Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

(Ksub - always a pleasure but last night I am sorry I was not the teammate you deserved!!!) Ah, it's absolutely no problem mate! We all have good days and bad days with stuff like this. I've climbed a bit these past few days so the matchmaking might have been a bit imbalanced, too. And if anything,...

Re: Shmups

I fired up Raiden Fighters Jet yesterday. Hey, this looks kinda neat! I was considering grabbing the Aces compilation on 360, but unfortunately it appears to be region-locked. Good ol' gaming industry getting in the way of my shmupping yet again. :( I'm going to give Saidaioujou another go next aft...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

It's interesting you say that, because one of the reasons I love this one is BECAUSE the projectiles are much more visible than I'm used to in 3D SHMUPs. Crimson Clover (I don't think this one was 3D though?) stands out in memory to me as one where there was just so much shit on screen that I could...

Re: Comfort Gaming

Come to think of it, I don't think I really have such a thing as comfort gaming in that sense. I adore the cozy feeling of revisiting an old classic and do so regularly, but when I'm feeling too tired or stressed out to focus on playing games properly I usually prefer doing something else with my ti...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I've been trying a bit of Raiden IV: Overkill after reading Iso's posts since I had never played the game before, and... man, I am struggling with the visibility in that game. The screen is cluttered with all sorts of explosions, power-ups and collectible goodies as well as tiny enemy projectiles th...

Yay! See? Glad you gave it a shot, man. :P

Re: Ghost of Tsushima

My point was that sometimes you just want to play or read or enjoy something without having to learn complicated systems or even particularly practice to get good. Sometimes you just want to be entertained. Yes, I understand what you mean. But my point is that this way of treating slightly more dem...

Re: Ghost of Tsushima

Well how about a visual novel where every third word was in one of 15 random languages and the game asks you to go and look up what it means but all you wanted to do was relax and enjoy a story? Alex, please. This is an absurd comparison. There is no action game equivalent to what you're describing...

Re: Ghost of Tsushima

I started Nier Automata the other day, and while I can clearly see the craft in it, it hates me and wants me to hate it because I don’t have the patience in my life anymore to ‘git gud’. And I'm sorry for being so flippant too, but something tells me you would find it a tad ridiculous to hear someb...

Re: Ghost of Tsushima

Ur0pQblaZcE Sadly, this gameplay showcase pretty much killed any budding interest I had in the game as it proudly displays all the usual shallow genre-mixing AAA trappings I've come to dislike so much. All that budget and it's yet another QTE combat / diet stealth / open world game that plays itsel...

Re: Retro gaming

RE4 for instance just feels so good on that pad, the precision of that stick for aiming and that big, juicy 'A' button for firing. It doesn't feel right playing that game with anything else. Not a very popular opinion around these parts, but I couldn't agree more! Although to be fair, I think the m...

Re: Retro gaming

The GameCube pad is my favourite controller of all time. Just fits so snugly in the hand and the build quality has never been matched. I have nearly 20 year old GC pads that have aged better than my current gen stuff. https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/415c5Dwo6yL._SX384_BO1,204,203,2...

eEQ0KQsRF1M PSA: This video is legit. I love talking about video game controllers (arguably more than about the consoles themselves!), and the lovely folks over at MLiG have put all those from the 5th and 6th gen under the microscope. Meticulously researched and very well presented. An hour well sp...

Re: Shmups

What are you enjoying about it? The simplicity, especially in comparison to some of the more obtuse elements of DFK. SDOJ is super-straightforward with its 3-button setup and the difficulty comes from the very bread-and-butter act of dodging enemy projectiles rather than from the super strict chain...
