Re: Mario Kart 8 DX game night - 29/12/21 8pm GMT

Silver lining to being stuck home rebounding from COVID? I'm working remotely and I'll be able to hop on for a round or two (or three) tomorrow, despite being in a different time zone 8-)

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Finally pulled the trigger on AC: Valhalla . I've been up and down on the AC games (mostly up) but I could not get into Odyssey for the life of me. I tried to convince myself that I was enjoying it, probably have like 30-40 hours of playtime, but the whole thing was a struggle. I don't know what it ...

Sounds very cool!
Time zone stuff may be tough considering I'm in the US, but I'll give it a shot!

Re: Videogame Deals

Just snagged Saints Row IV on Switch for £2.40 on the eShop. Thanks to Kurt for the heads up! Same! I haven't played a Saint's Row since the 2nd one, but at this price it's worth a shot Yeah I was put off this one by how silly the series had got with its super powers and stuff, but for £2 even if I...

I'd be interested in C&R covering the Ys series

Re: Books completed (and general book talk)

I just finished Those Across the River by Christopher Buehlman and loved it. It's my favorite book I've read this year. 1930s Southern US town vs evil in the woods type of deal. If you're into fun horror/monster romps, I highly recommend it. Then I tried his vampire book, The Lesser Dead , and quit ...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

picked up Donut County on Switch last night out of nowhere, saw it was under $4 and thought I'd pull the trigger. I only played it for about an hour or so last night in bed, and I liked what I played. A pastel-colored, soothing anti- Katamari . If it's relaxing the whole time, excellent, if it ramps...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Just started Final Fantasy IX on Switch. I hear it's not the best version, but hey, any port in the storm. I'm not entirely sure what made me pick it up, it wasn't even on sale. And I've never been a JRPG fan, Octopath Traveler and Final Fantasy Tactics are the only ones I've ever completed (does FF...

Re: Books completed (and general book talk)

Just finished The Heroes by Joe Abercrombie. This is the 4th book I’ve read by him (first 3 being the first law trilogy) and I think he may be one of my favorite fantasy writers. I don’t often talk books so I don’t know how well regarded Abercrombie is (I do know he’s pretty famous in the genre) but...

Re: Nintendo GameCube

If you lived in my apartment in 2006, you would be forgiven for thinking that the only two games ever released for the GameCube were Smash and Resident Evil 4 . Smash for me and my guests, Resi 4 for my roommate to play to completion no less than five times in a row that year. Were there other relea...

Re: Videogame News

I think the graphics have been touched up quite nicely, personally. I wasn't expecting the games to be running in the GTA V engine or anything like that. More than happy with this. Agreed. I'll definitely be picking it up (once it goes on sale, my back log is too deep to justify any full price purc...

Re: Videogame News

So ConcernedApe's new game was just announced, Haunted Chocolatier . What do you guys think? I like the concept, but honestly I couldn't help but feel disappointed watching the reveal. It looks exactly like Stardew Valley . Don't get me wrong, I absolutely adore Stardew Valley , I've spent many many...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Anyway, if you liked Hotline Miami, I urge you to play this. I completed Katana Zero where I bounced off Hotline Miami. I back up Kurt's recommendation. Good enough for me. I love the original Hotline Miami (and like the 2nd), but that itch hasn't been scratched in a long time. Adding Katana Zero t...

The recent remaster finally got me to complete this. Really holds up, some great level design!
I'm about 1/2 way through the first campaign myself. I'm pleasantly surprised to see how well it's holding up and I'm enjoying it quite a bit more than I expected to.

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I've recently jumped into the the Ys series with both feet. Picked up Ys Origins a few weeks ago on sale, enjoyed it quite a bit, bought Ys VIII and REALLY liked it, and am currently about an hour into Ys IX . The series gives me low budget Zelda vibes, but with better combat but worse everything el...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I'm about 3 hours into Ys: Origin and I'm enjoying it quite a bit so far. It was on sale for somewhere around $5 so I decided to give it a go, since the Ys series has always been a blind spot for me. I'm really enjoying the combat, and the story/writing is just self-serious and stuffy enough for me ...

Re: Whatcha Been Watching?

Just Watched The Green Knight, it's really good. If you wanna watch a interesting retelling of a medieval morality tale definitely check it out. I've been waiting for this one. I feel like it's been a very long time since I've seen anything with a medieval setting in theaters, and I'm very much loo...
