Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread
That's brutal. I have a great fear of the same thing (got about 5-600 eShop games). Can you recover the old codes by contacting Google? It seems like such a shit system. It'll get me one day I'm sure but I'll hopefully be too decrepit to care by then.

Re: Dark Souls I, II and III
A lot of people say how amazing the DLC is, and I've probably said the same myself, but it's very much like the main game, I reckon. Some brilliant stuff and a fair bit of crap. The gank squad boss is a prime example. That Blue Smelter is also awful, just Smelter but with a terrible run up and loads...

Re: Shameless Self Promotion
With online dating, try to meet up early because the breeze can change pretty quickly. If she's interested enough to message you, she's likely interested enough to meet for a drink and see if there's a connection. Online persona and reality are likely quite different, even for a very straightforward...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
Not sure how after bouncing off a dozen times but Death Stranding has finally clicked with me. I started again with the Director's Cut, just got back to episode 3 (which took me fifteen hours of not really paying attention previously) and I'm completely gripped. I used to find the BT sections incred...

Re: Videogame News
I suppose with all due respect to the success ConcernedApe enjoyed with SV, there's not a lot of originality there. It's very refined and there's a lot of depth to the execution, but it occupies a narrow existing genre. You'd hope that with a few quid in the bank these days he would have felt a bit ...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
Real talk, if you can beat Cleric Beast, BSB, Amelia, Rom (which I was stuck on for days) and Shadows, you can take the whole game. Great work and cool to see you enjoying a FROM game right in at the deep end. I absolutely love them but bounced off Demon's having given it my best and it took til DS2...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
I can't say that the game is "essential" though, because with a lack of difficulty options, I would never ever suggest this game to casual gamer.. Apologies for the lack of clarity, I just mean essential for me. I don't give much thought about whether it might appeal to anyone else. I can...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread
I don't really play anything online these days but I'll probably get a year of that just to pootle around in Ocarina or whatever. I suspect I'll get into Splatoon 3 when it comes.

Re: Games Completed 2021
The timing on the EMMI counters is deliberately difficult and far more of a roll of the dice than timing. The game itself tells you this.
It's not input lag.

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
I essentially have to hit the button before the flash to counter and even then it feels like a crapshoot. The game itself says this is exactly what it is. Different EMMI have different attack timings, as well. If you could see the flash and consistently parry, there would be no tension. It's litera...

Cheers for the reply. I haven't yet but it's in a Herzog BFI box that I picked up earlier in the year. Will definitely get to it soon. Very interested in his take on it.Tolkientaters wrote: ↑October 5th, 2021, 6:05 amHave you checked out Warner Herzog's 1989 remake of Nosferatu, it's also great.

Re: Ten years of Cane and Rinse!
I don't play games very much these days, but I listen to the new issue every week and still really enjoy it. It's a very very comforting, singular thing that I try to appreciate while it's still here, like Test Match Special, and I mean that as the biggest compliment. I still miss the Sunday evening...

Re: Dark Souls I, II and III
Hex build is probably the most powerful in DS2 apart from Dex build with 2-handed standard rapier (seriously), so give it a go. Dark Orb can carry you through the whole game and almost everything is weak to Hex. You're very nicely set, with a decent strength weapon backup.

Re: Dark Souls I, II and III
@Simonsloth Definitely do the DLC before going into NG+ because it's endgame stuff, and gets really really hard in NG+. You also can't just jump into it from the start, so you'd have to go through a lot of NG+ to access the areas. There's a lot of great stuff, some weird stuff and some bullshit, li...

Re: Whatcha Been Watching?
Been on a little 'silent movie season' at home recently, partly because my wife and I have had Covid and she's been feeling a bit wrecked. Either way, I've watched and really loved some of the classics, Vampyr and The Passion of the Joan of Arc by Carl Th. Dreyer, and Nosferatu and Faust by F.W. Mur...

I've been 'lucky' to have done quite a lot of fly-fishing on the Tweed and there is something very meditative and intensely focused about it that becomes very addictive. The technique of casting and simply reading the river is an endlessly deep pool of knowledge, practice and experience. I could act...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
I watched James Farley's Dark Souls 2 stream on YT and it gave me a taste for getting back to Drangleic. I've already thoroughly rinsed it on a dozen builds, but I decided to try something different. I'm running an easy mode Rapier build with some sequence breaking to get relevant rings and stuff. I...
