Re: Gone Home

I had a similar experience to Luke in that I had heard a lot of praise for Gone Home, but didn't really know what it was about, and had either gotten it in a steam sale or bundle, where it sat for a while before finally playing. Gone Home is an excellent example of storytelling in video games. Thoug...

Re: Book Recommendations

Alex, you should look into John Dies at the End. Pretty quick comedy/horror book. I prefer the 2nd book, and they stand alone, so you wouldn't have to read the first, but it's still excellent.

Re: Sound of Play: 81

That opening track made me want to hug somebody. Unfortunately I was alone at home making a microwave burrito at 1 in the morning. I'll definitely be picking up the Planet Coaster soundtrack when I have the available funds. I don't think I have the same feel-good associations to many of the older tu...

Re: Game suggestions for the podcast

I'd like to gently place the Devolver-published visual novel Hatoful Boyfriend in the list, preferably next to a nice Traveller's Tales game, or a generic gritty crime drama with a cult following. In addition to this, I'll carelessly toss the holiday themed sequel to the aforementioned bird-dating s...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

Haven't been keeping up too much with all the announcements, but Odyssey looks really cool; I'm happy seeing some new ideas there, especially since the city bits were giving me Sonic Adventure 2 vibes. An expanded Mario Kart 8 is welcome and will keep me busy for a while seeing as how I still haven'...

Re: Our next podcast recording (7.1.17): Everybody's Gone to the Rapture

A few days ago I started up Everybody's Gone to the Rapture to do a 2nd play-through to refresh before the podcast. I got about five minutes in and had to stop. Why? I'm not quite sure yet. The game is virtually nothing but story. A brilliantly told story, with rich characters whom all feel like rea...

Re: Merry Christmas, C&R!

I know C&R does not like to quantify things - but fuck it, it's Christmas - this is the best forum I've ever been a part of in 15 years of the Internet and 35 years of gaming. This is the only forum that I've been a part of. Merry Christmas and thank you all, community and crew, for making my l...

Re: Star Wars

Rogue One may be my favorite Star Wars film. I just saw it, so it's a bit early to make any official declaration, but it's very close to Jedi for me, if not above it. I play a couple different Star Wars tabletop RPGs with my friends and brother, and the movie felt exactly like something we would do ...

Arts & Crafts

Thought I'd make a topic for people to share any craft type things they have made. I recently made a Mario ABC Book for class this semester.

I'll post some other things I've done when I get around to photographing and uploading them, but I'd love to see what others in the community have done!

Re: Sound of Play: 70

This was a fun special, I was hoping for the P4G intro song but fortunately have it on my iPod, so I listened to it right after the episode. Even though I only played through about half of P4G, I definitely felt nostalgic listening to a lot of the music from it. I just wish I could get past all the ...

Re: The Bittersweet Reality of Your Gaming Preferences

As for my own preferences: I sort of wish I could get into more RPGs, both action and Japanese. My problem with JRPGs is, as was debated earlier in this topic, the turned based combat. I really enjoy Paper Mario 1&2 because it adds in mini games to the combat that keep me involved in everything....

Re: The Bittersweet Reality of Your Gaming Preferences

There needs to be more Action RPGs either in the form of Diablo or Borderlands. I only briefly played them, but Torchlight 1 & 2 were pretty good Diablo-likes, if you have a PC for them. There weren't too many stats to deal with, though it could get more complex later on. Similarly, Dungeon Def...

Re: Game suggestions for the podcast

I'd like to toss Big Brain Academy for the DS onto the list, if it isn't already there. A fantastic little edutainment game that'd I love to hear analyzed some day. I know there is a Wii game as well, but I never played it and don't know how well it holds up or anything.

I almost never play games online, but have been getting into Geometry Wars 3 on the Vita lately. I wouldn't mind having some people to battle on those leaderboards, if anyone would like to add me:

Re: Licensed Games You're Shocked Haven't Been Made Yet

the hulk game is bad I'm not sure what Hulk game you played, but I really enjoyed Hulk: Ultimate Destruction. I was rather young, and only played it a bit at my cousin's house, but I thought it was an entertaining sandbox romp. I'm really looking forward to the PS4 Spider-Man game, and think an Iro...

Re: Licensed Games You're Shocked Haven't Been Made Yet

I'll keep mine simple: Harry Potter RPG/MMO I would enjoy an RPG in the HP universe, unrelated to the books' stories, at least directly. Personally I'm not a fan of MMOs, so that wouldn't be my cup of tea. Now would you want to play a student at Hogwarts? or be someone in the larger wizarding world...

Re: Licensed Games You're Shocked Haven't Been Made Yet

I would want a Rainbow 6 game that feels more like the book. The majority of the level would be setup to make sure the execution is perfect. Getting people in place, watching camera feeds, perhaps even negotiations and buying time. Then the actual breaching and capturing/executing of the bad guys wo...

Re: What games were you not allowed to play/do you not let your kids play?

as a middle school teacher I was amazed how many of my 12 year old students were playing GTA V right when it came out. I wish more parents would put some rules in place in terms of what kids can play. I think when/if I have kids, I'll probably have some rules for this. I played GTA and Call of Duty...

Re: Your Favorite Boss Fights!

I've got quite a few, all for different reasons: Sonic Adventure 2 LqvFZCXPHrU The final boss of SA2, much like the rest of the game, was clunky and a bit odd, but boy do I love. The music along with Super Sonic and Shadow working together make this fight one of my favorite moments in video games. B...
