Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

I don't know that the designers feel constrained to the tech, certainly with the N64 it was very much the case that the game design (of Mario 64) drove the tech side of what they were doing (they needed an analogue stick, so they added one). The Wii was driven almost entirely by Wii Sports internal...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

In some ways I am with you Gallo - part of me does feel game designers as talented as Nintendo's should be free to just create without limits, and not be forced to factor in the quirks and gimmicks of their host platform. But then another part of me can't wait to see what batshit crazy idea Nintendo...

Have revised my contribution to the podcast following our chat Flabyo as I think covering off that point about the extra content you brought up is a really important one...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

All I want is a HD Nintendo machine with no gimmicks I'm with you on this too I think you're going to be disappointed chaps. That's not the way Nintendo do things any more, and the latest word from Tatsumi Kimishima confirms it. Talking about how the NX won't be a direct successor to the Wii U, he ...

Re: Our next podcast recording (19.5.16): Titanfall

The maps all went free after about 6 months. Which is very nice of them and all (and I heard the content was great!) but it doesn't solve my problem of it being a lot of money for not a lot of content for those of us that picked it up at launch. I know people could counter that with 'well that's wh...

Re: Titanfall (recording 19.5.16)

They added to it constantly for over a year, rebalancing, adding new game modes and so on. It was probably the best example of a multiplayer title being supported strongly by its publisher until Nintendo launched Splatoon. I've heard this from a few people and I'm sure you're right. It did seem to ...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Anyone got any recommendations for PS+ games from the last couple of years I've not mentioned? Velocity 2X might be right up your street Alex based on the games you mentioned there. Absolutely fantastic game that has Vita cross-play and is great on both big and small screens. It was on PS Plus in S...

Re: The Sony news and discussion thread

Never played Dragon Age, so no comment there, but having played through The Witcher 3 it really is something quite special if epically scaled fantasy games are your bag. Just be prepared to lose a quite silly amount of hours to it to even just do the story plus a smattering of sides. It's so dense i...

Re: Titanfall (recording 19.5.16)

Podcast contribution - revised 18th May! As a day one Xbox One owner, Titanfall was a big deal when it finally released 4 months after that troubled launch. The initial line-up of games for the console was decent for sure, but Titanfall felt like the big, exclusive marker-in-the-sand that Microsoft ...

Re: Retro gaming

Thanks for all that mate - much appreciated insight! I've already got a Vita and a 3DS, but I've only got three more games I want to get through on 3DS before I'm willing to part with it (that last Prof Layton, Zelda: A Link Between Worlds and Virtue's Last Reward) so once they're out of the way I m...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Didn't play the beta but have heard so many good things - I'm sorely tempted! Might have to wait I'm done with the The Division though.... Will be Xbox One for me if I do pick it up - it's just a better controller for shooters for me by country mile (it's a better controller full stop but particular...

Re: Games completed 2016

Severed is definitely on my 'must play' list this year, so good to hear you enjoyed it. It looks like a really interesting game and props to Drinkbox for investing their time and money in an exclusive for the Vita when everyone else has all but abandoned the system. Just can't decide what to attack ...

have a JXD handheld packed with emulators (highly recommended) So these seem like a wonderful thing but almost too good to be true! I've never got into the emulator thing, and I've casually looked into the JXD but never really got a handle on how it works. Which one do you have mate? Where do you g...

Re: The Street Fighter thread

So SF5 has apparently sold 1.4m copies on PS4 and PC, including physical and digital. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2016-05-09-street-fighter-5s-sold-1-4m-copies Seems pretty soft, particularly when Capcom's stated sales target was 2m. Given the hype before launch I can only imagine the bad PR a...

I started working for somewhere that had dreamcast dev kits hot from Japan That's awesome! Retro gaming

Hi All. So I looked to see if there was already a thread talking about all things retro gaming and I only found one about retro handhelds and emulation, so I thought I'd start one! The reason for doing so is that I've been feeling all warm and fuzzy about the Saturn recently, sparked by a recent pla...

Until Dawn is worth a bash too I reckon.
