Re: Videogame Deals

Middle Earth: Shadows of Mordor is currently £4.80 on the Xbox One Store for the GOTY edition, and is also free to play this weekend. Bizarrely it doesn't seem to be in any of the deals pages.

Also seconding Dishonored 2 for £`10 in ASDA! Great shout!

Re: Game suggestions for the podcast

Just to toss an idea into the ring, last month I played through The Turing Test, a nice wee FPS style puzzle game from the makers of Pneuma: Breath of Life. Both of which would be good games for the podcast, possibly as a 2 for 1 developer focused issue. I also tried out Never Alone, a 2.5D platform...

Re: Our next-but-one podcast recording (8.7.17): Life Is Strange

One aspect of this game that on reflection does concern me a little, is the dubious morality at play. The game not only tries to convince the player that it's preferable to allow an entire town to die rather than one teenage girl (who may well die anyway) and that it's better kill a man in the prime...

Re: Our next-but-one podcast recording (8.7.17): Life Is Strange

I've just marathoned Life is Strange this week, despite having played the demo on release and picking it up in a sale last year. Somehow the combination of Telltale-esque gameplay, and Dawson's Creek style teenage angst, never quite appealed to me. So it's with some surprise that I found the overall...

Re: Shameless Self Promotion

Hi folks, I've been a long time listener and occasional contributor here, and I thought I'd just drop a link to the movie review podcast that me and a mate began recording last year. We've been looking at various films that have come out and try to have a somewhat spoilerific but fun "Square Go...

Re: Our next podcast recording (28.3.17): Gone Home

Gone Home, was a title I was always going to play. As a long time advocate of the importance and potential of games such as Dear Esther and The Stanley Parable, I found that Gone Home was a natural extension of that "walking simulator" game style, I also found it to be a game both evocativ...

Re: Our next-but-one podcast recording (22.10.16) - Amnesia: The Dark Descent

Amnesia: The Dark Descent first drew me in with its aesthetic, as a long time lover of the old Looking Glass Thief games, I have a deep love of creeping round spooky medieval corridors, and avoiding the denizens therein. So when I heard that Frictional Games, who had made the interesting Penumbra se...

Re: Our next podcast recording (17.9.16) - D4: Dark Dreams Don't Die

Oh, where to begin? Being of the persuasion that came down on the negative side in relation to Deadly Premonition, I have no undue affection for the work of Swery. I found DP a slow, plodding mess with shonky controls, ugly dialogue and the sense that whoever made it had a childlike fascination with...

Re: The Wolf Among Us

Despite having read a couple of Fables graphic novels and thoroughly enjoying the premise and characters, it took me till the free release on Xbox Live Gold, and with the impending Cane and Rinse podcasts coming up to actually play it. To my surprise, it turned out to be the best example of a Tellta...

Re: Our next podcast recording - Silent Hill: Downpour

Like many people, who having first become enamoured with the team silent games, and then stuck through the successive sequels in the hope of a return to glory, I had my reservations about Downpour. Unlike many of those people I suspect, I actually found my day one purchase a strangely compelling ret...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Finished off Assassin's Creed: Liberation HD yesterday. Have to say, it's a pretty decent game, very obviously a handheld port (but a nicely updated one) On the whole I think the plot & style was actually a great take on the series, and an interestingly done story that touches on a lot of diffic...

Re: Our next podcast recording: Silent Hill: Shattered Memor

I played Silent Hill: Shattered Memories on the PSP, which I'm told is the lesser of the experiences, with the Wii's version being superior in both immersion and graphical fidelity. However, I still found it a captivating gaming experience overall. It's one of the most curious entries in the series,...

Re: Our next Silent Hill podcast recording: Homecoming

I'd like to start this comment with two statements 1: Silent Hill Homecoming is on several views the worst Silent Hill game in the series. 2: Silent Hill Homecoming is nowhere near as bad a videogame as people make out. I came to Homecoming a little late, in fact, having to squeeze it in a few month...

Re: Our next podcast recording: Silent Hill: Origins

Silent Hill Origins is something of an oddity. Despite being released on both PS2 and PSP, it's length and scope mark it out with all the traits familiar to Portable entries into major game series. It was also for me the first 'new' release after I discovered series, so one I approached with no smal...

Re: Our next Silent Hill recording: Silent Hill 4: The Room

Having played though the earlier entries in the series, it was inevitable that I'd get round to playing Silent Hill 4 entry eventually, althought that ended up being the xbox edition, played on my 360 around 2008, with all the broken facial animations and texture glitches that entailed. Despite that...

Re: Our next podcast recording: Silent Hill 2

Like many people, I lost my Silent Hill virginity to Silent Hill 2, rather than the original game. I was introduced to it one dark and spooking evening in 2005 by my Playstation 2 owning girlfriend of the time. I was uttely captivated by the dismal foggy world presented to me, and the strange shambl...

Re: This week's podcast: Papo & Yo

Papo & Yo is for me, one of the most divisive experiences I've had with a recent game. While parts of it enthralled me, there were moments where the game seemed so facile that I wanted to facepalm. I enjoyed the experience, but the potential here ended up being squandered by it trying too hard t...

Re: This weeks podcast: Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons

I'd heard the lauding of Brothers from various games writing outlets, and wasn't surprised to find that a game which apparently moved the player as well as providing a unique control method, was getting a lot of love. I missed it at release and ended up playing it in a single sitting at a mate's hou...
