Re: I love it in games when...
One thing I like that I suspect most hate is a good 'in medias res' opening. Monkey Island 2 is the most silly and extreme version of it, but even subtler ones like the first God of War are fun. I also quite like it when you have a playable prologue before the music swells and the games logo appears...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
Just finished the last few quests in Dragon's Dogma. Have you 'finished' finished it, or just got to the credits? I'm playing Saints Row 4, which is pretty obvious in it's origins as a DLC for the third game, but is so silly and fun of pop culture references I'm willing to forgive it's massive asse...

Shame, but there's no point doing it if you're mostly ambivalent towards it.

Re: This week's podcast: L.A. Noire
The arc of it's plot seemed a little weird to me. Having you... ...essentially get promoted to the 'best' role in the precinct (homicide) and then get bumped out of it after solving one of the most notorious cases of all time before even reaching the games halfway point... ...killed all of the momen...

Re: Edge - Top 10 Consoles
A lot of the ordering of a list like this comes from what criteria they're using to justify the positions. For example, if you were to make a list of 'most important' then I'd have a hard time arguing for any other number one than the original PlayStation, which changed the entire target market.

Re: Game suggestions for the podcast
Thought about doing the Dynasty Warriors series? I'd say 7 would be the one to concentrate on, but there's plenty of spin offs and related series to talk about if you want to go 'wide'.

Re: I'll tell you what your DLC needs... an empty tin case!
The special edition of 'The Last Story' on the Wii was the same. Inside the box you get the game in a normal Wii case, and an empty steelbook case to put the disc in if you feel like changing it up... I do remember when getting a steelbook case was the ONLY difference between the normal and special ...

I always thought of Conrad as being French Canadian when I played the original game. No idea why.

Going to have to spoiler this... please don't read this if you've not finished it... It's strange how by the end of the game you feel you actually know all of these people fairly well, except for Katie herself. Sure, you know she's very sporty and also academically gifted, but there's no hint as to ...

Re: This week's podcast: Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy
Fahrenheit is one of those games that I tend to think of as being a 'glorious failure'. The opening sections of the game, with you playing as both the criminal and the cops trying to track him down were very clever indeed, but at some point they seem to have ran out of ideas for that and the game go...

Re: Book Recommendations
There are a lot of 'broad history' books on the games industry, but not so many on very specific topics. One's that I've read: Masters of Doom - David Kushner - About John Carmack and John Romero, written as a narrative but is the product of lots of interviews. A lot of people have called into quest...

Re: Xbox One
The accents in Switzerland are very distinct though (especially the dialect of French they speak in the South West around Geneva), could easily cause it a problem. I get the impression that Sony's strategy is going to cause more annoyance here though. MS are going to be able to get decent stock into...

Hi, I'm Flabyo, known in the real world as Glen. I probably met some of you at GPlex this year, and you've heard a couple of three word reviews from me on the podcast. I used to be a senior coder in the AAA games industry, where I worked on simulation and AI for the Fable series amongst other things...

Re: The C&R football thread - armchairs & plastics welcome ;
Decent start for Forest so far... although I think like most Forest fans I'll settle for a decent run at the playoffs and none of the off pitch crazy of last season... Got a bad run of games now though against all the teams I expect to be contesting for the promotion positions, so we'll see just how...

Re: The videogame music thread - share your favourite tunes
I have plenty I could post here, I do love my game music. I usually always go with this one first these days though whenever I see a thread like this... It's everything I love about excessively over the top Japanese game music in a single track. Give it time, it sounds like it's just going to loop b...
