Re: What's Out This Week?
Anyone had a chance to sit down with that One Piece RPG? I loved that series in my younger years, and a series revisit sounds like a lot of fun, but something about the trailers made it appear low-rent and grindy.

Re: Gaming predictions 2023
1. Nintendo releases basically nothing in 2023 while banking on Zelda alone. Also, they still do not patch the long list of 2022 releases pushed out the door before they were completed (including Pokemon Arceus and Scarlet/Violet) 2. Sony continues to coast on the success of the PS5, and continues i...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
Spent most of the day playing Tormented Souls , a 2022 Resident Evil-like that a few guys on the My Life In Gaming Discord were raving about. My God, fellas, this game is great. It's not some cheapo Steam indie game banking on nostalgia, this is a genuinely strong old school survival horror game tha...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
I want to love Pac-In-Time. I really do. But WOW did European programmers love slippery and oversensitive controls in the 90s. And weird physics. And insane difficulty. Been a while since I've been this frustrated with a game, and it's a shame too - because it actually seems like it could be a fanta...

Re: My 5 favourite and 1 least favourite games I've finished this year
My pet peeve is all the RPGs with long run times and a story that can't justify the run time. I can see why people could appreciate an RPG for the mechanics, but for me, without a strong story to drive the game forward, it a feels like a massive chore. I can excuse something like Xenoblade 3 where t...

Re: Games Completed 2023
#1 - Tekken 7 (2017, XB1) You know what's a wonderful feeling? When you can pick up the character you got really good with in college, and a whole decade later, without having touched the series, still remember some of his combos and specials. (Hworang, in my case. Hworang is my guy.) Yeah, I haven...

The 5 Best Games Released in 2022 (and the Most Disappointing)
Bonjour fellow Caners and Rinsers, I present to you, in reverse order, my 5 favourite games released in 2022: 5. Pokemon Scarlet While often feeling like a woefully unoptimized alpha build, Pokemon Scarlet still manages to present the most compelling single-player campaign the series has offered in ...

Re: Games Completed 2022
#20 - The Quarry (2022, PS5) Suitably enough after my Pokemon review, we have another game from a studio that tried to rush too many games out the door at once. In 2022, Supermassive decided, for whatever reason, that they would ship not only The Quarry and the fourth Dark Pictures game, but also s...

Re: Games Completed 2022
#19 - Pokemon Legends: Arceus (2022, Switch) Right, so in reviewing my list of games completed in 2022, I actually somehow managed to forget Pokemon Legends: Arceus. I finished it during my election campaign, and I somehow never got around to writing about it. I'll keep things brief, because it's b...

Re: My 5 favourite and 1 least favourite games I've finished this year
It was a zombie game that came out like 5 years after people were already tired of zombie games. I think that's the sole reason Days Gone flopped.

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
Played through the first hour-ish of Sonic Heroes. This game is FAR more interesting than Sonic Adventure 2 was... But I was kinda bored. Not frustrated, just wasn't really grabbing me. Also started up Flipnic on PS2... That one, I had trouble putting down. XD This game is absolutely deranged for a ...

Re: My 5 favourite and 1 least favourite games I've finished this year
2022 is not quite over, and I plan on doing a 2022 GOTY list on the 31st. :P But of all the games I played this year, I think my top 5 looks like this... 1. TAKE. CONTROL. 2. The Chant 3. Quantum Break (why do people hate this game????) 4. Sonic Frontiers 5. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Dar...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
Been playing Yokai Watch and The Quarry. Both are great, and both are interesting but opposite takes on horror. Yokai Watch is the comfy Pokemon-like I've been wanting for years, and I'm disappointed with myself for overlooking it this long. XD It resonates with me a lot, because even though it's ve...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
After finishing Sonic Frontiers, I gave Sonic Adventure 2 a shot... I know this game is beloved by a lot of folks, so I won't be too rough on it, but this has absolutely not aged well. Steam version looks and runs great, but yeah. Between the goofy music choices, the lousy controls, the awful, awful...

Re: Games Completed 2022
#18 - Sonic Frontiers (2022, PS5) Really great game! I was prepared to dismiss this game as 2022's laughing stock... A 3D Sonic game copying Breath of the Wild? Sounded like a joke. However, Sonic Frontiers is not that. At all. In marketing, the game was described as "open zone" game desi...

Re: PS2 recommendations
So PS2 is an interesting beast because a lot of its best games have superior versions on other consoles. Usually remasters. .hack//GU is a prime example. I actually struggle to recommend the PS2 version, because not only is it absurdly expensive, but it also chopped up what really should have been a...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
Started Sonic Frontiers. Mostly liking it, which is odd because I don't like 3D Sonic or open world games. But they've stumbled upon a brilliant formula by combining the two - Sonic nyooming around big spaces and solving navigation puzzles with stylish obstacle courses jsut works. That being said, t...

Re: Games Completed 2022
#17 - Xenoblade Chronicles 3 (2022, Switch) The biggest game I played this year is finally over, and my feeling is a resounding "meh". Xenoblade 3, to be clear, is a very good game. If you are playing it strictly for the combat, the world building, the music, that stuff... You'll be a hap...

Re: Games Completed 2022
That's really weird as here in the UK it's technically a budget release at £50 RRP. That's not just a good deal I found either, that's the standard price. Even the digital edition on the PS Store is £54.99 That's quite bizarre. I've noticed when buying online, new/sealed games imported from the UK ...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
Wound up dropping Soul Hackers 2. The gameplay was fantastic, but the story just wasn't going anywhere. This is a consistent problem I've found with nearly every Atlus RPG - the sole exception being Digital Devil Saga. The story has a strong premise, but it never really goes anywhere interesting. Th...
