Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

The GOTY is very often on sale on PSN, almost every other sale. I'm sure I've seen it for twenty quid or so.

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I'd say console yourself to the fact that you will miss certain things, certain NPC quests and you'll waste some upgrade items. It's OK. Just soak up one of the most coherent gaming experiences ever made. Sometimes I think, oh, I wish I could play it again for the first time but it's not true. I sha...

Re: Save-scumming

When stealth goes wrong, and you can adapt like in MGSV, it's a fantastic release of tension, because when I say adapt you know I mean start spraying the shottie and punting grenades out of the underbarrel launcher. When you can't adapt, and you have to just replay the section...snappy snappy disc d...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

I appreciate where you're coming from with that. If it turns out to be anything like as comparable, I'll be delighted. On the other hand, I want the NX to be a step up. Bit of cognitive dissonance, hmm.

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

Having recently bought a Wii U, I wonder what the specs will be for the NX. Is BOTW going to be a bit average on the Wii U? I know nobody can answer that but I really hope I can eke one more game out of it...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I seem to remember that you don't have to do all the puzzles in that area, so you could power through in half an hour, depending on how quickly you do the key puzzles. I spent a good hour there before reaching the goal you mentioned.

Re: The Monster Hunter thread

I probably put forty or fifty hours in, my first MH game. I was really enjoying it and thought I'd switch to some MP, but it seemed that I had to repeat all the same missions which is a strange choice. If there's a point to that, I couldn't figure it out. I know I can dip back into the SP any time, ...

Re: Videogame News

I heard it's an alternate dimension spin off to Ground Zeroes, bizarrely enough. So, yeah, as you suspected, pretty flimsy!

Re: Videogame News

Without being too cynical, it's because it's made people give it a heck of a lot more attention than it would otherwise generate! I'm happy to give Konami the benefit of the doubt with the actual game. They must have a lot of great staff who've performed many of the marvels in Kojima's imagination b...

Re: No Man's Sky

After sixty hours, I couldn't agree more. I can't complain because it's been a unique experience, and one which I really enjoyed for much of that time, and found very compelling even when it wasn't fun but I certainly hit a wall, or at least a plateau. Without being too fickle, I also found that 'cu...

Re: Game suggestions for the podcast

:ugeek: I just found this podcast a few weeks ago thanks to Vice. I love it. And I imagine it has probably been mentioned at least once in the previous 51 pages in this thread, but I would love to hear you guys take on the Monster Hunter series. I am really enjoying Generations right now. Never met ...

Re: No Man's Sky

Hehe that's awesome. I've finally started seeing some big creatures, too, which I'm happy about. At least I was until I saw this wibble its way over the horizon:

I got the fear.

Re: No Man's Sky

An interesting find about system diversity, and the correlation with system name and colour: If you go into free roam on the galaxy map, you'll notice that the majority of stars are yellow and start with F or G (this seems to vary per player). These are your bog standard systems, with some variety a...

Re: No Man's Sky

I don't think this is much of a spoiler but if you'd rather know nothing at all... No, the language stuff isn't related, though I think that would have been really cool. Talk about having to piece things together! I also think that the lore stuff is universal across everyone's game. Sean has talked ...

Re: No Man's Sky

Not on PS4, no. I heard there will be more options on PC. Bad luck, Chase. That's a bummer. My summative thought for the day is how much I am buzzing off the mood. It's got that 70s goofiness, the flora and fauna are fantastical rather than fearsome, and there's an Asimov type retro futurist charm, ...

Re: No Man's Sky

I actually meant to say earlier today that nothing has got me as intrigued with this game as much as that earlier post but now we've got a follow up I'll be reading it the second I wake. Thanks for posting, the isolation part really struck a compelling chord. I guess you got the gig as my personal ...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I ought to give Furi another go, it looks more appealing than most PS+ dross but alongside Hyper Light Drifter, I don't have enough reason to fire it up. I appreciate that it's a different approach but there are enough similarities which HLD does better.
