Re: Mass Effect: Andromeda

Look, I really didn't mean to attack you personally. It's just... I can't think of any other industry who could get away with this kind of nonsense. Movies only going through half of post-production, cars not being in a driveable state, processed food missing half the ingredients written on the list...

Re: Mass Effect: Andromeda

I don't think you can go wrong with any of these choices, to be honest. Tangentially related, but I don't think I'll ever understand why people are so willing to buy unfinished games at launch. A massive, five-year production cycle project can't just be rushed within two years by overworking your de...

Re: Forum Changelog and Forum Suggestions

Okay, thanks for clarifying!
I liked the old theme a lot. Fingers crossed that Jay will manage to recapture some of the ancient magic.

May I ask what your experience has been like on the technical front? I've been reading several reports concerning various technical issues (especially AI bugs), and this sort of thing tends to put me off.

I'm sure I'm gonna sound like a total dork and all, but I think that the multiplayer elements of the Soulsborne games offer a fantastic insight into human nature.

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

BF4 (2013) arguably still offers the premium multiplayer online shooter experience, certainly on console and certainly in terms of games set in a contemporary theatre. Ahem... Overwatch is set in a contemporary theatre, albeit a highly stylised one. Are you sure you want to go down that road? :D Ed...

Re: All things Fire Emblem

Eh, I'm not a huge fan of Shadow Dragon. It's very bare-boned, strangely devoid of charm and personality, and I do think it does a few missteps like the gaiden chapters requirements. It's not a bad game per se, but I struggle to think of a reason to play (or to recommend) it over most other titles i...

Re: All things Fire Emblem

Wonderful analysis. The plan-heavy way is how I learned to play the games and the depth you encounter in doing so makes most other SRPGs feel shallow in comparison. Instalments with grinding opportunities like Sacred Stones and Awakening miss the mark entirely, for me. Thanks! I agree about grindin...

Re: Games completed 2017

Very well said, Michiel. I personally prefer FE7 over both 9 and 10, but your analysis is on point. The experience management/planning aspect is definitely one of the series' strongest elements. The story in 9 especially is surprisingly good, I'd say it's probably the best narrative of any first-par...

Re: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

So I went ahead and bought the WiiU version today. Partly because of the critical acclaim, partly due to a desire to encourage Nintendo to put effort in their first-party lineup, and partly as insurance against a potential TP situation which would result in future scarcity. Can't see myself having e...

Re: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

I'm perfectly capable of finding enjoyment in great open world games. The Witcher 3, MGSV, even Õkami or Yakuza (if they count) to name a few. But I just consider it to be a fundamentally flawed design choice instead of the "ultimate" world design style it is often being praised as. And I do respect...
