Re: Our next podcast recording (10.2.24) - 606: Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
As I'm sure I mentioned on one of the previous Metroid Prime shows, Metroid Prime 3 was my first entry in the trilogy that I played. Now 17 years later it is the final Prime title to be finally completed. I was 1 energy cell short of finishing the game on my first playthrough and I didn't have the p...

Re: Our next podcast recording (3.12.23) - 598: Slay the Spire
I'm a sucker for deckbuilding mechanics in games so it was a no-brainer to pick this up back when it hit early access. I played the 2 available characters on hundreds of runs in the first month or so before putting the game down until I came back when the third character was added. I really enjoyed ...

Re: Our next podcast recording (22.10.23) - 592: Metroid Prime 2: Echoes
Overall I enjoyed Echoes more compared to its predecessor. Simultaneously after having played all 3 of the prime trilogy and completed 2 of them I've come to realize I vastly prefer the 2D Metroid experience over the 3D offerings. In spite of the much better pacing of Echoes over Prime 1 I still rea...

Re: Our next-but-one podcast recording (7.10.23) - 590: Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga
Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga was my first Mario RPG and remains my favorite closely followed by The Thousand Year Door. I still remember receiving it on Christmasd day. It was almost certainly the same Christmas day Kez86 wrote about and I echo all of their sentiments. The game is not too long bu...

Re: Our next podcast recording (27.8.23) - 584: Sonic CD
Sonic CD is my favorite 2D sonic. I'm sure a lot of this has to do with how it was the first game I owned for my even at the time old windows 98 PC. After years of exclusively handheld consoles I finally had something that could play full blown Sonic "console" titles and booting up into Pa...

Re: Our next podcast recording (5.8.23) - 581: Star Wars: The Force Unleashed / The Force Unleashed II
The original Force Unleashed was one of the few single player titles I experienced on my Xbox 360. I remember having a lot of fun with the physics engine and pulling a Star destroyer out of orbit with the force is a particular highlight lodged in my memory. With that being said I don't remember much...

Re: Our next podcast recording (23.4.23) - 566: Metroid: Zero Mission
I played this a couple years ago and loved it. I don't get on with the original Metroid but love Fusion and am a sucker for GBA games in general. This smashed it out of the park on all fronts and is most definitely one entry in the Metroid series I wouldn't mind replaying once in awhile.

Re: Our next podcast recording (1.4.23) - 563: Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin
Light spoilers for the ending of the game and all 3 DLCs contained. I knew SoP was up my alley and went in expecting to like it. However, I did not imagine it would become my favorite entry in the franchise. It is though for a myriad of reasons. The combat is the closest to what my young self though...

Re: Our next console special podcast recording (TBC.5.23) - PlayStation Vita
I never have owned a Vita proper despite loving my PSP. I had too many other games and couldn't justify the purchase at the time and when I was ready to look at the Vita library it had already been all but abandoned by Sony. I picked up a Playstation TV for $40 on clearance to play one game and mayb...

Re: Our next podcast recording (11.2.23) - 556: Animal Crossing: New Horizons
This was the third animal crossing title that hit at the right time for me to pick it up. I expected around 40-80 hours of relaxed fun and that's more or less what I got. I don't know if it's just playing it as a busy adult but it left much less of an impression than the Gamecube and DS iterations. ...

Re: Our next podcast recording (5.11.22) - 544: Metroid Fusion
It is said that the first title you play in a series often ends up your favorite and it was certainly true for Metroid Fusion with me. Growing up with handheld consoles for the majority of childhood this was my first exposure to the Metroid franchise outside of Samus' appearance in Super Smash Broth...

Re: Our next podcast recording (16.10.22) - 541: Sonic the Hedgehog 2
I only got to play Sonic 2 at friends' houses until I got Sega Smash Pack 2 for PC in 2000. It was certainly the title from the collection I played the most. To my young self it was just as fun and magical as anything that was releasing brand new at the time. It holds up well even to this day and it...

Re: Our next podcast recording (1.10.22) - 539: Metroid Prime
The context in which I came to play Metroid Prime 1 was with Metroid Prime Hunters as my first game in the series and then later playing up to the end of Metroid Prime 3, using a power cell on an optional energy tank, and then was unwillingly to go find another power cell so that I could finish the ...

Re: 532: Hades
I really like Hades. Unlike what from my perspective appears to be the common sentiment, I did not enjoy Supergiant Games' titles prior to this one. I finished Bastion but was left confused as to why it was so lauded and chalked it up to not having been there contemporaneously for it. I then tried t...

Re: 525: Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout
I played Fall Guys around launch and had a relatively good time with it; even manged to nab a crown during my brief stint with the game. Like others have echoed here though, the lack of variety made me shelve this after a while. I returned once to see some of the new content but it wasn't enough to ...

Re: 507: Kingdom Hearts / Kingdom Hearts HD I.5 ReMIX
Kingdom Hearts was a game I only got to play at friends' houses on occasion as I did not have a PS2 at home. I really liked the combat, it was what I had always hoped to see from an RPG with full on real-time attacking and blocking tied to all the typical under the hood numbers getting bigger you wo...

Re: 506: Super Metroid
I wasn't truly aware of how highly this game is regarded until I got involved in the speedrunning scene in 2011ish. I had been aware of the game being regarded as a significant milestone, possibly progenitor, of the Search Action sub-genre but seeing it masterfully executed at blistering speeds is w...

Re: 505: Hollow Knight
Hollow Knight is a game I really enjoyed...eventually. I first tried some years ago but dropped it after about 45 minutes. I found the first area quite dull, the combat was serviceable and felt satisfying to an extent, but I had other things I wanted to play waiting at that time. Some time later a g...

Re: Our next console special podcast recording (6.2.22): SEGA Saturn
The Sega Saturn was something of an Enigma to me growing up. I knew about the Genesis, I knew about the Dreamcast, but I'm not sure I even heard about the Saturn prior to when I started university. As I only had Game Boys at home I could only get a taste of home consoles at friends' houses for the l...

Re: Sega Saturn
I just got a Japanese Saturn a couple months ago so I could finally play Ninpen Manmaru on original hardware. Ironically I still haven't procured said game since the price skyrocketed in the interim since my friend showed it to me on his Saturn so many years ago.
