Re: Volume Eight
I've been periodically spying on the "podcast discussion" section to see if there was going to be a list of games for this year, but I only just spotted this thread. D'oh! Looks like a great selection of games. Maybe I'll have to finally finish Monkey Island 2. Am I imagining that there is...

Re: Our next Final Fantasy podcast recording (16.2.19) - Issue 357: Final Fantasy VIII
I bought FFVIII second hand when I was at uni. All our games were second hand then of course and bought to play on the second hand and communally owned PlayStation that I shared with my flatmates at the time. One of my memories related to the game is being slightly tipsy at a party and having a mock...

Re: Our next podcast recording (8.12.18) - 349: Resident Evil 7: Biohazard (Biohazard 7: Resident Evil)
I don't do well with horror. I feel periodically drawn to it, but I get scared very easily. A few years ago, I thought I should watch a horror movie at Halloween and tried The Woman In Black with Daniel Radcliffe. I thought it would be relatively mild because it had Harry Potter in it. I had nightma...

Re: Hollow Knight
I've only played the Switch version. Feels like one of those games that works really well on that platform.

Re: Hollow Knight
James - I found the White Palace and the true final boss very difficult and I died a LOT of times, but I really loved this game and I wanted to get all the way to the finish. I know that Dark Souls comparisons are overused, but this is the game that has given me closest to the same feeling of challe...

Re: Hollow Knight
Ooh, it's complicated. I played through the game clean, but I used a guide for the extra bits after I beat the Hollow Knight. The basic thing is that you need to level up your dream needle by fighting the optional ghost bosses including the super tough rematches against some of the main bosses. Even...

LoL to the Baboon Baron for the Crystal Skull comparison! It's telling that several people commenting on this thread didn't actually manage to play through the whole game. You didn't miss much if you stopped. I played through to the end out of a morbid sense of curiosity and loyalty to the franchise...

Re: Hollow Knight
I would definitely recommend playing through the White Palace and facing off against the true final boss. It's undeniably tough, but it's worth it.

Re: Dark Souls I, II and III
I have realised that all of my sorcery and online play doesn't do anything to make the Bed of Chaos fight any less frustrating. Grr.

Re: Dark Souls I, II and III
Good luck with that horrendous castle filled with traps, Seansthomas! It's one of the most fiendishly frustrating sections of the game. I'm still having a whale of a time on my first online and sorcery play through. Summoning help for bosses makes a huge difference and the combination of that and be...

Re: Our next podcast recording (11.11.18) - 345: Ghouls ‘n Ghosts (Daimakaimura)
Ghouls N Ghosts! I had the megadrive version back in the day and played through multiple times. I had made previous attempts at Ghosts N Goblins and couldn't get past the first level, but this was a lot more manageable and accessible. This was still in the relatively early days of the megadrive and ...

Re: Dark Souls I, II and III
I finally have Dark Souls on the Switch! I'm delighted. It doesn't look substantially better than I remember it, but it's an amazing thing to be able to play it casually in hand held mode. I've started my first ever souls run as a caster, which is great fun. I've ordered a Solaire amiibo which is go...

Re: Dragonball FighterZ
I am a long-standing Dragon ball fan since the early 90s. This game is stunning to me. The amount of love and attention that Arc Systems have.put into this is just staggering. The vast majority of even basic attacks that each character uses are based on attacks they've made in the manga. That's befo...

Re: Alien: Isolation
This isn't just a good Alien game: it's the best entry in the entire Alien franchise after "Alien" and "Aliens".

Re: Gaming as a parent / raising little gamers
My older daughters are currently eight and ten. I've had an amazing time playing video games with them over the past few years. First "proper"game we played together was "Tearaway" on the PS4 which was so creative and just a joy to play. We have all really enjoyed the Switch whic...

Re: Our next Resident Evil podcast recording (13.10.18) - 341: Resident Evil 5 (Biohazard 5)
This is not a classic resident evil, but it is good fun. They reeally slipped into the campy end of the usual dynamic that the Resi games have between camp and horror. I think best just to appreciate it as a fun, but not particularly sophisticated ride. Not in any way scary and probably best remembe...

Re: Shovel Knight
Just finished my play through this week. I enjoyed it, but maybe not as much as some. I think my reaction was a bit muted because I've recently played through Hollow Knight which is one of the best games I've ever played. Now halfway through Spectre Knight's quest. Playing as Spectre Knight is a lot...

Re: Our next podcast recording (19.8.18) - 333: Valkyria Chronicles
This was a great wee game. I don't say "wee" to be dismissive: the game itself is epic, just that it was a relatively niche title. I was really taken with the beautiful art style and really enjoyed getting to play through a fictional anime interpretation of world war I/II. I found the char...
