Re: Bloodborne

I'm sure I'm gonna sound like a total dork and all, but I think that the multiplayer elements of the Soulsborne games offer a fantastic insight into human nature.

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

BF4 (2013) arguably still offers the premium multiplayer online shooter experience, certainly on console and certainly in terms of games set in a contemporary theatre. Ahem... Overwatch is set in a contemporary theatre, albeit a highly stylised one. Are you sure you want to go down that road? :D Ed...

Re: All things Fire Emblem

Eh, I'm not a huge fan of Shadow Dragon. It's very bare-boned, strangely devoid of charm and personality, and I do think it does a few missteps like the gaiden chapters requirements. It's not a bad game per se, but I struggle to think of a reason to play (or to recommend) it over most other titles i...

Re: All things Fire Emblem

Wonderful analysis. The plan-heavy way is how I learned to play the games and the depth you encounter in doing so makes most other SRPGs feel shallow in comparison. Instalments with grinding opportunities like Sacred Stones and Awakening miss the mark entirely, for me. Thanks! I agree about grindin...

Re: Games completed 2017

Very well said, Michiel. I personally prefer FE7 over both 9 and 10, but your analysis is on point. The experience management/planning aspect is definitely one of the series' strongest elements. The story in 9 especially is surprisingly good, I'd say it's probably the best narrative of any first-par...

No offense, but... what isn't? I'm assuming you're referring specifically to the combat system.

Re: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

So I went ahead and bought the WiiU version today. Partly because of the critical acclaim, partly due to a desire to encourage Nintendo to put effort in their first-party lineup, and partly as insurance against a potential TP situation which would result in future scarcity. Can't see myself having e...

In that same PSN sale, Valkyria Chronicles is also available for €8 or your regional equivalent. Definitely worth it, if you ask me!

Re: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

I'm perfectly capable of finding enjoyment in great open world games. The Witcher 3, MGSV, even Õkami or Yakuza (if they count) to name a few. But I just consider it to be a fundamentally flawed design choice instead of the "ultimate" world design style it is often being praised as. And I do respect...

Re: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

I'm not a huge fan of open world game design and could never connect with the Zelda series the way I wanted to, but I have to admit that all these impressions I'm reading are making me very curious. Then again, I thought the exact same thing back when GTA IV came out!

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

So, am I understanding this correctly that you're primarily a PC/PS/Xbox player and that this is going to be your first Nintendo console? You do have a lot to look forward to if that's indeed the case. I think they're a bit past their prime to be honest, but the classic Nintendo Magic is a very real...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

Yeah, that's why it seemed such an odd choice to me to just buy a Wii and a Switch. You would basically leave a WiiU-shaped hole in your library for no (?) good reason. :D Another thing to add is that the WiiU eshop has a small but solid selection of Wii titles (among others). So you could grab clas...
