Re: 650: Baldur's Gate III

This game is an immaculate take on the feeling of playing in a DnD campaign, in all the best and worst ways. To start, not the game's fault but I wish I didn't go into it with the idea the whole thing was full of absolute freedom. Because it isn't. There's a lot of ways you can tackle situations, su...

Re: 603: Hi-Fi Rush

Things like Hi-Fi Rush are a rare present. Rarely do we ever Bayonetta Baby Driver shadowdropped into immediate acclaim. This game makes me sad it was buried in the dogpile of titles that came out in 2023. I love the presentation, especially how it transitions from 2D to 3D in cutscenes flawlessly. ...

Re: 624: Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door

Even General White can't stop this from being one of the best games ever made. It's annoying constantly hearing about how Paper Mario lost its magic after this game, but TTYD makes a good case for it. Nintendo just went ahead with a pretty alright little charming game on the N64 and made Mario a har...

Re: 631: Power Stone

I would actually have a heart attack if a third game was ever announced, but Capcom would never so I'm glad to be guaranteed such a long fulfilling life. A fun little party fighter from the times where you didn't think too hard about how half the cast was packed with borderline-uncomfortable stereot...

Re: 622: Elden Ring

Elden Ring is one of the few games that doesn't embarrass itself with the open-world moniker. So much so that I ended up starting a second playthrough in the middle of my first. The strongest statement to that is how there's an entire second map of content underneath the first that's entirely option...

Re: 604: Katamari Damacy series

A bit of a shame to see how hard they cashed in after the first two because Kamatari Damacy is basically one of the most genius ideas for a game ever and We Love Katamari is one of most genius concepts for a sequel ever. There's no greater shame in gaming than the King blasting you for having a path...

Re: 636: Vampire Survivors

I accidentally ruined this game for myself. In retrospect, it probably saved me 400 hours, but after a little bit, I decided to try out all the unlock cheats and it basically immediately stopped being fun right after because I didn't earn all the funny little crazy characters I was playing, whoops.

Re: 563: Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin

This was my 2022 GOTYIERHACO (Game of the Year if Elden Ring Hadn't Also Come Out). It's a bit of a shame all the first impressions of chaos memes and Limp Bizkit had people writing it off, me included. Wouldn't have tried it if my friend didn't sit me down to. Once I did, there was a bug in my brai...

Re: 556: Animal Crossing: New Horizons

This game sits oddly in a spot where it just happened to come out at the best time and worst time: Best considering it was a nice pleasantry to distract the apparent end of the world, but the worst in terms of Switch complacency. The console doing so well that they don't have to try so hard to impre...

Re: 507: Kingdom Hearts / Kingdom Hearts HD I.5 ReMIX

The simple roots before this game decided to dive off a hill into literary chaos. And then again when it decided to ignore the chance to get out with some dignity and do a triple flip into the hellhole after KH2. But we'll get there when we get there. For now, as much as this game probably has the w...

Re: 544: Metroid Fusion

I replayed all the modern 2Ds to catch up for Dread, so this one was the last on the list. Talk about this game was basically nothing but how terrifying of a world it made. The SA-X is horror on the GBA. Maybe it's just me getting lucky but I basically never ran into the SA-X unless it was scripted,...

Re: 533: Cuphead

This game is a game I constantly say I hate as I'm playing it, getting creamed with attacks I felt like I should have dodged over and over again. But nothing else gives me the satisfaction of seeing that KNOCKOUT! I absolutely love the feeling of slowly understanding attacks that seemed impossible t...

Re: 515: The Wonderful 101

Wonderful 101 is in my top 10 games of all time. Yes some of the minigame sections are a slog and I hate going through 6-2 with the flashback and ship combat but this is easily the best thing Platinum has ever done. The best implantation of QTE's, the best use of the Wii U hardware and basically the...

Re: 532: Hades

Hades is the best rougelike around. I dunno where all this rougelike hate came from in the gaming discussion, oversaturation maybe, but basically everyone agrees it's the exception. Gameplay's great. Poseidon coming in clutch. Music's grand and it's always nice to run in on the couple singing in Asp...

Re: 506: Super Metroid

I marathoned the major most recent 2D Metroids leading up to Dread, so my first foray into Super Metroid was after Zero Mission and Samus Returns. Definitely a staple of game design and I'm not saying it doesn't hold up, but I think some of it doesn't hold up as well as people want it to. Like, that...

Re: 505: Hollow Knight

They can take as long as they need to on Silksong, because I know whenever it gets a release date, I'm going to have to replay through this game and that means tackling all the optional parts and DLC and killing the sun. Not sure if I'm emotionally ready for that. Good game. Every game's better with...

Re: 494 - Final Fantasy VII Remake / Intergrade

Somehow avoided spoilers and just finished this in September 2021. I think divorcing FF7 from the story we know beat by beat in favor of telling a story that could hit us with the surprise we remember from the original is a lot more preferable, even if it means "being betrayed and lied to."...

Re: 488 - Castlevania (Akumajō Dracula)

Ok, so maybe I'm just stupid, and I emulated the game so maybe I'm invalid, but I played this when Simon got in Smash, just to get invested. Got to Dracula's final form. I understand it's an old game, but is it just awful that you basically need Holy Water to stand a chance at killing him without ge...

Re: 481 - Xenoblade Chronicles

I'm just here to say Reyn might be one of the most charming characters in gaming. Some people might say he's annoying and they're definitely wrong. My Xenoblade experience was defined by the myriad of one-liners he'd drop during battle, especially the one. You know the one. Don't think I ever took h...

I first played this after I realized I wanted too much of an actual game out of Animal Crossing and was recommended this instead. And they were right. It was a great experience. I know there's gonna be some people in the forum who talk about how relaxing and peaceful this was but I couldn't disagree...
