Re: The Sony news and discussion thread

Speaking of PSVR, it's been out for almost a year now. And I can recall the press and various voices on the internet hailing it as a Great Innovation and The Future Of Gaming, etc... I haven't heard about it for months now, so I wouldn't mind hearing from the early adopters themselves. Are you still...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

If I understand things correctly from various forums, I now have to restart the entire game because I'll not have much chance against the next boss without arrows. What? No, that's nonsense. You don't need to use arrows against any boss. Just take your time and play cautiously. You're bound to make...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I finished my last competitive matches of the Overwatch Season 5 earlier today and ended up with a very respectable SR of 3696. I think I'll be taking a break from the game for a few weeks, partly because I'll need time to get used to the Mercy rework once the patch hits the live servers, and partly...

Re: The Monster Hunter thread

I genuinely feel both admiration for and bemusement of people who attempt playing through a huge RPG in Japanese. Like people who played through Persona 5 before it came out in the UK. It must be such a huge undertaking to painstakingly translate each word in such text heavy games. Hats of to you l...

Re: All things Yakuza (Ryū ga Gotoku)

Quick question, do the other games in the series have so many time wasting things to do like arcade games and pool and darts etc? That was a big part of the game for me. Yes they do, although they did get better over time. The early games didn't have the same level of playability you might be used ...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I think it's probably surprising how much players are willing to spend on cosmetic items. Only tangentially related, but let's not forget that RNG-based systems like loot boxes operate under the same principles as traditional gambling, with all the psychological trickery that comes with it. It does...

Re: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

My young kids are totally caught up in it too, both with their own save game. Just wandering off and discovering things and I can just imagine how they're experiencing it all. This is the first time they are completely absorbed in a single video game. That's wonderful, man. Must be a very touching ...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

Never before as a media have we had it so good regards accessibility to games. That's a moot point. While it's great to have so many digital distribution options and to see console manufacturers move away from the anti-consumer nonsense that is regional lockout, I think there is still a lot of room...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

From then on I've only sold the occasional game to get an 'obvious' upgraded version... though that came back to bite me too, sometimes (Melee - Brawl). Brawl as an "obvious upgraded" version of Melee? Tears were shed that day! :P To clarify, I certainly have sold games in the past, most of which I...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

I'm considering selling a bunch of my Wii U games that I'll likely never play again and which I sense will get Switch ports if they haven't already. So Shovel Knight, Mario Kart 8, Smash Bros... maybe Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze too. It'll allow me to rebuy MK8Deluxe and a few Indies. Bad idea or s...

Re: The Sony news and discussion thread

It looks like Yakuza Kiwami 2 leaked on the Taiwanese PS store yesterday, although it was quickly taken down.
Can't say I'm surprised, very much looking forward to it, though!

Re: Sound of Play: 108

Good episode, and I was very happy to see one of my Yakuza suggestions being incorporated into the podcast. However, I don't really understand why the hosts were just left wondering how the japanese theme song would sound like even though I suggested it at the same time as this one. I think it would...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Yes, the quick turn was first introduced in RE3 (along with the dodge). I keep forgetting about it as well, which always leads to the inevitable "Oh wait... that's right." moment during my yearly series playthrough. Although to be fair, it's mostly just out of habit. The game and the enemies themsel...

Re: Xbox One

There was a really good article on Eurogamer/Digital Foundry about how it costs quite a bit more to build a PC with the same power as the X (which annoyingly I can't find now) I found this one: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2017-if-xbox-one-x-is-500-usd-how-much-will-true-next-ge...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

 You know I love the Tank Controls  , I was just pointing out that due to the slightly awkward and slow movement controls, it sort of ramps up the tension in those - "Move quick, shooty bang bang !! moments " I know I know, don't worry! Speaking of which, the lack of a quick tu...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

It's a simple port, but it has all the extra modes (4th Survivor, Tofu Survivor & Extreme Battle), has higher resolution than the PS1 version and comes on a single disc. It's also the only version with skippable cutscenes as far as I know, which is a blessing on repeated playthroughs. I'd also argue...

Great stuff! RE2 is a masterpiece, and the GC version is probably the best one in my opinion. Very happy to read about people honoring yesterday's classics like that.
Spoiler: show

Re: Videogame Criticism

Echoes is very much the Majora's Mask of the Prime trilogy. It's dark, oppressive, takes a lot of risks and sometimes outright alienates the player. That's why it's such a divisive title. For my part, I acknowledge that some elements don't really work, but I think that the stuff that does work eleva...
