Re: Games Completed 2022
Great work. While I (my mum) paid a lot of money (at the time) for this when I was a kid, I don't really remember playing it as much as the second. I'm curious in seeing as Blaze playthrough. Since the release of 4 she's become my go-to character for this series.

Re: Board/Card Games - The obligatory "analogue" gaming thread
My cat decided to get me this as a Christmas present (she is so thoughtful). I had this as a kid and stupidly got rid. When they announced the remake, I knew I had to have it. https://i.ibb.co/fGRbDnL/271524922-1810467622674928-1097277218265734321-n.png Arriving next week.... I cannot wait! I bough...

Re: 506: Super Metroid
Despite being a huge fan of Metroidvanias, I actually didn't play this one until a few years ago when I picked up a SNES Mini. When I was younger I remember seeing the cover of this game a lot, especially at the homes of family members, but it never appealed to me. I'll probably get a lot of grief a...

Re: Other podcast recommendations
For anyone who's a fan of short horror stories and long form storytelling, give Magnus Archives a go. It's basically the "man reads statement from 'real person' but it's really just a horror story" trope, but done at a level I've never heard before. The world building is incredible, and ev...

Re: Games Completed 2022
It pretty much "plays" the same way, but I forgot to add that while the clips in Her Story were about 2 minutes long, in Telling Lies they average at about 6 minutes, so in some cases you're watching 12 minutes of clips to get both sides of a story. That's exhausting. Oh, and the clips sta...

Re: 505: Hollow Knight
Hollow Knight is definitely a perfect example of a game reaching the levels of hype that preceded it. As a big fan of Metroidvanias, I was perhaps already inclined to enjoy this more than most people. But even the biggest skeptic of this genre can't ague against this game's brilliance. Firstly, the...

Re: Whatcha Been Watching?
Finished Succession Season One now. It lived up to the hype with an incredible final episode. Probably the best show I have seen since Better Call Saul. Looking forward to seeing the next two seasons. I keep hearing good things and people placing it alongside some of my favourite shows, so I defini...

Re: Whatcha Been Watching?
I saw that Archive 81 adaptation on Netflix. It was fine, but it felt like a plug in and play thing that plagues that service now, in that everything has to be about 8 episodes and the runtime seems to be needlessly padded out, which is pretty much a crime for horror. It actually would have made a g...

Re: Games Completed 2022
I finished Telling Lies , the follow up to Her Story a few weeks ago, and I can see some of the mixed reaction it got. I thought it's approach to storytelling was bold, but with all the characters it seemed unfocused and the hearing one side of the conversation thing made it really repetitive for a ...

Re: Whatcha Been Watching?
Watched all of White Lotus a while ago. Really good dark comedy set on a fancy hotel on Hawaii, lots of really good characters and very funny moments, but also has a few more sincere moments that work well too. Would recommend highly. Unfortunately it's come off Now TV as of a few weeks ago, so you...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
I tried that Twelve Minutes and I really couldn't be arsed getting past the first hour. I like the looping dynamic, but it started to get tedious. I guess it didn't help that I'm playing on my laptop as my desktop is hundreds of miles away from me at the moment, but it felt like something that didn'...

Re: Whatcha Been Watching?
I saw Dune the other day. I have previous experience with this series, not even the Lynch film. I thought it was well made and interesting, but the thing I would criticise it for is also the thing that I think makes it commendable: and that is how it doesn't bog you down with exposition or explanati...

Re: Games Completed 2021
Recently I finished BioShock Infinite, which was my first BioShock game and my first First Person Shooter. I played on the Switch because previous attempts to get into the game on PS4 fizzled out and when that happens with a game I like to switch to portable to prompt me to stick with it. I played ...

Re: Whatcha Been Watching?
Yeah, Bob Mortimer is just endlessly watchable/listenable to. Love that guy! I showed the kids some clips of old The Smell Of Reeves And Mortimer on YouTube and they were killing themselves laughing at the slapstick. I got his new biography from Audible this week with some offer credits, so I'm loo...

Re: Whatcha Been Watching?
I started watching Mortimer and Whitehouse Gone Fishing again from the start, because much as I hate the idea of fishing, the gentle all round pleasantness of the program is about all my brain can cope with at the moment. It really is a great TV show. It's not a show I seek out, but when it's on I'...

Re: Metroid Speedruns
Shaving a quarter of your time off in just over a week is amazing. There's still a few little things that can save time, but a lot of it is RNG. I'm not sure on what the best time is on this type of run without glitches, but I reckon you would push it.

Re: The Sony news and discussion thread
I was a bit underwhelmed, there was nothing really there that's making me think I really need to get a PS5. Almost every game looked like it was designed for teenage boys, it's like the PS3 era all over again. The only thing that looked unique was that cutesy platform game, and even that had to touc...

I finally got around to Enslaved: Odyssey to the West . I'm amazed by some of the very good reviews this game got. Not to say it's bad, it's just painfully average and incredibly shallow. And doesn't stop holding your hand. I also hate games that find a reason to kill you when you want to explore. ...

Re: Let's rank our top 5 Pixar films for no reason at all
Toy Story 4 is a good film, but it's definitely the weakest of the series. Even though I don't think it needed to exist, Key and Peele were the best thing about it by far.
