Re: Games Completed 2022

The scariest thing about The Callisto Protocol is its price. Games are normally $89.99 here in Canada, which is already way too much for games in an industry with aggressive monetization, but The Callisto Protocol has the single most expensive standard edition, with a price tag of $93.49.

Re: Videogame News

Transformers Reactivate looked pretty awesome... then I read it's an online multiplayer shooter for 1-4 players. Ummmmmm. The concept of a Transformer revived by humans to defend them from something that's NOT the Deceptions sounds cool from a story perspective. Armored Core 6 trailer looked amazin...

Re: Videogame News

So what were everyone's highlights from the Video Game Awards? For me it was Judas from Ken Levine's new studio, even if it does look very much like Bioshock. Then there is Earthblade, the next game from the Celeste team, looks like a metroidvania this time around. I thought the show was pretty mid...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

The PC version received a patch that fixed some of the frame stuttering, but I think a lot of the gameplay issues are not something a patch can resolve. I was cautiously optimistic for this one, but after watching reviews and gameplay, I kinda feel like we have another George Lucas situation where t...

Re: Games Completed 2022

The Chant sounds interesting, thanks for the recommendation. I like short games and ones set near my home :) Just finished Resident Evil Revelations on the 3DS and had a great time with it. Just a solid, action oriented, Resident Evil game. The setting of the cruise liner was claustrophobic and the...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I started up Soul Hackers 2 and played about 2 hours. I like a lot about it so far. Very much a "back to basics" combat system in a good way; it's classic turn-based fare, and I've been desperate for one of these. The art style is fantastic too. The main character has jacket with triangula...

Re: Games Completed 2022

#16 - The Chant (PS5, 2022) Well this game came out of freaking nowhere and impressed the heck outta me. The Chant is a Canadian-made horror game created by former developers from Rockstar Vancouver (Bully) and United Front Games (Sleeping Dogs). This game had absolutely no press, and I only know o...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I've been playing The Devil In Me... Don't buy this game. I LOVE the Dark Pictures games. House of Ashes was my 2021 GOTY. I even love this game's story. But this game has some serious technical problems. To the degree that my friend and I could not advance past a certain part without a character dy...

Re: What's Out This Week?

Midnight Suns? That snuck up, haven't seen anything about it since the delay! Hoping it's good. Reviews I've seen cite great gameplay but deplorable story, writing and character development. Generally recommended with a, "If you're here for mechanics, play it, if you're here for story, skip it...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I've been playing The Chant on PS5, and I gotta say, this game is FANTASTIC. If you're jonesing for a survival horror that dives into pretty damned unique subject matter (new age cults and enemies fought with burning sage), give this one a go. This is not a AAA title, but it sure as hell feels like ...

Re: Games Completed 2022

#15 - Pokemon Scarlet (2022, Switch) Hoo boy, this game. It's a mess, but I enjoyed it a lot. The Cufant in the room is that this game runs like ass and looks like shit. Both of these things are absolutely true. The framerate is completely unstable, texture and asset pop-in reminds me of Mass Effec...

Re: What's Out This Week?

Cautiously optimistic for The Devil In Me. Not terribly impressed with the price hike - $40 was the right price for this type of game. $55 is a significant price hike. With The Quarry being $90(!), I may start buying these games a bit less frequently. I wasn't going to play Pokemon this Gen, but I h...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Been playing the heck outta Xenoblade 3 whilst fighting a nasty bout of depression. Might pick up another game to avoid the feeling of monotony a bit... Perhaps Sonic Mania, which I still have not played through with Mighty (my favourite Sonic character, as I've loved armadillo since childhood). Xen...

Re: Videogame News

FYI folks, Pokemon Gen 9 leaks are coming out like an atom bomb, and the full ROM has leaked online. If you want to avoid spoilers, might wanna stay off Twitter for a bit. That being said, a lot of the new Pokemon are great - some are awful, too - and there's some fun new mechanical changes that sho...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

This isn't a what you been playing as I haven't played it yet but was wondering if anyone had played Rollerdrome and what you thought of it? I saw it on sale on Steam and wanting to hear some thoughts on it. The coverage I have seen suggests that it's a really great game, but concurrent player coun...

Re: Our next console special podcast recording (20.11.22): Nintendo Wii U

I distinctly remember when I bought my WiiU... It was late 2015, I had just moved to a new city for a new job, and it was a holiday long weekend. I was cash-strapped, but I needed groceries, and the only store open was Shoppers Drug Mart, which is a Canadian pharmacy chain that also carries a limite...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I liked RE7, and I wasn't thrilled with RE8, specifically because 8 goes harder into goofy action stuff like RE4 did. And Resi 4 is not a bad game by any means - I just prefer the sluggish, brooding RE of... Well, like RE7. :P So I think there are definitely a lot of people that will pass on RE7 and...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Played the first 4ish hours of Xenoblade 3 last night. I was worried at the start - MAN does this one have a lousy intro act. I was worried it was gonna be yet another military academy story, which is an anime cliché that has been far too overused since the 2010s. Luckily, it subverted that about ar...

Re: What's Out This Week?

I'm kind of excited for Sonic Frontiers. Not because I think it'll be good, but because of how I know several streamers I watch will play it and dunk on it. Someone needs to smack Sega in the head, point to Sonic Mania, and explain why 3D Sonic is a waste of time.
