Re: Final Fantasy VII Remake

I'm glad you're enjoying it but those are very valid criticisms and I completely agree even as a series veteran. I found the tonal shifts much harder to swallow when presented at this level of fidelity Vs the more abstract visual style of the original. The voice actors do the best they can but I was...

Re: Comfort Gaming

For me pretty everything I play is comfort gaming in some form. I tend not to get stressed out even with very challenging titles and find slow, incremental progress through a difficult game quite relaxing in itself. The only thing I'll always avoid when tired or stressed is anything multiplayer, whi...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Me too! There was never a world in which I wouldn't at least try a Streets of rage 4, but I really did find the graphical style off-putting pre release. They're brilliant games to play but so much of my love for the original games is tied up in their audio/visual presentation . This game doesn't qui...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Finally got round to playing Streets of rage 4 . Mrs Bailey and I are both fans of the series so wanted to wait until we had a chance to co op our first run. The hype is real, this game is absolutely amazing. Not much really to add to the discourse that hasn't already been said here but as someone w...

Wow, that's incredibly impressive. Nice work! I love this game but have never managed a 1CC on normal difficulty. Also, are you aware that Michiel is streaming it at the moment on Fridays from the C&R twitch channel?

Thanks Leon. I definitely was planning on playing it at some point, but you're right, might be exactly what I'm looking for.

Bailey Boy, just tell Mrs. Bailey you’ll be saving a ton of money by going the Retropad32 route. :D
Will you tell her for me?

Re: Retro gaming

I've gone back and cleared it on hard since and yeah, I've had a great time with it. The roll is a brilliant addition, if a bit too forgiving. It's so effective it kinda makes me wish the action was a little more frantic to compensate! Small criticism though.

Re: Ghost of Tsushima

Haha! I think it's the sheer number of these games that they pump out and the extent to which their formula has been emulated. If I hadn't seen the Ragnarok trailer already and somebody showed me the gameplay footage of Ghost and told me it was the new Assassin's Creed, I wouldn't have batted an eye...

Re: Ghost of Tsushima

Whilst there is nothing wrong with wanting simple entertainment, from games or any other media, there's also no harm in wishing these AAA games could offer more complexity for those that might want it. Complexity doesn't have to come at the expense of accessibility. Forgive me going on a tangent her...

Re: Ghost of Tsushima

I sympathize with both viewpoints here. Speaking for myself, I've come to terms with the fact that this style of modern AAA games design is, in general, not to my taste. It doesn't stop me from being disappointed when a game I like the look of turns out to be another "one of those" but the...

Definitely big screen games. I remember trying to play bayo on the Wii U gamepad. Didn't go well :(

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I love the intro/cutscenes in this game! There's something about that early 90's CD game anime aesthetic seen here and other games like Popful Mail and the 90s Ys titles that's so appealing to me.

Re: Retro gaming

I've played all of the above, including Baiten Kaitos and I'm with you all the way. Agreed on Metroid Prime too, the Wii port is a straight upgrade for me and possibly my favourite implementation of motion controls period. The GameCube pad was certainly not as versatile as it's modern equivalents bu...

Re: Retro gaming

Oh yeah Shock Troopers is fantastic fun, arguably moreso than Metal Slug even. The sequel really is nowhere near as good though, they changed quite a lot, its not really all that similar a game. Ah, shame. That mirrors what I've heard elsewhere but I'll go in with an open mind. The original isn't q...

Re: Retro gaming

Yeah mate, same. They are ridiculously robust, I've never had a single one break down in all my years of use. My pet theory as to why the sticks in particular are so solid without any drifting issues has to do with the lack of push-in stick buttons. I also adore most of its signature design choices...
