Re: Exclusive monthly podcast for September 2021
I'm a little late but just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the Bubble Bobble episode. When I looked at the list for this volume I anticipate that the TLOU2 pod would be my favourite episode (and it was great) but the Bubble Bobble episode was pure joy and wonder. From the opening sentences you coul...

Re: July 2021
Hope you get well soon Alex!
Glad to hear the Leon sauces really are from the UK, I had told my old man about them and he hasn't quite been the same since HP sauce production moved to the Netherlands and I'm not sure he could take another sauce related blow.

Re: July 2021
Perhaps like a much hyped game, the eventual arrival of the rice cooker was a bit of a let down, no doubt I was not sensible in expecting it's arrival to have a similar level of life changing impact to the Second Coming, but sadly I am left feeling a little disappointed. That said, I am well and tru...

Re: 484 - Bubble Bobble series
I remember the Bubble Bobble music singing out across the arcade and I sank quite a few coins into it as youth (without ever really getting very good at it I must admit). It's perhaps difficult to choose a favourite arcade game of all time, but Bubble Bobble would be in the mix. And now I've just pa...

Re: The Last of Us Part II
The only thing that really bugged me about the conversation was the "in 2021" or "in this year" sort of comments. It's not like Druckmann et al knew there would be a global pandemic in play around the time of release, when they started pre-prep on the title literally years earli...

Re: The Last of Us Part II
I also appreciated Joel picking the darker path at the end of TLOU1. I still find it interesting that people see either of his options as good/bad or even lighter/darker. For me both his options are truly awful. In different ways, one personal, one grand, but both truly awful. In a slightly differe...

Re: 476 - The Last of Us Part II
I understand that Naughty Dog were trying to tell a grim story, but they succeeded too well and created something so totally miserable it’s difficult to want to continue at times. I would counter that the game isn't entirely miserable. When I played I - had a snowball fight with children - leapt in...

Re: April 2021
I don't specifically remember all the things that were talked about either, but I remember thinking at one point that this is why I like the video games podcasts that I choose listen to. That the sort of people who talk about video games thoughtfully tend to do the same on other subjects too (whethe...

Re: March 2021
I am a little bit sad to hear that Sound of Play is having a nap, though truth be told I have an enormous backlog of them and I think I have been getting further behind rather than catching up. I can only assume that after hearing the "Ewoks" song it was decided that perfection had been re...

The internal Microsoft review of the game that seems to have emerged in the Epic/Apple trial is an interesting read.

Re: 476 - The Last of Us Part II
A bit of a tangent but your post got me thinking re the violence: what surprised me when I first dipped my toes in the fandom waters was how squeamish many players were about the explicit love scene between Owen and Abby. This is a game that involves at least two scenes of torturing wounded and hel...

Re: 476 - The Last of Us Part II
A lot of the public discourse on this game has the game being "about" violence (and there is certainly no shortage of violence in the game) but for me the story is really about the things behind the violence, in some cases structural and societal (such as many of the notes backgrounding th...
