Re: Retro gaming
The GameCube pad is my favourite controller of all time. Just fits so snugly in the hand and the build quality has never been matched. I have nearly 20 year old GC pads that have aged better than my current gen stuff.

Re: Retro gaming
So Michiel mentioned Shock Troopers the other day on Chris' Ikari Warriors stream and it reminded me that I have the Wii VC release but never actually played it. Decided to remedy that today and what a fun game! Great sprite art, cool soundtrack and very tightly polished top down run and gun goodnes...

Re: Retro gaming
Great, glad you're enjoying it! I do have the VC version but I've put plenty of time into that collection on PSP. Playing it on a handheld comes with it's own charm

Re: Retro gaming
Oh I know, my point was more that it loses a little something on the small screen. Worth playing any way you can of course but it looks amazing on a CRT and I know Suits has that PVM sat there...Magical_Isopod wrote: ↑May 8th, 2020, 6:34 pm
The original is on that PSP disc, it just requires playing a couple levels from the remake first.

Re: Retro gaming
Nice pickups! Have you played Rondo before? If not, I'd definitely recommend playing one of the original releases first if you can (the Wii VC version is fantastic). It's surprisingly cinematic and really benefits from being played on a TV. What a great package that release is though for PSP and tha...

Re: Videogame News
I totally get that, my issue is that if you're going to ask the player to spend 20+ hours with your game, then the primary method of gameplay interaction should reach a minimum quality threshold... I completely understand this criticism, you're certainly not the only to be put off by the combat! Fo...

Re: Videogame News
It should also be said that we were still within a year of the release of Gears of War so the concept of a third person cover shooter was also still fairly novel, even if Mass Effect's action elements were clearly inferior

Re: Videogame News
I don't know about "outdated design choices", but all I can say is that I found the movement and combat in ME1 & 2 to be atrociously bad even when they first came out. Bad enough to put me off the series entirely, although to be fair, I'm probably not the target audience to begin with...

Re: Videogame News
Yeah, that's definitely true. A lot of the dialogue boils down to lore/world building too which was new and exciting first time round, less so when you already know it all.

Re: Videogame News
I don't think it's ridiculous at all, in Mass Effect's case I think I agree. As much as I loved 2, it lost some of the nerdy, hard sci flavour of the original in favour of a more cinematic experience. They're both great games but there's something about the atmosphere of ME1 that it's sequels didn't...

Re: Videogame News
I played the original again on PC not so long ago and thought it held up fine, still looks great graphically too. It was never stunning in the gameplay department but it's decent enough. Anyone who has even a little tolerance for older games I think would be more or less fine going back to it. The a...

Re: Your Favourite Game! (per console)
Alright, here goes... C64 : Elite - Ported to everything, this is the version I played. Captured my imagination like nothing else, even if i was too young to properly play it. Amiga : Syndicate - I felt like I was doing something illegal playing this as an 8 year old. NES : Castlevania 3 - 8 bit mas...

Re: Final Fantasy VII Remake
Thanks, it does sting a little! Still a miracle it exists at all though and if nothing else it's given me some cracking music that I'll listen to for years to come. Could have been worse

Re: Final Fantasy VII Remake
FF7 had a profound effect on me when it released in 1997. I was 11 years old and it sparked a love and fascination with Japanese media and culture that defined my early teenage years. Like many others it also opened my eyes to a genre that I'd overlooked in the 8/16 bit era. I wouldn't count it amon...

I'd be more than happy to take this off your hands if it's still going? Let me know if you want anything for it, I was fully intending to buy the game anyway!

Re: Games Completed 2020
How far do you typically get on 1 credit if you start from the beginning? Typically? Not far! Stage 2 and in particular 3, are incredibly difficult and if you lose a life you're basically done for. If I do get beyond that, 4 is the weird into the screen stage that is actually quite easy (relatively...

Re: Games Completed 2020
Thanks! Don't drive yourself mad trying to clear Gradius III, by the way. The arcade version is famously unbalanced. Oh it's absolutely nuts...but I like it. Never played the SNES version but I do come back to this one every now and again before inevitably losing the will to continue! The stage sel...

Re: Games Completed 2020
17-4 Gradius (NES) It only took me, what, 30 years of on and off play to finally get this done without cheats. Also, after watching it back I can confirm it was a no death clear! 😊 https://www.twitch.tv/videos/594948798 Congrats man! Sorry I missed it. I've gone back to Gradius 3 a little this week...

Re: Games Completed 2020
One thing you might not be aware of with Fable Anniversary was that Lionhead didn’t do much of the work on it, it was mostly outsourced, especially on the art remastering. I think the only in house engineering work was adding the achievements to it. We were all making Fable the Journey and Fable Le...

Re: Games Completed 2020
As with all things it could purely be down to personal preference of course. Bit I STILL think you'd be surprised how rough this game looks in motion on an original Xbox. Even hooked up to a CRT as I have it, that usually helps to mask visual flaws, I think it still looks bad. Side by side with any ...
