Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
After skipping the PS4 and Xbox1 entirely (in favour of Switch) I must admit I'm kinda tempted to get a Series S. $24.99 a month for 24 months seems like a pretty incredible deal given that it includes Game Pass.... I'm very out of the loop with the modern AAA scene, but Halo Infinite and Forza Hori...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
Hotshot Racing Feel a bit torn about this one. I've been waiting for this exact kind of game (throwback early PS1-era over the top arcade racer) for the longest time, and it's a solidly made little game. I really want to love it, but something just feels a bit 'off' about the gameplay compared to t...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread
Apparently I set up Google Authenticator on my eshop profile a while back (I have zero memory of doing this, might have been when there was that data breach). Since then I have also upgraded my phone, and the codes I generate do not work, so now I am locked out of my account and cannot sign in or bu...

Re: Whatcha Been Watching?
Extra Ordinary Kinda meh Irish supernatural comedy. Really nicely filmed for what I presume was a pretty low budget and it definitely has its moments but the performances are patchy, script is a little weak and the hit rate of the jokes is very hit and miss. Lots of people try to emulate the Shaun ...

Re: Whatcha Been Watching?
The Many Saints of Newark Watchable but rather aimless and plodding story with surprisingly weak, one-note characterisation and heavy handed symbolism. Almost entirely lacking in the humour, strangeness and beautifully captured sense of the mundane that made The Sopranos so compelling. Wouldn't rec...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread
The N64 occupies a weird place in that it's probably the retro console that I have the most nostalgia and affection for, but I don't really have any desire to revisit any of its games. Even Mario 64 can be a bit of a pig to play nowadays.

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread
Even as a die hard Nintendo apologist, the price of the 'Expansion Pack' is utterly ludicrous. I would have grudgingly accepted an additional $5 or $10, but a 150% increase is absurd for what they are offering. Tempted to just cancel my current sub in protest - I don't play online, and despite the i...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread
Yeah, I personally would have much preferred Game Boy and GBA titles. The GBA in particular is a treasure trove of games that aren't widely available outside of emulation. Though I have a huge amount of nostalgia for the N64, I can't say I'm eager to revisit many of the games. I already have Mario 6...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread
Chris Pratt strikes me as an odd casting choice for Mario... But then again a Mario movie isn't an especially great idea in the first place. Part of me was wondering if they'd try and have Mario be a non-speaking* protagonist, but that would have admittedly been very tricky to do. I'm really not a f...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread
Nintendo Direct at 3pm PST today, so 11pm GMT. I'm assuming it will almost all be about Metroid Dread, Advance Wars RC, Pokemon and Mario Party Superstars. But I also think they will announce at least Game Boy titles coming to Switch Online and I think we are finally going to get a title reveal for ...

Re: Whatcha Been Watching?
Slowly working our way through Ted Lasso season 2. It's definitely a lot patchier than the sublime first season and seems to be really lacking a strong throughline to the story. They also seem to be struggling with balancing the disparate tones as successfully as season 1 did. The most recent episod...

Re: Let's rank our top 5 Pixar films for no reason at all
I think it's fair to say that their quality control has slipped quite a bit in recent years, but the level of quality of those first 6 or so films would have been impossible to sustain.

Re: Let's rank our top 5 Pixar films for no reason at all
I thought Onward was a neat concept in search of a decent story.
Really disliked the aesthetic of that one, especially the character designs. Felt like a lower tier Dreamworks animation in that respect.

Re: Let's rank our top 5 Pixar films for no reason at all
What disappointed me most other than there being too many new characters in Toy Story 4 was I just didn’t think it was very funny, it wasn’t an age thing as I can still laugh at the previous films today. I can only think of one scene which raised a slight chuckle and that was one with Key and Peele...

Re: Let's rank our top 5 Pixar films for no reason at all
Key & Peele were great (as they are in everything) but their characters didn't really have any bearing on the story and could have easily been cut without it affecting the plot. Same goes for the Keanu Reeves' Evel Kenieval character. I'm glad they're there, but they feel a little extraneous in ...

Re: Let's rank our top 5 Pixar films for no reason at all
They've got an impressive amount of mileage out of essentially doing the same 'rescue/toys venturing out into the real world' plot four times.

Re: Let's rank our top 5 Pixar films for no reason at all
I don't get the Toy Story 4 hate. I was very skeptical going in, but I thought they managed to craft a story that found new ideas and new things to say in the same old concept. My only criticism was that it was maybe a little overstuffed with new characters. My Top 5 would basically be Toy Story 1, ...

Re: Board/Card Games - The obligatory "analogue" gaming thread
As I understand it, the original Kill Team was a scaled-down version of 40k, but this new edition (while sharing a few core mechanics will 40k) has been built from the ground up to be its own game. You can play 'casual' one-off games but also play as part of a longer campaign where each model gains ...
