Re: Our next-but-one podcast recording (24.6.19) - 375: Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong ‘94’

Before I was even aware of Donkey Kong, I had a game called Crazy Kong on the VIC-20 which I adored. It was purely down to the box art that I ended up with this relatively decent version because there were several Crazy and Krazy Kongs around of greatly varying quality. Much like Scramble and Skramb...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Wow. I had a quick go on Aria of Sorrow earlier, but wasn’t expecting to see it being discussed here. Didn’t get far, was just seeing where I’d got to years ago. which wasn’t far either! Finished Final Fantasy 7 on Switch. Wonderful story which I knew nothing about in advance so the twists and turns...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Been playing Cadence of Hyrule and im obsessed with discovering it all. Ironically, I would have been too if Crypt of the Necrodancer hadn’t been so cheap. Once it clicks it’s fantastic, but it’s definitely not the Necrodancer game I was planning on buying this week! Finished SNES Pilotwings on 3DS...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I heard Super Mario Land mentioned the other day and couldn’t resist digging it out. Still love the way that game plays, and it might be short but the environments are fantastic. The final section is still a bugger though! I was really spoilt the day I got that and Tetris with my Game Boy - portable...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

Just home and caught up with everything I missed. Mana collection got me going but £34.99 a bit pricey when I’ve got Secret of Mana barely touched on the SNES Classic. Definitely buying the Contra collection and Wargroove in the Switch E3 sale before I go to bed. Crypt of the Necrodancer also tempti...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I gave Sonic Mania a spin too but it feels like every other Sonic I’ve ever played so unlikely to convince me! I went back to Cuphead on Switch and finished everything I was capable of on the regular difficulty, but three of the last area bosses are still way beyond me after hundreds of tries betwee...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Just to remind me that Cuphead isn’t as cruel as I think it is, I spent a whole evening playing Manic Miner last night! At one point I got to the fifth screen, which is about as far as I’ve ever got, but even now there is very little I would change about it. I also spent far longer than I expected t...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I finally got around to having a go at Friday the 13th: The Game, which was a PS+ game months ago. Right subject matter, wrong game type, which is why I’d never bothered until now with it despite loving the films and Jason as a character. It just reminded me of the worst bits of Assassin’s Creed, bu...

Re: If you could only pick one console...

Good shout. I’ve got one on my Amazon wish list but was holding out for some hands on impressions before ordering. Which is always a risk - that NES Classic took me a couple of years to get hold of because I played that game!

Re: If you could only pick one console...

I played NES and SNES games for the first time when I got the Classic Minis. Really wish I could go back in time and have them first time around. Missed out massively there. My brother actually had a Megadrive. We played a lot of Virtua Racing and an ancient isometric FIFA if I remember right.

Re: If you could only pick one console...

I didn’t need to think it through. 70% of my top ten games ever are on there and 55% of my top twenty. And I haven’t even got to Manic Miner at that point. I’ll never, ever covet your Mickey Mouse games, and certainly not your hedgehog ones. If you ever need a second player for Streets of Rage 2 tho...

Re: If you could only pick one console...

I knew I was taking a gamble with that, but concluded I was keeping in the spirit of the discussion because it was effectively just a games machine, like a console. But I suppose you could also type in BASIC listings from magazines on the worst keyboard ever that were either crap or more likely just...

Re: If you could only pick one console...

Not a console, but ZX Spectrum, no question. Whether through original hardware, emulation, or more recently original hardware again, I’ve never stopped playing my favourite Spectrum games since the mid 80’s - Feud, Renegade, Shao-Lin’s Road, Elevator Action, Enduro Racer, Gauntlet, etc. are always c...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I moved on to punching my leg and the most bizarre one I found myself doing once was slapping myself hard in the face. I did tone down my gaming rage exploits in my last post. You’re not alone! Another game done... Does Kid Dracula count as the first Castlevania game I’ve ever finished? It’s on the...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I’m not that far from completing Cuphead on Switch, but I’ve had to put it to one side. I know how to beat the boss I’m stuck on, but after hundreds of attempts I just can’t do it, and it’s got to the point where I’m throwing controllers and punching walls, meaning that’s enough! I think I’ll revert...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

My brothers got me a PlayStation Classic for my birthday last week, and I’m very happy with it so far! I’ve got it running on a small TV in my study (sharing HDMI and power with my C64 Mini), and Super Puzzle Fighter 2, Destruction Derby, Twisted Metal and Ridge Racer - which are all I’ve put seriou...

Re: Videogame Deals

There’s been loads of good stuff on sale on Switch this week, but just spotted Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove has been added, which is the game plus all the DLC, at 50% Off, which is about £11.50 - I didn’t pay much attention to the exact amount in my excitement to buy it!
