Re: iOS and Android gaming

Holedown Mini-Metro Pocket City Gorogoa Florence 80 Days Steve Jackson's Sorcery! Threes! Drop7 Those are the best Android games I've played over the past two years. All are paid releases and meet your criteria. If you're looking for a 'videogamey' game then Holedown is the standout title. Overall,...

Re: Other podcast recommendations

I have recently dived into the McElroy family's podcasting empire, and in my usual fashion I have absorbed about 500 episodes in the space of 5 months. Their live-play DnD podcast The Adventure Zone is incredible. The Balance arc is DnD-lite, and evolves from a goofy improv comedy to one of the most...

Re: All things Achievements, Trophies, Meta

If anyone wants to look at their achievements or trophies success in 2018 in comparison to the diehards (and probably get thoroughly depressed like me), we've just set up our 2018 leaderboards:

TrueAchievements 2018 Leaderboards
TrueTrophies 2018 Leaderboards

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Because of those charming sods on the Computer Game Show I just picked up a PlayStation VR Mega Bundle -- that's with Astro Bot, Doom VFR, Wipeout, Skyrim and VR Worlds. Expect some updates on my new tech once I feel relaxed enough to attempt setting it up. It was a handsome deal on Very.co.uk for 2...

Re: What feature from game A would you like to see in game B?

I think I'm probably thinking more of third-person shooters than action games in general -- I agree that a lot of games with satisfying skill-based combat aren't easy to dilute. But when a 3PS is only offering chest-high wall pot-shotting anyway, I like to drop that right down to nothing because it ...

Re: The Big CaR Forum Quiz 2018

Bummed that I missed this while it was happening but I'll give it a go now! Failed miserably to answer the first section as I suspected. I think I did pretty well overall though. Round 1: The Old Ones Are The Best 1. Ron Gilbert 2. 3. 4. 5. Round 2: Modern Classics 1. Atreus 2. Playdead 3. Martin Sh...

Re: What feature from game A would you like to see in game B?

I would like to see Shadow of the Tomb Raider's granular difficulty sliders in every single action adventure with puzzles, traversal and combat. I like my puzzles hard and my traversal tricky, but I don't care for protracted, skill-dependent gunplay. At the same time I want my shooty-bang leaning fr...

Re: Games Completed 2019

Haven't got much to report as yet as I haven't had much free time, but I've started looking into Rami Ismali's Meditations project, which puts up 1 new game per day from an indie developer. It's only available for those 24 hours. He has one lined up for every day in 2019. I only remembered to try it...

Re: Gaming Goals for 2019

I'm on a big self-improvement kick this year and games form a small part of that. Namely, I want to spend a little less time playing trash (while admitting to myself that sometimes I want to play trash), and actually get some big names from my backlog completed. (I think my total cross-platform back...

Hello! Long time no see! Not really self promotion but this seemed like the most appropriate place to explain my absence - I'm now TrueGamingNetwork's Editor, meaning I'll be in charge of content strategy for both TrueAchievements and TrueTrophies (as well as TrueSteamAchievements, though that's a l...

In case it’s not already on the list, I’m going to throw in Minit. Based on my experience with it, I’m reckoning on it being viewed as a cult classic by the time you’d get to it!
Exactly the kind of game I'd get around to playing if I knew it was coming up on a podcast. Good shout!

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I haven't played Galaxy, though I'm sure I would enjoy it. My views above are certainly flexible to an extent. But presumably the core intent of Galaxy is for me to have fun, not marvel at the formula - unique as it may be. I guess that's what it comes down to. I'm not highly conscious of the formul...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I have to say, I play more games more thoroughly now with their so-called "busy work", their open worlds and familiar but well crafted activities, than I did when chasing after the auteur experience in my twenties - and I only did that because so many outlets and peers seemed to think everything I l...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Quite chuffed to say that I've been playing Shadow of the Tomb Raider at a preview event! I think it looks pretty awesome. The stealth combat is vastly improved and Lara is a much more complex character this time around, helped in part by having some more companions to bounce off of during gameplay ...

Re: The Sony news and discussion thread

I gave myself an initial spending limit of £30 to get me through the rest of the year with my new handheld. I don't think that should be a problem, as I now have: - Persona 4 Golden - Tearaway - Odin Sphere Leifthrasir - Papers, Please - Broken Age - Severed ...to play through, plus several PS4 game...

Re: The Sony news and discussion thread

Absolutely. I have a hell of a lot of digital Vita games - P4G itself has been £3.99 in sales (I have that physically though it’s too precious)! I just picked up Gravity Rush for £3.99 in the latest sale, and just two posts ago I highlighted Resogun is a disgusting £2.50 - there is a lot bargain wi...

Re: The Sony news and discussion thread

OK, so an observation that I haven't seen mentioned often among the various bits of praise that people give the Vita: Games are so cheap digitally! I can't believe the disparity between physical and digital here. I've gotten used to prices being either about the same (Nintendo) or drastically more e...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I have been trying to play through several Zeldas, but it's just not happening for me. Scratched off on my list of attempts now are: Link's Awakening A Link to the Past Breath of the Wild Link's Crossbow Training (my favourite so far! Thanks Darren!) There's nothing more stressful to me than failing...
