Re: Whatcha Been Watching?

We watched Time, a Jimmy McGovern prison drama with Sean Bean and Stephen Graham from a couple of years ago. Pretty bleak but very moving and staggering performances from the leads. Not an easy watch but I think an important one, incredible piece of work.

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I can't remember the name of either the weapon or the perk (helpful start) but the assault rifle (carbine?) has a perk which refills your health for damage dealt. That got me through. I feel like redownloading it now. Amazing game. Carbine with Leech Rounds. I tried it a bunch. Leech rounds are nic...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

And please keep going. Chapter 4 spoiler: The music swell as you approach the boss and then the actual boss fight is probably my favourite segment of this generation so far. I get oddly choked up just thinking about it. So intense, overwhelming and beautiful. So, Chapter 4 and 5 are way more diffic...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Update on my progress in Returnal (PS5): I just beat Act 1 and my jaw was on the floor... So Selene contacts Astra to escape Atropos, lives out the rest of her natural life and dies of old age on Earth, and then comes back to life again on Atropos! From a "this is all a video game" perspe...

Re: Resident Evil 4 (2023)

Bit gutted that this game makes me feel so ill. I've not bought it but tried the demo several times with motion settings and same end result. Ah that sucks. Not had it with this, but I went decades with the only game to make me feel like that being Half Life 2, but I've found in recent years, perha...

Re: advice for a trip to Portugal / Spain / Czech Rep.

greetings, all I'm heading to Europe in a few months — Porto, Barcelona and Prague. I’m looking for any recommendations for cool places to drink, see good live music and meet cool people. local arcades may be cool to visit too. I’m not really interested in the typical Trip Advisor checklists. anyon...

Re: Resident Evil 4 (2023)

Looks great but the demo gave me motion sickness, even with the accessibility settings on. I think it's possibly something about the RE engine unfortunately because I get it from all the modern RE games, first and third person. Probably also I sit too close to the telly but that won't be changing.

There are plenty of options, yep, but I think the Split Pad is easiest and best.

Get the Hori Split-Pad Pro for the Switch.

I love that show but I can't remember ever liking a game they rave about. Their GOTYs are almost always games I can't bear, almost amusing now.

Re: Shmups

Just picked up G-Darius HD on Switch for a tenner in the sale. I didn't realise there were multiple versions of the game included, which gives a bit more value, but it's one of my favourite arcade shmups so looking forward to playing it later. Just need an Arcade Archives release of Armed Police Ba...

Re: Shmups

Really into Shmups on the Switch recently. Downloaded G Darius HD, Mushihimesama, Crimzon Clover. Keep seeing the Aleste collection high up in ranking lists of shmups on Switch? Is it really that great and worth getting? Not wanting to sound like a snob but they are Game Gear games, and while there...

Re: Dark Souls I, II and III

Bed of Chaos is notoriously unfinished, and something they've acknowledged as such. Same for much of Demon Ruins and Lost Izalith, they simply ran out of time with the second half of the game and it shows. TOTG is annoying but also quite trivial if you have the right items to light it up. Like much ...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I'm playing the Metroid Prime remaster, and quite enjoying it. I don't think I ever did finish it when it was last released with the Wii controls but I played through 3 a couple of times and loved it. All the praise is deserved for how they've updated it, both with the standardised twin-stick contro...

Re: Games Completed 2023

Re: Elden Ring I agree with much of the above. While playing it, I felt it was incredible and I've probably never felt such a sense of scale and exploration outside of Skyrim (the best, relative to my experience at the time) and BotW. I didn't have that many problems with most bosses - likely becaus...

Re: Our next podcast recording (11.2.23) - 556: Animal Crossing: New Horizons

I loved the sound design and the HD Rumble for the basic actions. The feel of chopping wood, swishing the net and yanking the fishing rod was so satisfying. I think that mechanical tactility, along with the music, is what got me through to the credits. I'm not interested in the customisation or land...

In 1989, the incomparable: https://image.tmdb.org/t/p/original/ioOkpheiLa8qdiaNettkP5nDbKl.jpg Obviously, H.R. Giger and specifically Alien(s) influenced a lot of biomechanical boss/level design. You also have the cancerous mechanical 'baby' at the end of Akira, released in 1988, but the manga start...

I'm a medium-term listener of the podcast but I rarely contribute on here and consequently don't feel quite part of the community. But I do snoop around a couple of times a week and really value all of what's written and of course the advice I've been given and kindness I've been shown over the pas...
