Re: Games Completed 2019

20th April - Sekiro. The six hours I spent on the final boss make me question whether I am wasting the precious gift of life.

Re: Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

Finished. After struggling with the early game, I got into the groove and made it through the rest of the game without major trouble. It's tough but fair. That final boss though.....It must have taken me about 6 hours and I was getting blisters by the end of it. It's such a long fight, there are so ...

Re: Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

I just beat a boss in Sekiro at the top of a castle. It was very difficult, but I like a good boss fight and that was one of the best and most exhilarating boss fights I've had. Fighting Sigrun in God of War is the closest I've had in the past year, although I have high hopes for DMC5 when I finally...

Re: Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

It really gets more fun once you get to the castle. You've got more freedom to explore. You've got a bit more health and a few more healing gourds. It means you can relax a bit and experiment a bit more with combat strategies. You can go for longer runs before you have to retreat back to a shrine. I...

Re: Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

Stanshall - I beat Gyubou first, so I got my first power up from him.
Absolutely storming now. It's just like you said about it opening up after the blazing bull fight.

Re: Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

Butterfly is down. Repeat: Butterfly is down.
My hands are slick with sweat and I think I might now have arthritis, but she is DOWN.

Re: Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

I spent another hour failing to beat LB then went back for a shot of Gyubou. He was a piece of piss compared to LB. Once I realised I could parry all his attacks, he went down like a punk.

Re: Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

I'm close to giving up now as well. I'm still on Butterfly. Can beat the first stage consistently, but get flustered in second stage with all the mooks and magic. Will probably beat it tonight.....but I've already spent 3 or 4 hours on this one boss. That's crazy. I don't have that much free time. M...

Re: Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

On a side note: this feels very different to Dark Souls. For me, Bloodborne wasn't that different to Souls in terms of game mechanics. This feels markedly different. I wouldn't put it in the same "genre" as the Soulsborne games - which is good, because it spares us from having to call them...

Re: Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

Bit of a "proper boss" roadblock at the end of two paths for me. Lady Butterfly and Gyubou (?) The Demon. (Horseback dude) I'm gradually chipping away at Butterfly, but it's very protracted because I can usually only get one hit in after I dodge one of her combo finishers. If I slip up the...

Re: Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

Finally beat that ogre f***er! If you lure him out, you can stealth him for a whole health bar.

Re: Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

I am pants at this. Have died about twenty times to "chained ogre". I need to set aside a solid few consecutive hours to really get into it.

Hi guys, not sure if this is the right place, but I just wanted to say thanks to you for the amazing Breath of the Wild Pod. As you'll have gathered, it's a game that is really special to me and I think you definitely did it justice with your discussion. It was great to hear everyone's experiences a...

Re: Our next Final Fantasy podcast recording (13.4.19) - 365: Final Fantasy IX

I remember being very dismissive of FFIX when it was first released. The only FF games I had played at that point were VII and VIII which had a more mature, gritty feel to them with eco terrorists in the Blade runner-esque Midgar in VIIa and the moody teen mercenaries in VIII. When the first images ...

Re: Our next podcast recording (16.3.19) - 361: Dark Souls III

I spent more time on this game and enjoyed it more than any other game released in 2016, but I have surprisingly little to say about it as an individual game. The Souls games (plus Bloodborne) offer a gaming experience that no one other than From have really been able to replicate. The first time I ...

Re: Our next podcast recording (9.2.19) - 356: NieR:Automata

I bought Nier Automata a few months after release. The game was getting a lot of positive buzz and there was the suggestion that they were doing something different: that this game was unique in the kind of story it was telling and the themes it was covering. I remember that The Guardian had an arti...

Re: All things Golden Axe

Just playing through this on the megadrive classics collection. First time I've touched it for....25 years? Probably. It's very good and much tougher than I remember. The enemy AI is simple, but very effective. They will ALWAYS try to flank you and if there is any distance between you then they will...

Re: 360: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Apologies to Leon by the way. I understand if all that is too long to include in a podcast. I'm sure there will be a lot of people who have a lot of things to say about this game - including criticisms. There is some sort of satisfaction just in having written my thoughts down, even if it doesn't ma...

Re: 360: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Breath of the Wild is an utterly glorious game and one of my favourite games of all time. The main wonder of the game comes from the combination of the core mechanics and the game world itself. You very quickly realise that you have two defining abilities from very early on. First, the ability to cl...

Thanks for the tip about "High Score Girl"! Have just watched the first episode. Love the gaming trivia. Looking forward to seeing what other titles they cover.
