Re: Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition
Point taken, but I've expanded at length about what I've enjoyed about it. It's a deliberately reductive comment as acknowledgement that IT IS a very repetitive game, and it succeeds exceptionally in spite of that. It bothers me when people ignore context and misrepresent what I've said. Winky smiley.

Re: Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition
It's a hell of a lot of fun but in quite a niche way. I said elsewhere - and it feels increasingly true - that it kind of reminds me of a bullet hell shmup. There's nearly constant action with small peaks and troughs from one moment to the next. It also makes me think about minimal techno where once...

Re: Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition
I'm now badly into Adventure Mode but I realise I need to finish Legend Mode to get all the items. Then Adventure Mode is probably going to be the next ten years of my life.

Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition
The game I didn't realise I wanted. I've almost no experience with the musou genre so I'm glad I waited for this, perhaps the ideal take on the formula for me due to affection for much of the music, roster and world. I expected something incredibly repetitive and simplistic and, to be honest, it kin...

Re: Sound of Play 140: The shoot 'em up special
Listening to this one again. First time round I had it on in the background while playing some Minecraft or something so was just picking out the music really but I'm really enjoying the discussion, too. Thanks, chaps. Such a brilliant genre for music. A couple of my favourites if there's ever a sec...

Re: What's Out This Week?
Never played a musou game before. A mild Zelda skinjob and hopefully a few classic tunes will bring me in day one. Should keep me very distracted throughout the utter shit show of a royal wedding 'party'.

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
The worst mechanic in gaming for me is the shovel bounce from Shovel Knight. It feels absolutely foul and is so hard to pull off consistently. It should be mapped to a button rather than holding down on the d-pad in mid-air. When I get round to writing my Shovel Knight feedback, 99% will be about h...

Me three. I've barely played it since the last one because it was all a bit downhill from there. Playing with randons doesn't compete.

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
I suppose that's a problem with the naming more than anything else, plus the Switch screen being smaller than an iPad, and less responsive. I don't think the size of it with Joycons attached lends it to touch controls at all. Certainly, I play Voez and Deemo with the controllers removed, purely like...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
I've got it. Pretty decent, slightly sluggish menus and despite the name you're better off using the controller rather than touch screen. Seems as fully featured as I'd want, slightly trimmed down from the PC version, I understand. I played a lot the first few days then dropped it but that's my MO.

Re: All things God of War
I know this is cherry picking an all-timer but having only properly played Tropical Freeze with the Switch release, I'd say with complete confidence that it has on average one 'future classic' theme per world. It's an astonishing piece of work, especially as the opening levels are pretty generic and...

Re: Whatcha Been Listening To?
I just bought my first Justice album. They've come up on my Pandora quite a bit so I decided to give them an official go. I grabbed Woman, which I was very surprised to discover came out in 2016! The album sounds as 90s as anything that came from that decade! Their debut, Cross, is leagues ahead of...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread
I would bet my left nut that Smash is coming with the online service in September. What's your guessing as to what sort of Smash will we be getting? A deluxe edition of the last one, or a full new Smash title? I think if it's a full new one we probably won't see it this year. Well, I only have so m...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread
I would bet my left nut that Smash is coming with the online service in September. I reckon Yoshi will be this year, too, plus one big big name. I don't think it'll be Prime 4, I think it's going to be Christmas Pokemon. They need something colossal along with Smash to hit that 20m sales target whic...
