Re: Games completed 2016
I missed the crucial 'U' from your previous post! Funnily enough, SMG is what got me back into gaming after pretty much skipping the PS2 gen. I can still remember the excitement of waiting for it to arrive and it blew me away. 2 was such a fantastic refinement, far better than it needed to be or tha...

Re: Games completed 2016
I'd say that the Galaxy games are the high points of the series, so you've got some great gaming to look forward to. Wonderful bite sized chunks of design and imagination, as economical as almost anything I've played yet with more ideas in one level than some publishers manage in a year.

Re: The Monster Hunter Generations
Woke in the middle of the night, took the digital plunge when I couldn't get back to sleep, played about seven hours today, I haven't done that with anything since MGSV. Now I get it. Also glad that there is actually a lock on and a million other mechanics which weren't obvious or included in the de...

Re: Videogame News
Correct me if I'm wrong but Oz has a funny relationship with games at the best of times, doesn't it? Plenty of stuff never gets released over there and plenty more gets banned and censored from what I understand. A curiously conservative society. On the other hand, I do think we have a problem with ...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
I've been really enjoying The Witness over the last couple of nights. I'm about 89 panels down, and seem to have hit a total brick wall though. Every panel I come across has weird rules that I just haven't been taught. Symbols and stuff, and different shapes, I had no idea how to solve them and hav...

Monster Hunter
As a new 3DS owner and massive Souls fan, I'd love to understand the appeal of Monster Hunter. I'm thinking of picking up the new one, sounds like it's accessible but I don't quite 'get it' even having played a demo of Generations. I understand that crafting and preparation is a big part of the game...

Re: The Sony news and discussion thread
In some crucial ways, that's my favourite Souls hub. The music isn't quite as atmospheric as Demon's, nor the depressive comfort blanket of Firelink, and it's not quite as homely as the Dream but it's where I would choose to spend my last days, staring out on that tarry sea, surrounded by my compani...

Re: The Sony news and discussion thread
For all the excitement around Salt & Sanctuary, it turned out to be quite poor. 2D Souls with that art style seems like a really sure thing but I found myself pushing through only in the hope it would improve. It's not anywhere near Scholar of the First Sin. You may have also heard that the DLC ...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
Battlefield 4. I never really played it way back when but saw it was on sale which reminded me I own it. Never did much besides the Campaign, oddly enough, just thought I was too late for multiplayer. Anyway, thought I'd get on board with the new wave of noobs and I'm really really enjoying it. It's...

Re: E3 2016 - Conference times, news and hype (!)
I heard from a mate whose mate works at Rockstar (I would be rolling my eyes at this point too, if I were you) that the next Red Dead game was meant to close the Sony presentation but as it featured an extended shoot out in a bar they decided to pull it, after tragic events of late. I scoffed anyway...

Re: E3 2016 - Conference times, news and hype (!)
I don't own a Wii U but the Ghibli vibe of that poster/title screen has me more excited than anything other than the ludicrous title of Kojima's new game.

Re: E3 2016 - Conference times, news and hype (!)
Foxx could barely muster anything beyond mild contempt. You took the handful of silver, now mug like you mean it. At least Efron had done a bit of beak or something to placate the EA paymasters.

Re: E3 2016 - Conference times, news and hype (!)
I found last year to be the most exciting E3 of my adult life, and possibly ever. Maybe because I was a bit out of the loop but Sony dropped one surprise after another, escalating every hour. So, there's nothing I'm particularly expecting but I think that's a decent enough mindset to enjoy whatever ...

Re: All things The Witcher
I never quite finished the main vanilla quest and only touched on HoS but got back into this for B&W and I'm just going to polish off the Wild Hunt and get into it. Great first hour though and it looks better than ever. It's quite hard to know exactly how I feel about the game, traversal and com...

Re: All things Uncharted
Well, I've just finished Uncharted 4. I thought the previous games were repetitive and mechanically dull but visually rich and atmospheric. This blows them out of the water on every level. In terms of artistic and environmental design, this might be the highest achievement in the history of games. T...

Re: Dark Souls I, II and III
No spoilers from me, either, but my experience with the Japanese PS4 version puts this right up there. It'll be hard to say it's my favourite because you only get your first Dark Souls experience once, but it's the most consistent and 'successful' Souls game. For the first time, it feels like they a...
