Re: 538: Resident Evil Village
Village isn’t the best RE game. That goes to 2, 4 or 7, depending on your particular level of incorrectness (we all know REmake is the correct answer). But what it is the best at is the thrill ride. Its predecessor, 7, was a slow and pondering horror game where for the vast majority of the game you ...

Re: Games Completed 2021
14/04/2021 - Dead Space 3 (co-op) What a monumentally stupid game. I loved Dead Space 1 & 2. They were brilliant, tense, cinematic horror games. They married excellent horror chops with slick videogame design. I knew going in that DS3 wasn’t as good, but my god. For a start, Dead Space 3 isn’t s...

Re: Monster Hunter Rise
The only fault I have with the game (and it’s a tiny fault) is that the map is really bad for showing elevation of things. When you’re doing the collection quests I spend far too long looking in an area only to realise the item is above or below me. But it’s a tiny niggle in an otherwise flawless game

Re: Monster Hunter Rise
As I said in Whatcha Playing, this is my first MH game and I adore it. The combat is brilliant, the world is so much fun to run around in, the graphics are amazing (seriously, RE engine is a miracle. Or witchcraft). I adore it. I’ve done a few online hunts (HR2 atm) but I’ve mostly been focused on t...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
Help! I bought Monster Hunter: Rise on a whim and I’m utterly, completely, catastrophically in love with it. I am very tempted by this game, but I'm too afraid that what has happened to you will happen to me. I simply don't have time for that kind of behaviour at the moment, so I shall resist.........

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
Help! I bought Monster Hunter: Rise on a whim and I’m utterly, completely, catastrophically in love with it. My Xbox is crying. My PC is gathering dust. My girlfriend is threatening to take the cats and go to her mothers! Good god this game is brilliant. I’ve never bothered to get into Monster Hunte...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
I started Pillars Of Eternity II: Deadfire this week on the Xbox I love a good D&D style RPG. The Caribbean/West Indies vibe of the Deadfire archipelago makes a refreshing change from the generic Western European feel of most RPGs. The combat is complex and meaty and the role playing is top notc...

Re: First or memorable platinums / 100% achievements
I got the platinum on Demon’s Souls. That. F**king. Pure. Bladestone. One enemy drops it in shrine of storms 2, hidden behind a wall on the side of a cliff. The item has a 0.5% drop rate and if you boost your luck stat that rate decreases because the chance of his other drops appearing goes up. I sp...

Re: 476 - The Last of Us Part II
I adored the original game, playing it through multiple times across two generations. But with TLOU2... I just couldn’t. I managed to get about 10 hours into the game and I simply couldn’t carry on with it. It’s not a gameplay or presentation issue. It’s the Naughty Dog formula refined to perfection...

Re: Our next podcast recording (13.3.21): 460 - DOOM Eternal
DOOM Eternal was a huge disappointment for me. DOOM 2016 is one of my favourite games of all time. DOOM was my gateway into gaming as a kid and I’m even one of those weirdos who loves DOOM 3 But Eternal.... no, Eternal isn’t DOOM for me. Sure it’s fast and it’s violent, but it doesn’t have the magic...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
I’ve been streaming Dead Space 3 in co-op with one of the podcast lads. I didn’t like it when I played it years ago solo, but in co-op it’s a hilarious mess. Honestly, the game is so broken. Enemies get stuck on the environment, assets pop in and out, Carver disappears from cutscenes, Ellie’s boob p...

24/02 - Control What a game. I bounced off it when it first came out, but when it appeared on Gamepass I thought I’d give it another shot. It’s bloody brilliant. One of the most artistic high budget games I’ve ever played. The production design is superb. I adore the brutalist architecture of The Ol...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
Damn. Well I’m very glad I’d played 0 first then. I’d have real trouble sympathising with Kiryu without the buildup of Nishiki and seeing how generally dreadful Dojima was from the 0 story

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
Well, after finishing Yakuza 0 on Monday, I started Kiwami last night. I’m glad I played 0 first as Kiwami does a really bad job of setting up the characters and the world building before the action kicks off proper. There’s barely any introduction to important characters like Nishiki or Kazama befo...

22/02 - Yakuza 0 I have no idea why I loved this game. It’s mad, it makes no sense, it’s painfully Japanese, it has flawed storytelling, pacing and a lot of questionable content... But I adored it. From start to finish, it’s one of the strangest, most brilliant games I’ve ever played. Onto Yakuza K...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
Started the RE3 remake tonight I’m enjoying it so far. However, the Nemesis chases are not fun. He closes distance so quickly and I’ve died a couple of times from him stunlocking me with attacks. Very frustrating. I’ll persist though. The set pieces are exciting and the general exploration is quite ...

Re: The best gigs you've been to?
It’s a toss up for me. On the one hand, seeing Rammstein doing a best of set in 2012 was pure spectacle and perfection. So much fire, with an incredible stage show and a set list that can only be considered pure perfection. It was amazing. On the other hand, Foo Fighters in 2007 on the Echoes tour. ...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
I’m back into Yakuza 0 in a big way. I’ve just started chapter 11 so I think I’m into the last third of the game.
It’s a gloriously silly, melodramatic soap opera and I love it
