Re: Starfield

You could seamlessly take off and land on different planets in Damocles (1990) too, but the fact that isn't the case in Starfield isn't a dealbreaker for me. I agree. It's not a dealbreaker. This isn't a space sim. I just wish it was handled better. The loading screens don't help. Travelling alread...

Re: Starfield

Have you tried 30fps? It seems as though that was the intended frame rate they were aiming for. Maybe that's just console, though. Unfortunately the performance was only the start of my problems with Starfield. I think it's a horrible game to play and it's very dated. The loading screens and the mu...

I play on a monitor and 30fps is really tough on the eyes sitting up close like that. I don't know the tech lingo but TV's have something going on that seems to make 30...

Re: Starfield

Thank heavens for Game Pass because I dodged a bullet there. Performance is horrible on PC. Absolutely dreadful. I'd heard in advance that it was chewing through the RTX 40 series so my 3070 was guaranteed to be under serious pressure. 1080p at medium settings was the only way I could guarantee 60fp...

Re: Videogame News

Has anyone here been following the Baldur's Gate 3 mini 'controversy' where a number of developers from various studios weighed in on a Twitter thread about how the game shouldn't set unrealistic expectations going forward? I think it's quite a remarkable response because the comments predated the r...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I've been playing Diablo IV on PC and I'm having a rather fine time with it. It's mental junk food so having it as part of a sensible gaming diet will be absolutely essential in the months (years?) ahead. The minute to minute gameplay feels so damn good, especially on controller. In fact there's now...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

Just to note, every one of those games I mentioned are frequently in sales on Switch and can be bought way cheaper than full price, so just keep an eye out if you fancy any of them. Cool. Good to know. I'm a total fiend for sales. I very rarely buy anything full price these days. I've been burned o...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

The Switch is excellent for 2D gaming - For the "mainstream" franchise staples you have access to - DKC tropical Freeze - Megaman classic, X, and Zero/ZX collections - Castlevania anniversary collection (for the classic games) and advance collection (more metroidvanias) - New Super Mario ...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

They're not exclusives, but... Yokus Island Express (amazing 2D Metroidvania crossed with a pinball mechanic, one of the most delightful games I've ever played). Hollow Knight (probably THE best 2D Metroidvania in my opinion) Ori & The Blind Forest (a close 2nd for favourite Metroidvania) Shove...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

Could people please give me some recommendations for 2D Switch games, whether that's Metroidvanias or platformers or stuff like Streets of Rage 4. Anything in that (very broad) mould. I'm playing Tears of the Kingdom right now but I quite fancy having a couple of very different types of games on the...

Re: The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

It got a 10 in this month's Edge, which is out this week. It's only the 6th game in 30 years that received maximum scores from both Famitsu and Edge. The others are: Ocarina of Time Bayonetta Skyward Sword GTAV Breath of the Wild. The presence of Skyward Sword on that list serves only to undermine ...

Re: The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

I've been using the Hori Split Pad Pro when playing in handheld and the rear buttons work very well with this game. Having sprint mapped to the rear right button allows me to control my direction and camera while I'm sprinting, thus avoiding that awful Dark Souls claw that were all used to. And I ha...

Re: The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Just curious, did anybody switch the voice acting to Japanese? I don't love Zelda's English voice, but I haven't heard her speak since I switched to Japanese. I know I could look it up online but I'm looking forward to naturally hearing her and Ganondorf speak for the first time (again). Yeah I swi...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I've been playing Nintendo games. And lots of them. Tears of the Kingdom, obviously, but also Metroid Prime Remastered, Kirby and the Forgotten Lands and various bits and pieces via Nintendo Online. I've spent the past few months playing a lot of dense, systems-heavy games on PC, and truth be told I...

Re: The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Some of the content I've come across on YouTube is... interesting. It's remarkable how differently people play games. BOTW and now TOTK are quite mediative experiences for me. Yes, there's death and bombast and panic and running. But overall they are worlds to relax in. A place to wind down a day. S...

Re: A thread of the greatest game mechanics of all time...

This is quite a low key (i.e. boring) feature that may not even qualify as a 'mechanic'. But I'm hugely appreciative of and thankful for the various assists that operate in the background of racing games, particularly 'simcade' series such as Gran Turismo, Forza Motorsport and Codemasters' F1. It's ...

Re: The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Regarding the frame rate, on PS5 I always have to out the game at 60fps mode as I also really notice when a game is running at 30 now, however I haven’t with ToTK. Maybe it’s because I’m playing handheld so it’s not as noticeable on a smaller screen but yeah, can’t say it’s been an issue for me yet...
