Re: The Sony news and discussion thread

My guess is the latter. Because you don't want to understand the word 'both' and you're determined not to waste a good frown. Pick a position and bend reality to suit your feelings. How contemporary. I actually laughed that you don't have an Xbox despite the irresistible temptations of backwards co...

Re: The Sony news and discussion thread

ThirdDrawing, you keep making reference to 'streaming'. Do you think PSNow is a streaming-only service? I won't repeat the points I've already made to the points you've already made. It doesn't matter if we agree. Evoking the retro gamer scene works against the argument you're making. Playing on the...

Re: The Sony news and discussion thread

This rubbish myth about BC being minute is only because it's so difficult to get companies to include BC anymore. If it were freely available, you would see more activity. What do you believe the myth to be? You agree that BC is a niche interest while putting the cart before the horse, i.e. There's...

Re: The Sony news and discussion thread

Might I remind you that this forum is not NeoGaf, and describing gamers as "shit munchers" while employing console wars talking points is kind of not exactly Gucci 'round these parts. It's somewhat affectionate shorthand for 'mainstream consumers' rather than gamers but I just wanted to d...

Re: The Sony news and discussion thread

Game Pass will only get better as Xbox studios start producing exclusives. I honestly can't remember how many years ago I first heard this sentence. After Horizon: Forbidden West, I've honestly kind of lost faith in Sony's ability to produce great games. I'd suggest you play any of the other PS5 co...

Re: The Sony news and discussion thread

From a different angle, their back catalogue is vastly superior to Xbox and NSO is a bare-bones service with less care or features than a bargain bin retro comp. There are twice as many PS+ subs as GP subs, I expect this will be massive. Important to remember also that MS BC service is very restrict...

Re: Elden Ring

I totally know what you mean about the evolution, seems there's stuff constantly shifting and opening up and hinting at something to come. Two more things I really like about it - the weather system and the traversal. I think it's inspired how every reset or death shifts the clock along and the weat...

Re: Elden Ring

From doing my post-completion mop-up, I've been surprised that I've hardly been locked out of anything as far as I can tell. I've already chosen my ending, so there's that, but many of the NPC quests I hadn't even touched are still good to go. I also just found another castle and main boss that I'd ...

Re: Elden Ring

Doing a mop up after taking down the last main boss and I realised how much of the game I hadn't seen, probably another 15-20% there, at least. There were four separate named areas, one of which is massive and dense, and a good half dozen major bosses. I then looked up some other secret/missable bos...

Re: Elden Ring

I'm about 55 hours in now, just going through Caria Manor, and the game really does feel like it's massively favoured towards magic users. Almost everything cool I find has a high intelligence or faith stat to use it. I shouldn't be 55 hours in and still using my starting Uchigatana (even if it is ...

Re: Elden Ring

I'm at the last boss now, 75 hours in. Not sure how long it'll be until I take it down or if I ever will but the game has been utterly immense. I haven't been this absorbed in anything since Bloodborne. There are a couple of grim spikes around 80-90% of the way through (FG, GD) which nearly soured m...

Re: Elden Ring

I've completed two very substantial optional side quests this weekend and my Astrologer is now doing absurd damage. Various gear spoilers: I got the Moonveil katana and the Moonlight Great Sword (or whatever it's called in this) and got both up to +9. I'm up to 70 INT and got loads of sorcery buffs....

Re: Elden Ring

Done major bosses two and three over the last two evenings and both were fantastic. Very tough at first, similarly so, but once I got into the rhythm, they were very distinct and incredibly satisfying nuts to crack. Third boss is up there with the very best for me. Also, whereas much of the game fee...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I definitely appreciate that you're not just working through '1001 Best Games Ever' and it's something I particularly enjoy about the show. It's that I feel the genre is underrepresented in games media as a whole and the likes of Sine Mora (or R-Type Final 2 or Sol Cresta) get far more attention tha...

Genuinely sad that Sine Mora has been chosen for the podcast ahead of the hundreds of better shmups. Weird one. Game is dogshit.

Re: Elden Ring

I'd say if you've done Stormveil, you can keep heading through. I also spent an hour this morning evening mopping up bits of Limgrave and various night time bosses I'd not come across before, including one particularly brutal fella who gave me a ball bearing. I'm somewhat over levelled for Limgrave ...

Re: Dark Souls I, II and III

You'll be fine to add some magic to your build down the line. The starting classes mean almost nothing in these games after the first ten hours. Also, I wouldn't worry about parrying on your first playthrough. Just block and whack them when they bounce off. That will work for the vast majority of re...

Re: Elden Ring

You must have steamrolled him! Very cool fight albeit I took him down from distance like a coward. I just did the second major boss after about 40 hours or so, I got absolutely melted within the first couple of seconds maybe half a dozen times but managed to get there with a tanky spirit summon (Ole...

Re: Elden Ring

I don't think this is necessarily a spoiler but I'm amazed at how the map keeps expanding and zooming out further. When I was 30 hours in, I thought I'd hit the furthest NW and NE that things would get and that seemed massive to me. I felt like I shouldn't have been in those areas and they would be ...
