Re: The Street Fighter thread

Dipped my toe into online last night and got absolutely smashed 17-0 by someone who actually knows how to use Ryu.

Still think I learned a couple of things though so it's not all bad!

I'll post my Fighter ID later and hopefully a few of us in the community can have some games.

Re: The Street Fighter thread

Sod it, I'm buying it - played a bit more of the demo last night and it's just too much fun.

Anyone else bar Michiel playing this? Be nice to set up a Cane and Rinse group if there's a few of us.

Re: The Street Fighter thread

Normally I would've bought at launch this but I really struggled with the demo on my Series S with regards to the D-Pad. Diagonals didn't seem to regster at all and the only semi-decent third party controller (the Hori OctoPad) has pretty scathing reviews of its own D-Pad. Too skint for a fight stic...

Re: What's Out This Week?

SF6 and Diablo IV would be day one purchases normally but they'll have to wait a bit longer until I've had my fill of TOTK.

May make an exception for SF6 as the beta ran flawlessly and it'll be great to dip in and out of.

So I've put about 15 hours into this and have barely left Central Hyrule.

Re: A thread of the greatest game mechanics of all time...

No idea what the first game was to introduce this but for the love of god - LET ME WRITE ON THE MAP. It adds so much to the experience and can save hours of frustration. Really personalises the experience too. I must be 80 hours in to Divinity Original Sin 2 and never realised you could do this. :l...

Re: A thread of the greatest game mechanics of all time...

Z-Targeting (The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time) Too many of my favourite games use this method - it blew my mind when I first played Ocarina of Time (which I think was the first game to introduce it?). Hard to imagine how most FROM games would work without it. Adaptive Difficulty (Resident Evil ...

Re: The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

My own pet peeve so far is having to attach a brightbulb to an arrow every single time I want to fire one - am I missing something? To fire an arrow or do light up a brightbulb? If the latter you can just throw a brightbulb on the ground and hit it with your weapon and it will light up. It's to fir...

Re: The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

I honestly never understood people saying BOTW felt 'empty' - always felt like there was something to do/see/interact with over the next hill, doubly so in this game. Using the Fuse ability has negated a lot of my issues with weapon durability - weapons seem to last at least double (sometimes triple...

Re: The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Decided to go with the Pro HUD for TOTK (used the standard one for BOTW) and I'm really glad I did - seems much more immersive.

Re: The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

As soon as I can - it's the sequel to possibly my favourite ever game and I've just finished the RE4 Remake! Unfortunately the delay in release has typically clashed with a weekend where I've got a lot of tedious 'adult' things to do like a theatre visit tonight and my girlfriend's dad's birthday di...

Re: Games Completed 2023

RE4 Remake It's pretty great but I think I still prefer the original. Combat is fantastic . Many sequences are changed for the better (discovering the Garrador was a highlight). Ashley is much more bearable (although I do miss "Leon! Help!"). Graphically it's a stunner. Flashlight sequenc...

Re: Games Completed 2023

The Ninja Saviours: Return of the Warriors (Switch) It finally clicked for me other a year or so of playing it on and off and I managed to get past the first boss - everything after that (bar the end boss) seemed much more doable (and fun). Never played it back in the day but ended up really liking...

Re: Videogame News

Sad to see the response to Redfall from both critics and gamers alike - I thought this would be a great title considering the developer behind it and hoped it would be my groups next big co-op game.

Ah well! Let's hope it's a Sea of Thieves situation and in a year or so it's a belter.

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Adore Bangai-O Spirits - think it actually may be my favourite DS game. It is pretty amazing alright even if it can be bonkers in its difficulty sometime. Makes me want to try out the Dreamcast original someday. It's one of the few games in existence where the slowdown is welcomed, if not desirable.

Re: Resident Evil 4 (2023)

Played a bit more of this and really getting into it now - they've really managed to nail the tension and anxiety I felt when playing the original for the first time. Still struggling with the parry though - not mechanically, I just panic when a villager or monster gets that close and try to empty a...

Re: Resident Evil 4 (2023)

I've only played for a short while - I'm up to the lake monster. Seems pretty good so far - it looks cracking, shooting feels satisfying and I like how they've changed little things here and there to keep you on your toes. My main gripe is that it's far too similar to the RE2 Remake - namely the inv...
