Re: 4K TV thoughts?

If you're in Canada or the US, I STRONGLY recommend a TCL-brand TV. They are incredible bang for your buck - I got mine just after Black Friday for $569... 55 inch, Roku built-in, 4k, HDR, basically has everything a TV twice the price would have. SOMETHING ESSENTIAL that may be easily missed is refr...

ALL-PLATFORM cross-play is now available. Anyone interested in setting up a CaR "smash ball with car" day?

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Don't know where best to post this, but I recently re-did my Top 100 Games list and properly put it into Google Docs for better sharing. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1xAqxgFkbbjmuG96AoxnYMaWs5Xrh2MmJt4qLAWY50fo If anyone's interested in the methods I used to distill basically every game I'...

Re: Gaming Goals for 2019

I've mentioned this to a few people that I speak to on here already, but since I'm not on a lot of time consuming games for this year's CaR volume, I'm planning to go on a bit of a chronological platform adventure (OR METROIDVANIA IF YOU MUST) tear this year, from classics like games of the Monster...

Played the first level of Rad Rodgers. Its a platform/shooter which has sweary characters, rubbish jokes and satires videogame mechanics.

You'd think it was made for me but unfortunately its a bit rubbish
Anyone remember Mat Hazard?

That ONE black Switch box is irrationally irritating me. You got this house fly in a crimson tide... Ugh. at least Deus Ex on WiiU had a matching teal logo.

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Oh, and to the folks just now getting off Kephalonia... There are entire systems and mechanics you will not even see for another 10 hours. The best part of the game ends up becoming an entire tab in your menu - it's your hit list, ostensibly. But not the Mercenaries one. This one's even better. Mayb...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

The thing to understand when playing AC Odyssey is that the amount of quests, optional and otherwise, and the total hours you can spend, is more on a par with something like Skyrim than previous AC games. You need to tackle it how you’d tackle an Elder Scrolls or Fallout game. There’s a lot in ther...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I must be a third of the way through Valkyria Chronicles 4 . It got cold, and then things got serious. The mission design is impeccable. More, please. Fam, it is consistently great. I have my own set of rules for VC games (no permadeaths, no ranks lower than A), and even with those restrictions and...

Re: When Is A Remaster a Remake? And When Is A Compilation A Single Game?

I'd personally say the new Shadow still falls under 'remake' since 100% of the visuals were created for this version and although they have the original codebase in there, they added more to it such as a new control scheme. Videogames often reuse tweaked code from past titles (Assassin's Creed game...

Re: 354: Hitman (2016)

Hitman is a game I fear I'll never finish - its episodic structure means each level is a room full of toys, and the player is a caffiene-addled child told, "Have at 'er, do whatever you please". I bought the complete edition not long after its retail release, and I spent nearly 20 hours just on the ...

Re: What's Out This Week?

I remember a few years back when weekly release schedule was like... A game. Some niche PSP JRPG or something. There were like 4 indie games, total, and Braid was one of them. Now? Every weekly release slate is like 20+ games, most of which are indie titles with VERY niche/limited appeal. I almost f...

Wooooo party time, threads are live!
I'm just happy that none of the Vol. 8 games that match my backlog occur until halfway on down the year. X: Got a sneaking suspicion Jan/Feb releases will have me occupied til end of March.

Re: Sound of Play: 2018 special

Ahh, righto. The last time I did an unedited podcast, we had a guy ramble on about some obscure PC mech game (Shogi, I think?) while others would try to interject and move the topic somewhere interesting. Suffice it to say, it wound up being an hour of discomfort. Oh, what podcast are you on? In th...

Re: Gaming Goals for 2019

- Tactics Ogre: Lettuce Cling Together (PSP version, which I've heard is much easier than the original ) The original must be insanely hard then. The PSP version broke me late in the game and I never finished it. The SNES version is literally so hard I could not advance past the second story fight.

The beauty of Smash is that it can have all sorts of music in a blender and come out working together brilliantly
Tru dat. Smash is a very special series in that regard. I've never really been a fan, but I like that so many people get all amped up about it.

Re: Sound of Play: 180

I sometimes feel that way when it comes to the length of the tracks but whenever I used to edit music, especially for a SoP I struggled with shortening it for the listeners time/patience or keeping it how the composer intended, loops and all. Thanks for the feedback, i'm sure the current SoP editor...

Re: Sound of Play: 180

This one was a really rough listen. I appreciate the want for diverse music, but the Game and Watch one, the Animal Crossing one and the victory fanfare one were just painful on my ears. Went on waaaaaaaay longer than I felt they should have, given the repetitive loops and irritating sound effects.

Tactics Ogre: Lettuce Cling Together  Nice to see some classic FE love round these parts, too. Lettuce Cling Together is an in-joke from when I worked at EB Games... Certain games were infamous for being a pain in the butt to search on the POS - the best example being "Eternal Poison" being li...

Re: Gaming Goals for 2019

I'm starting to think this year is going to be a good time to start going through some of the backlog games I have - especially the ones I liked, but just dropped because life and/or new releases came along. Principally, I want to finish: - Witcher 3 + DLC (I'm like 100 hours in and just about done ...
