Re: Slay the Spire

For a man who plays 95% shmups and finds the likes of Into the Breach or Wargroove or Darkest Dungeon or any stat based or tactical RPG fundamentally boring, no matter their evident value or quality, is there going to be much point in me getting this? I love Slay the Spire, but it shares some DNA w...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I'm griping and gurning my way through Observation , the game where you play a HAL-type AI on a space station which has had an accident, investigating faults and bringing systems back online at the behest of one of the survivors. I like a lot about it - the narrative hook, the setting, the exploring...

Re: Books completed

You will then have to change all your user names to SnowCrashxxxx like everyone else who's read that book. :) Edit: I am reading the latest book in the Expanse sci fi series, which came out a month or two ago. It is good; he is still doing that trick of cutting from several exciting chapters in a ro...

Re: Videogame News

Frostpunk is coming to PS4 and XONE 'later this year'.

It's a game I've had trouble pulling the trigger on, on PC. Yesterday they gave me a 50% off voucher for owning Banished, but I can't help thinking, with the Steam sale around the corner, that it's a trap.

Re: Games Completed 2019

May 13 - Darkest Dungeon: Ancestral Edition (Switch) Oh man, congrats on that. I don't know how many times I've started this game. I assume that late game slog could have been mitigated slightly by playing on Radiant rather than Darkest? As I understand it, Radiant doesn't insist on the full party ...

Re: Games Completed 2019

Looks wonderful man. Cheers! On the first time through you don’t know what the next materials/upgrade path is going to be, so it can get a bit messy. Next time it can be planned with military precision. There was also no resource pressure really. For example once you discover a coal deposit and plo...

Re: Games Completed 2019

I think I've completed Satisfactory, as far as it goes; at least there are new recipes popping up and the next tier of goals are not yet available in Early Access. Pretty great overall. My original complaints that it was not complex were unfounded - it's not as complex as Factorio, where you could d...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Looks like I'd be too thick to play that. It looks complicated. It's actually quite simple and superficial (but looks great) at the moment. I 'manufactured' all that from just one starting iron and copper mine, very basic ingredients compared to let's say, Factorio, where if you wanted to drill for...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

There's a great chunky feel to all the machines you make, and excellent animations. Really adds a lot. The space elevator being built was really cool.

The well-regarded Skullgirls is €1.60 on Fanatical for the next 6 days - it's a Steam key and is the Complete version with all DLC.

Re: The more I go back to last gen, the worse it seems (PS3 and 360)

The other trend that was ubiquitous in that gen was bloody zombies. Now I like campy silliness like House of the Dead as much as anyone but again it seemed like if a developer did not want to do a army man game they decided to do a zombie game instead and what resulted was what seemed like an avala...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Having a look at Satisfactory, the 3D Factorio. The planet you land on is beautifully realised, verdant and lush. I've just built my first machine and am having serious qualms about the pollution, of all things:

Re: Videogame Deals

For PC people, Fanatical has Stellaris and all its DLC (apart from the most recent one) at 50% off - the deal has been going for a few days and I can't tell when it expires. If you were buying fresh, you'd want Stellaris (EUR 9.99) and probably Utopia (EUR 9.99). Most of the other DLCs are EUR 4.99 ...

Re: The more I go back to last gen, the worse it seems (PS3 and 360)

Hehe, aw, are they rubbish? It's ages since I've seen them. I picked bad taste from the video shop based solely on the cover and my dad rolled his eyes, he was laughing as much as me by the end though, especially the cliff scene with the hammer and the scene with the puke bowl "Ooh, I got a chunky ...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I made a GoG account and bought two(!) games. My heart will always belong to dedicated hardware, but I figured it was a bit silly of me to miss out on the handful of exclusives that interest me and which I could run on my laptop for no other reason than stubbornness. Don't worry, it's not going to ...
