Re: Pokemon UNITE

Been thinking about downloading it for the kids - 6 and 4, pretty decent at games (they finished Mario Odyssey and 3D World on their own) so have a good handle on controllers and stuff - would you say it's a game kids could get to grips with?

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I've also started what I believe roughly translates as Yakuza: Black Panther (?) in English, but it's the Japan only PSP Yakuza game. That's cool Alex, are you playing on Vita? I assume it's not an official patch Yeah playing on Vita, which is 'hacked'. No it's just a fan patch I downloaded online....

Re: Games Completed 2021

All in all, an absolute must play for anyone who misses the old school Paper Mario and/or just wants a cute adventure with some competent world building. Honestly a contender for my personal GOTY so far. Did you ever play South Park: The Stick Of Truth? Before this Bug Fables, that's the closest I'...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Finally found a couple of games that seem to be drawing me in. I've had Bayonetta 2 on Switch in my back pocket for ages since I bought the double pack a while back. Absolutely loved the first game last year, and just started the second one last night. Only done a few stages, but spent most the even...

Re: Do you binge play video games or take your time?

It really depends on the game and my circumstances at the time. During periods where I've been off work on leave or whatever, or times where work has meant I don't need to get up early, I could happily play the right game for 6+ hours a day. That's how I played most of Red Dead Redemption 2. But mos...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I'm really struggling to stick with anything right now. Games, TV, books, comics... Keep starting new things and getting bored of them really quickly. I don't know what's happening, this isn't like me at all. Just can't concentrate on anything. I played 5 Switch games in the space of an hour last ni...

Re: Our next podcast recording (31.7.21): 480 - Metroid

I thought I'd try to give this a fair crack for the podcast, but after an hour or so of frustration I gave up. I just can't really see any reason to go back this far in the series now the SNES and GBA games exist. I can imagine playing it back in the day and being amazed by the openness of the level...

I'll watch it again soon. I've also just seen it's on Netflix UK, apparently.
It doesn't appear to be, but I've earmarked it for a watch if I can find a copy streaming anywhere now or in the future - sounds interesting!

No, didn't start one yet. I was going to but then I got distracted by playing old PS1 games on my Vita

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Inspired by this weeks show, I've been playing the hell out of Sega Rally Revo on my Vita (PSP version). It's absolutely fantastic fun! Looks nice, good tracks and a wicked sense of speed. I would recommend this game to anyone who felt like they wanted to play Sega Rally after listening to the podca...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

I just don't understand their apparent stubbornness with the refusal to expand the service. I can't be alone in actively wanting to pay more, for more. Even if they released a slate of GBA games on to the eShop as paid downloads, I'd be all over them. Minish Cap, Mario & Luigi, Mario Vs Donkey K...

Three new games join the SNES service next week.

Nintendo are really spoiling/trolling us [delete as appropriate].

Re: Games Completed 2021

I do wonder how Journey would review if it was released today. At the time it was, possibly alongside Braid and Limbo, one of the beacons of the emerging indie game era towards the latter stages of the 360 and PS3 generation, and it was applauded rightly so at the time. I've never been back though, ...

Re: Whatcha Been Watching?

Following another recommendation from Jay I just watched The Nightingale (available on Netflix). It was excellent. Uncomfortably brutal in places, but not in a celebratory Tarantino style, just harsh, miserable brutality. The film is set during the days of colonial Tazmania, and the treatment of the...

Re: Whatcha Been Watching?

On Jay's recommendation, I just watched Hostiles on Netflix. It's a revisionist Western with Christian Bale, who gives a great, understated performance as the world-weary 'about to retire' solider, given one last task. I won't say any more, but it's a solid genre film, albeit one without any real tw...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I'm about 15 hours in to Ashen on the Switch. What started off as a very definite 'Dark Souls Lite' has slowly evolved in to its own thing. Initially the challenge just wasn't there, but I'm currently finding where I'm at really quite difficult. It's a good game!

Re: Games Completed 2021

FWIW, Metal Gear Solid V is easily the strongest in the series with regard to stealth and stuff. The tools, moves, and sheer variety of options make it highly enjoyable and easily playable. And when things go to shit, the shooting is pretty competent too.
