Re: The anime discussion and recommendations thread
It's definitely better that Earthsea. What I meant is that it evokes the same kind of feel with its cinematography, although CHCLV does it better. There are plenty of very wide shots of sprawling meadows and grasslands, nice use of lighting, and similar architecture and character design to Earthsea...

Re: The anime discussion and recommendations thread
Recently I saw a film called Children Who Chase Lost Voices . Apparently it's also got the alternate name in the UK of Journey to Agartha, but I haven't found anywhere that actually lists the film as that outside of Wikipedia. It's a pretty good fantasy movie which is kind of in the vein of more re...

Re: Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch
I was lucky enough to get the Japan-only DS version of this game - "Ni no Kuni: Shikkoku no Madoushi (Ni no Kuni: The Jet-Black Mage)" - when I was over there last year. Although it rather seemed to have targeted for kids and that the story felt too rushed towards the end, I did enjoy it o...

Re: The Happy Birthday Thread
The day has come... Happy Birthday, JaySevenZero!!! :D I just had to be the first one for this as his other half (though it doesn't seem he's registered his birthday on this forum - on purpose or not)! ;) And also noticed there's another birthday boy today... Happy Birthday, RoboticMonk3y!!! :) p.s....

Re: Whatcha Been Watching?
I've had a week off work so decided to watch Firefly/Serenity again for the first time in years. Had forgotten how much I love this show. Like Dredd, it makes me sad how few people supported these great stories on the big screen, depriving us of more as a result. Can't agree more with you about Fir...

Re: The anime discussion and recommendations thread
...it really puts me off when poor voice acting ruins the whole movie :x Typical examples are recent Studio Ghibli movies - Ghibli producer Toshio Suzuki says he likes "natural voice acting", but it's rather "wooden" than "natural" to me... I bought Arrietty to ...

Re: The anime discussion and recommendations thread
Nice seeing everyone's recommendations! Tekkonkinkreet is pretty cool, I'm kind of interested in checking out that Tokyo Godfathers now though, thanks for the suggestion! Glad my post got you interested! Hope you like it as much as I do. Seeing Golgo 13 in your post put a big smile on my face, as I ...

Re: The anime discussion and recommendations thread
The ones that instantly came into my mind as my all-time favourites are: Samurai Champloo (26-episode series, 2004-2005) It was made by the people behind Cowboy Bebop that DarthCuddles has mentioned, but I personally got much more into this "samurai meets hip-hop" kinda unique world :) Bot...

Thanks, really glad that last one is cleared up. I spent hours trawling through amiga music, it's been fun though! :D It was pretty much pure luck - I actually hadn't even heard of Amiga when I first saw the clue, hahaha  but just felt like giving it a good try last night, and 15 minutes or s...

Never heard of 'em. Ha! 8-) Yea I am in that band as JaySevenZero wrote for me... :) I mainly play the drums, but in a few tunes I also do a bit of vocals, keyboard, glockenspiel, melodica, typewriter... which are all good fun  I'd like to mention my older band here now though there's only a m...
