODS, what a freaking fantastic game this was!!! Let's start with the Metacritic score, because some of you may look it up after this. It has a 65. That score is objectively wrong. IGN gave it a 5/10, and another outlet scored it a 1/5. Both of these scores are ut...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I've been playing Scars Above , which just released on Feb 28. I was kind of expecting to be disappointed, given the middling reviews... But guys, barring a failure to stick the landing, this is a strong contender for my GOTY. Like my previous GOTY, The Chant, this game is just... A game. No DLC, no...

Re: What's Out This Week?

There seems to be a lot of misinformation surrounding Metroid Prime Remastered, but here's what I think is happening based on my education in supply chain management: Quite simply, the game was shadow dropped. Having a mere 2 week turnaround between production and delivery to retail is absolutely in...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I gave the Sea of Stars demo a whirl. Great music, amazing visuals, interesting gameplay mechanics that seem fun to play. Dialogue is absolutely awful. It's ostensibly the worst kind of American "dork" humour that western indie games cannot seem to purge. It genuinely feels like it was wri...

#4 - Guardian Heroes (1996, 360 - via XB1) Treasure games are very hit and miss for me. I loved Gunstar Heroes, but that was also the first Treasure game I played, back when it launched on the PS3. Since then, I've really enjoyed the likes of Astro Boy: The Omega Factor and Dynamite Headdy, but bou...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Played a bunch of random stuff this weekend, which is nice, because I have a bunch of new games for the sell pile now. :P Blinx the Time Sweeper - Most certainly from the era of, "wacky =innovative", I found this game to be way too mechanically dense for what should be a 3D platformer. Not...

#3 - Alligator Hunt (1994, Arcade - via Evercade's Gaelco Arcade 1) Is Wild Guns too hard for you? Want something easier to hone your crosshair shooter skills? Do you enjoy horribly translated English? Give Alligator Hunt a go. It lasts about an hour or so, and for its time, this is a visually impr...

Re: Hi-Fi Rush

It's... Fine. I don't really see how this game blew up as it did. It's a well-made rhythm action game, but the style isn't for me and I find the music ranges from uninteresting to grating - but that's purely personal preference. I think fans of rock will get on with it. I'm much more fond of electro...

So I picked up Darius Burst Another Chronicle EX+ for $10 physical today. What's the difference between that and Chronicle Saviours? I can't find a clear answer online.

Re: Shmups

I've noticed a lot of 80s and 90s SHMUPs have theming with lots of alien gore and fleshy biomechanical masses... Is there any particular cultural touchstone in Japan that influenced this?
