Re: 647: Luigi's Mansion 3
Luigi’s Mansion 3 was a nearly wonderful experience I purchased near launch but finished in the spooky season a year later. A highlight of the game is astonishingly detailed particle effects. I could simply vacuum sand and suck curtains for an entire game. The visual spectacle of coins dancing about...

Re: 640: Dredge
I’m a sucker for a good fishing game, and the combination of good reviews and the Cthuluian Cosmic Horror premise drew me to Dredge. My first hours were filled with wonder and discovery, exactly the kind of feelings I was hoping for in the game. Dredge was spooky with it’s grotesque fish and mysteri...

Re: 637: Sonic 3 & Knuckles
I never owned a Sega Genesis, but it was my first console experience and Sonic and Knuckles 3 was a staple of my neighbours. My best friend and I played the previous entries, including Sonic CD and Sonic Spinball, all under exposed insulation in his concrete basement. I was a bit young and usually b...

Re: 630: Untitled Goose Game
Untitled Goose Game is one of those games you can show to non-gamers without fear of intimidating them with a dense UI or complex meta game. I played Untitled Goose Game through in a couple of sittings before showing it to my partner at the time. We played on the switch in her tiny studio, and I hav...

Re: Super Mario Odyssey
Just wanted to come back and say that after a couple of years, I've picked up Super Mario Odyssey again as a cool down game after playing Signalis. With more of the trickier Moons unlocked in the post game, I'm enjoying it a lot more as a platformer. Perhaps there's a touch of nostalgia in there now...

Re: 615: Pikmin 2
I adore the Pikmin series, but they’ve never been in the right place at the right time for me. I had Pikmin 1 around launch for the Gamecube, but the 30 day time limit really stressed me out as a kid. So when Pikmin 2 was being advertised without the day limit, I was excited to head back to PNF-404....

Re: 576: Final Fantasy Tactics / The War of the Lions
I had Final Fantasy Tactics Advance as I kid and loved it. Unfortunately, and perhaps my memory is wrong, but I remember getting soft locked in the late game and was never able to finish it. This year, I bought The War of The Lions but I couldn't get into it. Lots of "Theest Thou" language...

Re: Our next podcast recording (17.12.22) - 550: A Short Hike
I played A Short Hike during a period of lockdown in Sydney. It was a welcome reminder of the bigness of even small places. As an hiker and former camp counselor, I’m astonished at how well A Short Hike translates the experience of being outdoors to video games. I was grinning the whole time I playe...

Re: 535: Universal Paperclips
I have the web version of Universal Paper Clips open as I start typing this. I had some background on the game having watched Jacob Geller’s excellent youtube video “The Horror of Universal Paper Clips and Space Engine”, but it’s been a while so the details were foggy. I immediately ran the business...

Re: 523: Dream Daddy: A Dad Dating Simulator
Dream Daddy was a game I played with some of my non-gaming friends. Visual novels require relatively low reaction times and it felt like a good way to show my friends how wide the genre pool of games is nowadays. It was also an exercise in seeing what representation in games looks like on game outwa...

Re: 513: Subnautica
I played Subnautica right around the time it came out of Early Access on PC. The pitch of an underwater exploration game with survival and crafting elements really floated my boat. This was before crafting in games had been overplayed. I love the terror and curiosity the ocean inspires, and a game b...

Re: 532: Hades
With all the hype around Hades I had high expectations for the game. I played the Switch version in my hostel dorm room in Adelaide, Australia. I don’t want to be a downer but I’d like to present what I expect to be a dissenting opinion of the game. First though, some praise. The NoClip documentary ...

Re: 457 - Stardew Valley
I was a big Harvest Moon 64 fan, with nothing else really scratching that itch (even the games in the Harvest Moon series), I was really looking forward to the release of Stardew Valley. I caught the tail end of the hype train up to release on Steam. Stardew Valley feels like a game just for me, a H...

Re: 456 - Pokémon
Congratulations to the Cane and Rinse team for tackling such a massive series in the history of gaming. Good luck to the editor :) ! I'm very happy to see one of my favorite games in this year's line up. I was in America for the initial wave of Pokemania. As a young boy of only 5 when Red and Blue h...

Re: 469 - Overwatch
Overwatch is my junk food gaming. It's a game I have a fondness for but am quite embarrassed to be playing. I am very aware that the "dink" of a headshot or the "shink" of knocking opponents off the map is just a well executed, purposefully tailored injection of dopamine. I stop...

Re: 449: Super Mario Odyssey
Unfortunately, I think this is the game that made me realize "maybe I don't like platformers". After seeing reviews like " This is the Mario game we've been waiting for!!!" and comparisons to Breath of The Wild, a game I love dearly, I had my expectations set very high for this t...

Hi KDF, it’s only a shame that you posted this after the podcast recording! Yea this is the second time I've been too late for a recording! I always hear "Next week's podcast will be [game I've played and I want to talk about]" and then 3 days later I get around to writing in the forum, a...

Re: P.T.
Hi All, Long time listener, first time poster. I was the Web Master at The Museum for Art and Digital Entertainment (MADE) back in 2017-2018. While I primarily contributed by working on the website, the whole operation is volunteer run and we had a lot of freedom in how we wanted to participate in t...
