Re: Our Patreon
Hi everyone. I use Castbox and thought it odd yesterday when I didn't see the April Monthly appear but brushed it off as me only imagining someone had said it was now available. The feed has just updated itself and is now showing not only the April Monthly episode as releasing yesterday but also Do...

Re: Games Completed 2020
Just finished lair of the clockwork God. Can't recommend enough. Mash up of point and click adventure with indie darling platformer. It's so inventive all the way through and the silly jokes are inspired and hilarious. What's amazing is how much of the humour is not dialogue but jokes told as mechan...

Re: February 2020 podcast
I was listening last night and heard my full name read out and it kind of shocked me. I'm going to have to go change it on Patreon. Good episode so far though, I've still got half an hour or so left to go. My name was also read out. I guess people could link my forum name with irl name. But the rea...

Lair of the Clockwork God An indirect sequel to two indie point a clicks from a year ago. The two leads are the main characters, except Dan (who made The Swindle) now want to make 'emotional darling indie platforms'. So gameplay is switching between the platforming and point and click. I'm a little...

Re: The videogame music thread (also Sound of Play submissions)
Hey peeps. I want some Sound of Play advice. I bounced off the podcast years ago as I'm really not into chip tunes (before my time/not my style). Which issue might be a good starting point for me to jump back into? Happy with either a classical bent or something modern, just not the indie bleepy blo...

Re: 421: Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
Cutting out the chaff. Lost Legacy doesn't change the Uncharted formula, but it's smaller size removes filler. We keep the excellent locations, exciting set pieces and engaging writing; but there is less enduring wave upon wave of bullet sponge enemies, aided by stealth as a genuine option. I felt ...

Glad to hear the patreon is doing well! I have neither the desire, nor consistent free time for an online loot shooter. But hearing Jay be so enthusiastic for a game is wonderful, even if it's not for me

Re: 417: Marvel's Spider-Man
Traversal around the city feels very good in the main, although not necessarily for close quarters precision movement, chasing pidgeons is not fun. The combat is maybe not unique, but I like that almost all of the powers/abilities feel useful; I didn't end up spamming 1 or 2 things as per some games...

Re: The Cane and Rinse podcast Volume 9 (2020)
Interesting response Jay. Seems like a decent approach. I always think that >=3 years is a good window, as it allows reflecting on a game and its peers in a more detected way. Also, I think there is a large proportion of gamers who play games late and they have different opinions to those in the zei...

Got this as a 8 year old, thinking it was suitable. It might be a great game, but it was too hard and I experienced very little of it.

Re: 404: Assassin's Creed Origins
Ok Jay I'll keep it short! Visiting the sights of ancient Egypt is thrilling and the world building is great. But AC is best for me in cities, exploring buildings, running across rooftops, stalking targets and infiltrating bases. I don't feel the combat and traversal lend themselves to traipsing thr...

Re: 402: God of War (2018) *recording the week ending 19th Jan.*
The word that comes to mind for God of War is ‘ chunky’ . Everything in this game has weight and heft. You feel the inertia of Kratos’ mass before he moves, sense the impact of his many, many axe throws. When they finally appear even the Blades of Chaos seem to carve the flesh of enemies, rather th...

Re: 402: God of War (2018) *recording the week ending 19th Jan.*
The Limited open world works for me! I was surprised to love this. The game is not massive open world, but hub and spoke or connected linear paths. I like this limitation, the open world feels very curated; enabling the design of well built and thrilling levels with paced combat, puzzling and story....

Re: Well Twitter has been interesting today hasn't it.
I’ve been listening to the pod for years because of the balance you bring to the games you review, and the lack of ‘dude-bro’ culture that turns me off so many other gaming sites. Agreed, It's a bit of a generalisation (and things have changed a lot in recent years) but videogame media has tended t...
