Re: Games Completed 2020
#10 - Trials of Mana (2020) Oh my god, this game... I LOVED it. This is exactly what a remake should be - something that respects and reverse the source material enough to leave many of the original ideas in tact, but recreated with modern technology in mind. As someone who enjoyed the demo, this i...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
Since I greatly enjoyed the first two Arkham games and it is going to be covered this year by Cane and Rinse, I figured now is as good a time as any to jump into Arkham Knight. I am enjoying it so far. Combat is not as fluid as Spiderman but it is still fun to beat the stuffing out of goons. However...

Re: The videogame music thread (also Sound of Play submissions)
Banjo Tooie has a reputation as being a darker game than its bright and cheery predecessor. It starts with your arch nemesis killing one of your friends, your house and homeland being destroyed, and the world is going to be drained of its life in order to get the villain’s body back. And this is all...

Re: Games Completed 2020
Jan 31-Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair April 13: Yakuza Kiwami April 30: Locoroco 2 I played the first one a few years ago on the PSP and I found it alright. This is strange as I am actually someone who has a lot of time for cutesy games such as Kirby, Klonoa and the like. So I decided to give...

Re: Royal Mail's 2020 video game stamps
Seems like not having anything related to Rare is a pretty big oversight. Perhaps it's hard to get the rights to do so, with those IPs being tied up with Nintendo and Microsoft. Or maybe they felt those relationships made those games less "British"? Maybe something from the Spectrum era l...

Re: Sound of Play: 246
This is an interesting year with the end of one console generation and the beginning of another (though the dreamcast was 2 years old by then). A lot of stuff I have no clue on but this is the small sample of games that I could identify in this episode: Marvel vs Capcom 2 Jet Set Radio Kirby 64 Perf...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
It's really not the nostalgia goggles speaking; the original FF7 is simply better than the Remake. While I enjoyed the demo of the remake a fair bit I have to say that the original FFVII really does deserve a lot of the praise it gets. I only played it for the first time two years ago so that is no...

Re: 447: Yakuza Kiwami
I had a really good time with Kiwami and I definitely want to stick around for the rest of the Yakuza series but it does feel ever so slightly disappointing compared to the godly Yakuza 0. Substories, for example, were a bit more samey with Kiryu constantly uncovering and failing for various scams. ...

Jan 31-Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair April 13: Yakuza Kiwami Would have posted about this earlier but was feeling under the weather so waited until I was back to normal. Besides, my proper thoughts will be elaborated on in the feedback for the Kiwami Episode later this year but for now, like...

Even though the world has slowed down, time can still go by quickly that it might seem like only yesterday since you last posted so don't feel too bad about going offline for a bit, Alex. Great to hear that your friend is improving!

No problem Suits. If they keep this level of restrictions up for a little while longer then the damage should be substantially reduced. Was a real emotional rollercoaster reading this thread and glad so many loved ones are making a recovery. Alex, things sound pretty tough at the moment. I hope your...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
Ooh, I tried this too. Played to the end of the demo but there wasn't enough there to tempt me into buying. The voice acting is really bad though. Charwotte is the worst and I didn't even include her in my party but the others are varying levels of poor too. It's like middling to poor PS2-era JRPG ...

It has been a mad last couple of weeks, eh? Austria has been pretty good about the whole situation. People for the most part are practicing social distancing and everything but supermarkets and chemists are shut. Only 2 people allowed in at a time at chemist and face masks are mandatory now for shop...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
Tried the demo for Trials of Mana and got a fair amount of hours out of it. You can definitely tell it is a SNES rpg just by the structure of it and it's straightforward story. Found it to be pretty enjoyable overall and may just check out the full game in the future. Only real fault I can find with...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
Other than Yakuza Kiwami, I checked out the demo for the Final Fantasy VII remake. Wow, this has turned out nicer than I was expecting. While it was expected that the visuals and music were going to be gorgeous (the music especially had a great base to work from) but I was pleasantly surprised by th...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
I think I was in the minority that wasn’t disappointed which is why it took me so long to mess with it, though I was given it as a gift knowing it had been bought in a period when it went very cheap. There was enough on there I adored and enough I’d never played but wanted to to make it worthwhile ...

Re: 428: The World Ends With You
A friend of mine recommended this to me as he knew I was a DS owner who loved his JRPGs. This being a new series from Square Enix and being set in modern day Tokyo did make this pretty appealing so I was not hard to convince me to give it a go! While the game had some clichés such as a main characte...

Re: Our next Console Special No.8 - recording late March 2020 - Nintendo Super Famicom (SNES)
A common feature of my childhood in rural, Catholic Ireland was when families in a parish would host what is known as the Station. Long story short, the local priest would come to your house and perform Mass there while the neighbours would come around to attend said Mass. Each family would perform ...

Re: 430: Paper Mario
N64 and RPG were words that rarely went together and for fans of the genre, it is understandable that they left for greener pastures on the PS1. But there were a few attempts made for the system and Paper Mario was easily the best of the lot. It was this, not Super Mario RPG that really made me fall...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
Getting a bit more up to date, I’ve just got the AutoBleem hack running on PlayStation Classic. It’s really simple and runs off a USB stick so no risk. Having a great time with Destruction Derby 2 - one of my all time favourite games - as well as Legacy of Kain, Parappa the Rapper and Nightmare Cre...
