Re: Mario Kart 64

OK so... I loved SNES Super Mario Kart. Me and a good mate used to spend a lot of time in the mid-90's playing it in the evening, whilst chatting and listening to music... we always described that kind of nirvana you would reach when you were playing at your optimum level yet thinking of something t...

Re: Stardew Valley

Interesting, didn't realise it was on the Switch! I enjoyed Harvest Moon on the PS1 and have had an eye on this for a while but never took the plunge.

Now I've got a Switch I might pick this up so I can play on the trains.

...and having read a bit more of those PQ3 posts, it's somewhat relieving to read that the teenage version of this chap back in the 90's got stuck at the exact same point I did!

Classic Adventure Game Walkthroughs

Hi all, Just found this fascinating blog and thought I'd share - someone has spent the last 6 or 7 years playing through a load of old adventure games from 1977 through to 1992... writing about each step of the game with screenshots. https://advgamer.blogspot.co.uk/ After discussion on this week's S...

Re: The videogame music thread (also Sound of Play submissions)

Just occurred to me that this is one of the best video game songs ever, yet was not selected until now! (unless I missed it) "Lets go for a joyride" from the original GTA. Epitomized the gameplay for me, gangster-esque, yet somehow cartoony and comedic. Must have listened to this track a hundred tim...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Went to a friend's house over the weekend and finally had a little go on Breath of the Wild.

Very much enjoyed it and may consider asking Father Christmas for a Switch :)

Re: The videogame music thread (also Sound of Play submissions)

As soon to be mentioned on an upcoming Sound Of Play, here's a great one - the Spectrum version of the MOTD theme, from Match Day.

From 29 seconds until 1:07 or so.

Re: Elex

Off topic a little but if the janky mid-tier niche appeals to you, you should check out The Technmancer on current gen. It appears janky at first glance but is actually a very decent RPG in the Eurojank mould, and should be cheap now too. Thats exactly the game I was thinking of when I saw this tbh...

Re: Headset and webcam

Depends on the budget... I currently have a Corsair Raptor HS40 headset and a Logitech C920 webcam which both work very well for me, though you're probably looking at about £120 for the pair.

Re: Elex

I read about this the other day after seeing an advert for it somewhere. It definitely looks interesting... though not sure I'm interested enough to pay full price for it. My only experience with Piranha Bytes games is Gothic 3, which I downloaded a demo for at some point on an earlier PC, the graph...

Re: Our next-but-one podcast recording (21.10.17): The Witcher III: Wild Hunt

And I didn’t even mention the hours I’ve lost to Gwent. This is a good point, I totally forgot to mention Gwent in my post before.... I really enjoyed Gwent, I've not really played a card game anything like it before, and very much enjoyed playing against the various people I met as I explored. Ear...

Re: Videogame Criticism

Funny how it divides opinion. I adore Max Payne 3, have played it through 5 or 6 times. The gun-play is the most visceral I've seen, with the Euphoria engine giving NPCs realistic animations as you shoot them. The different settings and music throughout the game keep me interested and especially the...

Re: Other podcast recommendations

I've now got a 2.5 hour round trip commute to work every day so getting a lot of podcasts in I've been meaning to catch up on. Just finished S-town. I really enjoyed it, but the whole time I listened thought it was a work of fiction. It was only after looking into it I discovered it was a true stor...

Re: All things DOOM

Are you sure the controls aren't customizable? I'm left handed and as such, when I play games, I always rebind the controls away from WASD as that is not practical for me, I tend to use the arrow keys and the surrounding keys for functions such as Jump and Crouch (Num Pad 1 & 0), reload (4) Run (Rig...

Re: Grim Fandango

I've played the beginning hour or so of this game so many times and never got any further than the second act. The puzzles are ridiculous to the point of frustration. I've always wanted to finish it, but it's getting more unlikely to ever happen as the years tick by. All I have to offer is a measly...
