Re: 331: Daytona USA
I personally don't have much experience with this particular game, but as a child of the 90s, I remember it as a mainstay of noisy arcades, where one could gamble tens of dollars on meaningless tickets. You were never going to have enough tickets for that N64, Isopod. Why did you even try? Anyway - ...

Re: 330: Resident Evil Zero (Biohazard 0)
Resident Evil 0 is a game I'm very lukewarm on. It retains most of the core mechanics of the 2002 REmake, which is a great thing, but despite having beaten it three times now, I always come off feeling a little disappointed. The graphics are outstanding, it plays well, the locales are interesting......

Re: Our next podcast recording (23.6.18) - 325: Shovel Knight
Shovel Knight is one of the best NES games ever made, but therein lies the catch. I want to love Shovel Knight - I see the clear love and care they've put into crafting this game, and within the constraints of the type of game they were aiming to make it looks great. Only one issue. I simply do not ...

Re: 329: Secret of Mana (Seiken Densetsu 2)
I should note that while I mentioned the remake in my post, the lion's share of the commentary was actually on the SNES original. The glaring issues of the SNES original were not fixed for a remake, which I am expressing dismay with.

Re: Our next-but-one podcast recording (9.6.18) - 323: Final Fantasy IV
Final Fantasy IV is such an interesting game for me... It sits right on the boundary of "love it" and "hate it". But I wouldn't say it's average, either. It has a lot of REALLY great ideas, but doesn't really know what to do with them. It's got a huge cast of characters that rota...

Re: 336: Resident Evil 4 (Biohazard 4)
Resident Evil 4 is far from my favourite Resident Evil game, but it's memorable to me for one key reason: It sold me on the promise of the Nintendo Wii. I had owned RE4 on Gamecube. I wasn't crazy about it. I found the aiming reticule was too slow, and it was sort of a frustrating slog - it always f...

Re: 332: Final Fantasy V
In my mind, Final Fantasy V is the most underplayed and underrated in the entire series. It's really a hidden gem as far as Final Fantasy titles go. It's now had four releases in the west, but sadly, only the Gameboy Advance version presents the game correctly. I've personally played FF5 on PS1 and ...

Re: 329: Secret of Mana (Seiken Densetsu 2)
This is a game I've always wanted to love, as the graphics and setting are positively charming... But unfortunately, I really feel that this game has not stood the test of time in any way, and quite bafflingly, the HD remake actually keeps most of the bad design choices that keep me from playing Sec...

Re: Special No.1: Mega Drive
My first video game console was the Sega Genesis. Being of limited financial means and living in northern Ontario, my parents bought my brother and I a used Model 2 Genesis for Christmas 1995 - it came with copies of Thunder Force II and Sonic the Hedgehog. Thunder Force II turned out to be far too ...
