Re: Fire Emblem: Three Houses

TL,DR: It takes a lot of ideas from the 3DS games, but executes them far, FAR better. Nice, thanks for sharing! :) I'm not a fan of S supports or of the general idea of turning the entire support mechanic into a dating sim, to be honest. Supports in the 3DS games tend to be either romantic or goofy...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I haven't taken the time to try Galaxy 2 myself yet, but the first Galaxy is an absolute masterpiece. The incredibly smooth controls, the hugely creative bite-size stages, the music and the aesthetics are all screaming "FUN!". I'm sure the sequel is on a similar level of quality.

Re: Console Special No.4: Microsoft Xbox

Did you ever play the Ninja Gaiden on Vita, ksub? You're talking about Sigma Plus. That's an enhanced port of Sigma on PS3, which itself is a port / remix of Black on the Xbox. I haven't played Sigma Plus, although I have played Sigma. I went into it in the podcast thread a few years ago, and... I'...

Re: Fire Emblem: Three Houses

I'm happy to see the positive reception this game is getting, on here and elsewhere. It's just a bit difficult for me to know how much of that would translate to my personal experience and expectations of the series, since most of the enthusiasm seems to come from either series newcomers or Awakenin...

No no, it's not you. I wasn't trying to focus on anybody in particular. I'm all for joking around as long as it's in good fun, I just think that the limit of what is acceptable seems to have slightly shifted over time and that it happens to coincide with some contributors apparently leaving us for g...

Re: Shmups

No, I'm not talking about the Nintendo thread which was completely civil, or any other single example, really. I just think the overall tone is rather different than it was 2 years ago. Then again, maybe my perspective is skewed or something. I haven't played much, no. I tried to stay away from all ...

Re: Console Special No.4: Microsoft Xbox

Ninja Gaiden certainly. I like hard and challenging. Remember the deep fluidity of movement and wall jumping and the bonkers bosses (Though i imagine the repeat battles with same bosses, and all-the-bosses will still be a pain). Yes. Yes, yes, yes. Play Ninja Gaiden (Black). There is nothing quite ...

Great points KSub; sorry for not giving a longer reply here but I've gotten myself into a multiplayer game of FOGE with strangers on the internet :o
No problem, hopefully it was thought-provoking at least.

Re: Fire Emblem: Three Houses

You lot just completely ignored my four years of shilling for the series and now have the audacity to act all surprised that this game somehow magically doesn't turn out to be a complete turd. Some friends you are. Anyway, it might be a while before I get the opportunity to play it myself, so...

...What the hell is going on here? Calm down, clippa. I just took a break for a few days. I tend to put a lot of effort into my posts (to the point that it occasionally cuts into my productivity), and I get frustrated when it only results in trolling. So I thought it'd be best to stay away for...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I've yet to experience anything that wasn't phoned in, hack crap. Well, I guess it's gonna be a tiny bit difficult for various writers and directors to help someone appreciate the value of their work if said someone is too busy mashing the skip button out of some raw consumerist entitlement about w...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

I hate how COD and Sports Games are used as a way to dismiss a whole swathe of gamer culture - both have massive and vibrant communities in their own right. Fair point, but I wasn't trying to dismiss their entire fanbases. I was only using them as examples of games that do have massive casual follo...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

And with Cane and Rinse we very deliberately try to steer away from that mindset and that type of coverage. Of course man, and I appreciate that! Trying not to hold a game's age against it is probably the one aspect that made CaR stand out to me among all other podcasts when I started listening to ...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

going back to 8-bit games made before their time just isn’t for everyone. But to me, good games are good games, regardless of when they were made. That's exactly the way I look at it. I think we just have to acknowledge the extent by which gaming culture is shaped by recency bias. Casual consumers ...

I’ve got a shitload more to play I’m just feeling the fire in the PayPal pocket.
Real talk: I think it'd be smarter to focus on one of the games you already have for the time being and keep the money for the next time a big sale comes around.

But that's just me. :)

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

Zero Mission is a remake of the first game and is the superior title in every respect in my opinion. Either ZM or SM are probably the best entry points when it comes to 2D Metroid.

The first one is hard to get into: password save system, no in-game map, stiff animations... That sort of thing.
